Reflectivity Improvement by Particle Neutralization in a Charged Particle-Type Electronic Display

  • Eight sample panels using an indium tin oxide(ITO)-coated glass substrate were fabricated, with barrier ribs formed of 55 ${\mu}m$ height and 10 ${\mu}m$ width. The upper and lower substrates were designed with the same panel condition, so a cell gap of 110 ${\mu}m$ was obtained. The charged particles in a cell consisted of $TiO_2$ (for white color) or carbon black (black color), negative or positive charge control agents, and a polymer. The average diameter of the two types of particles was commonly 10 ${\mu}m$, and their q/m value was -4.5 ${\mu}C/g$ and +4.5 ${\mu}C/g$, respectively. The electrically opposite particles mixed by an agitator were loaded into their cells by a simple particle-loading method. The discharging process proceeded at a humidity of 80% and a temperature of $30^{\circ}C$. Reflectivity was measured depending on discharging time, and a hysteresis curve by bias voltage obtained for comparison between the neutralized and non-neutralized panel, in which the superior optical property of the neutralized panel was ascertained.

  • A great deal of attention has been focused on the application of miniaturized piezoelectric transformers to the low power source for the microsystem. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb(Mn,W,Sb,Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$ ceramics have been investigated on different calcination(750$^{\circ}C$∼950$^{\circ}C$) and sintering(1100$^{\circ}C$∼1300$^{\circ}C$) temperatures. The perovskitic phase was formed by the solid phase reaction of the oxides. Anisotropic (k$\sub$t/k$\sub$p/) properties of electromechanical coupling coefficient and piezoelectric coefficient have been proven to be depending on processing temperatures. The value of electromechanical coupling factor of K$\sub$p/>0.51 and a mechanical quality factor of Q$\sub$m/>2000 were obtained. The piezoelectric transformer was prepared using this ceramics with the composition of Pb(Mn,W,Sb,Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$ We studied the influence of different processing temperature on the microstructure and piezoelectric properties of complex PZT-based ceramics. and the characteristic of piezoelectric transformer.

  • The application of the ultrasonic nozzle has been extended because it is possible atomization of liquid material. In this study, the driving characteristics of the ultrasonic nozzle on the driving circuit were investigated. And the characteristics of the ceramic oscillator were investigated for the temperature stability. The ceramic oscillator were made the Pb[(Sb$\sub$1/2/,Nb$\sub$1/2/)$\sub$0.035/-(Mn$\sub$1/3/Nb$\sub$2/3/)$\sub$0.065/- (Zr$\sub$x/Ti$\sub$l-x/)$\sub$0.9/]O$_3$with mole ratio of Zr/Ti. The ceramis oscillator were need the curie temperature of the over 300[$^{\circ}C$] for the temperature stability. When the Zr/Ti ratio was 49/51, it's curie temperature is 322[$^{\circ}C$] and the electromechanical coupling factor(k$\sub$p/) and mechanical quality factor(Q$\sub$m/) showed the values of 0.555, 1,214, respectively The resonance frequency of ceramic oscillator were from 40KHz to 45KHz. So that, the driving circuit were made a possibility that the frequency are variable. The driving current of ultrasonic nozzle showed the value of maximum 80[mA]. Also, The surface temperature of ceramic oscillator showed 80[$^{\circ}C$] at driving time 10[min]. We knew that the ultrasonic nozzle had stabile driving above 10[min.].

  • In this paper, we have studied with regard to the use of lasers for modifying the surface properties of silicon in order to improve it's wettability and adhesion characteristics. Using an Nd:YAG pulse laser, the wettability and adhesion characteristics of silicon surface have been developed by an Nd:YAG pulse laser. It was found that the laser treatment of silicon surfaces modified the surface energy. In the result of wetting experiments, by the sessile drop technique using the distilled water, wetting characteristic of silicon after the laser irradiation shows a decreased value of the contact angle. In case of the laser treated silicon surface, laser direct writing of copper lines has been achieved by pyrolytic decomposition of copper formate films$(Cu(HCOO)_2{\cdot}4H_2Q)$, using a focused $Ar^+$ laser beam$(\lambda=514.5nm)$ on the silicon substrates. The deposited patterns were measured by energy dispersive X-ray(EDX), Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and surface profiler($\alpha$-step) to examine the cross section of deposited copper lines and linewidth.

In this study, the characteristics of the ultrasonic nozzle and ceramic oscillator were investigated. The oscillator for the ultrasonic nozzle were made piezoelectric ceramic of $Pb[(Sb_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})_{0.035}-(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.065}-(Zr_{0.49}Ti_{0.51})_{0.90}]O_3$. The electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$ and mechanical quality factor$(Q_m)$ showed the values of 0.555, 1,214 respectively when the Zr/Ti ratio was 49/51. Moreover, this oscillator will have the temperature stability because it's curie temperature is $322[^{\circ}C]$. The driving current of ultrasonic nozzle showed the value of 80[mA] when the driving time was 10[min.]. Also, The surface temperature of ceramic oscillator showed $80[^{\circ}C]$ at driving time 10[min.] We knew that the ultrasonic nozzle had stabile driving above 10[min.].

Effects of Fluoride Additions on Sintering and Microwave Dielectric Properties of $ZnWO_4$ (Fluoride 첨가가 $ZnWO_4$ 소결 및 고주파 유전특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, a new LTCC material using $ZnWO_4$-LiF system was attempted with respect to use as a capacitor layer in Front-End Module. Pure $ZnWO_4$ must be sintered above $1050^{\circ}C$ in order to obtain up to 98% of full density. It's measured dielectric constant, quality factor, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 15.5, 74380GHz, and $-70ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively. LiF addition resulted in an liquid phase formation at $810^{\circ}C$ due to interaction between $ZnWO_4$ and LiF. Therefore $ZnWO_4$ with 0.5~1.5wt% LiF could be densified at $850^{\circ}C$. Addition of LiF slightly lowered the dielectric constant from 15.5 to 14.2~15. In the given LiF addition range, the sintering shrinkage increased with increasing LiF content. $Q{\times}fo$ value, however, decreased with increasing LiF content(or increasing densification). This is originated from the interaction between the liquid phase and $ZnWO_4$ and inhomogeneity of grain morphology.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramics for ultrasonic vibrator application, PNW-PMN-PZT system ceramics were manufactured according to the amount of CaCO$_3$ addition, and their piezoelectric, dielectric and microstructural characteristics were investigated. The ceramic specimens could be sintered at sintering temperature below 1000 $^{\circ}C$ due to the effect of Li$_2$CO$_3$-CaCO$_3$ liquid phase produced by the reaction of Li$_2$CO$_3$ and CaCO$_3$. At 0.2 wt% Li$_2$CO$_3$ and 0.25 wt% CaCO$_3$ added specimen sintered at 920 $^{\circ}C$, the density, electromechanical coupling factor(k$_{p}$), mechanical quality factor(Q$_{m}$) and dielectric constant showed the optimal value of 7.78 g/㎤, 0.49, 1396, and 1300, respectively, for ultrasonic vibrator application.ion.

  • To make new filler for conducting rubber, the sample of perovskite-related ferrite system $Dy_{2-x}Sr_{1+x}Fe_2O_{7-y}$ (x=0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0) were synthesized at 1473K in air. $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spetrum of x=0.0 sample shows typical six line pattern with $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ parameters, $I.S=3.6{\times}10^{-1}mm/sec,\;E_Q=-7.0{\times}10^{-2}mm/sec,\;H_{int}=5.19{\times}10^2\;Koe$. In case of x=2.0, the spectrum is composed of single line exhibiting coexistance of $Fe^{3+}(I.S.=3.7{\times}10^{-1}mm/sec)$ ions and $Fe^{4+}(I.S.=-1.9{\times}10^{-1}mm/sec)$ ions. With increase in x value electrical conductivity at constant temperature sharply increased and the activation energies decreased from $3.8{\times}10^{-1}\;to\;1.9{\times}10^{-1}\;eV$.

  • This paper describes the novel control techniques design of VSC(Voltage Sag Corrector) for the purpose of power line quality enhancement. A fast detecting technique of voltage sag is implemented through the detection of instantaneous value on synchronous rotating dq-reference frame. The first order digital filter is added in the detection algorithm to protect the insensitive characteristics against the noise. The relationship between the total detection time and cut-off frequency of the filter is described. The size of the capacitor bank used as the energy storage element is designed from the point of view of input/output energy with circuit analysis. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is proven through the simulated results.

  • The low temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of ceramic/glass composites which were composed of ceramics in the $Bi_2(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_2O_7$ and zinc borosilicate glass/bismuth-zinc borosilicate glass were investigated with a view to applying the microwave dielectrics to low temperature co-fired ceramics. The $Bi_2(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_2O_7$ addition of 5 wt% ZBS and BZBS glass ensured a successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. In addition, pyrochlore phase was observed in the all composition. $Bi_2(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_2O_7$ with 5 wt% BZBS glasss demonstrated 70 as the dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$), 2,500 GHz as the Q$\times$f value, and -40 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ as TCF.
