  • Many studies have been done on the application of residual charge measurement in cable degradation diagnosis. In this paper, the behavior of residual charges measured with water-tree degraded XLPE sheets and cable are discussed. At charge injection process, the charge is injected by applying dc voltage as a conventional method, suddenly cut-off ac voltage or impulse voltage. Therefore the residual charge is influenced by the applying process. At charge release process, transient dc current flows when applying ac high voltage and also ac high voltage superimposed to dc low voltage. From the results, new diagnosis method is suggested.

  • High level of reliability in facility operation is specifically required these days. The goal of this study is to secure a methodology for reliability analysis of hydro-power plant so that an appropriate decision for operation and investment can be made. Fault tree analysis of water supply system within hydro-power plant has been performed in this study. We briefly examined the electric power generation facility and water supply system. We then developed fault tree for the water supply system based on failure modes and effects analysis. We conclude this study and provided future research areas.

  • The crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) is the most widely used insulating material for power cable. Due to its thermosetting characteristics, the XLPE can not be recycled, while the needs for the environmental friendly and recyclable insulator is rapidly increasing. In this paper, some important and basic electrical properties of non-crosslinked polyethylene such as conduction current characteristics, water the tree characteristics, AC breakdown test were experimentally investigated. It was shown that some of the tested samples had better performances from the application point of view for replacing current XLPE.

  • Property of insulation of electric machine is severely affected by process of electrical tree growing. Partial discharges(PD) have been used to determine degradation of insulations. In this paper, PD quantities detected and analyzed are PD magnitudes, repetition rates, phase angle distribution of PD pulses, and wavelet transformation. The wavelet transformation is an extended method of fourier transformation. The fourier transformation is a powerful tool for signal analysis, but it can't include informations for time. However the wavelet transformation analysis can include on the informations of time and frequencies at the same time. This paper discusses correlation between process of electrical tree growing and characteristics of PD in LDPE specimens.

  • The effects of amino silane coupling agent on the AC electrical treeing and breakdown behaviors in an epoxy/layered silicate (1 wt%) were examined in needle-plate electrode geometry. A layered silicate was exfoliated in an epoxy base resin by using our AC electric field apparatus. To measure the tree initiation and propagation and the breakdown rate, an alternating current (AC) of 10 kV (60 Hz) was applied to the specimen in needle-plate electrode arrangement with a $30^{\circ}C$ insulating oil bath. In the epoxy/amino silane system, the tree initiation time was 11.5 times higher and the breakdown time was 17.9 times higher than those of the neat epoxy resin. The tree initiation time in the epoxy/layered silicate (1 wt%) system with the amino silane was 2.0 times higher, and the breakdown time was 1.5 times higher than those of the epoxy/layered silicate (1 wt%) system.

  • It is shown that the ac breakdown strength, treeing phenomena, oxidation level, and crystallinity of unaged and aged distribution CV cables vary with XLPE insulations (characterizing anti-oxidation) and curing process. The maximum size of bow-tie tree in insulation influenced on the decrease of ac breakdown strength and the increase of oxidation level and crystallinity of XLPE according to aging time lead to increase the size and density of bow-tie trees.

  • The management of the electric power facilities became important in accordance with the industrial development and electric power facilities were influenced by weather. Even if the same kind of electric power facilities is estimated for extracting the time-varying failure rate, the failure rate could be different depending on external effect such as climate. This research will show the data mining modeling of the weather-related outage and influence of weather on the electric power facility with recent data.

  • The most crucial requirement of a power system is o supply quality electric energy to customers without interrution. This problem is directly related to reliability of power system. Reliability assessment of power system has been an important topic for the past several decades. This paper deals with reliability assessment of a 154kV power substation n KEPCO. In his paper, exponential distribution is used to calculate reliablity index. The failure rate data that are utilited for reliablity index based on the realistic system. Also, FTA(Fault Tree Analysis) is used to compute substation reliablity

  • In order to investigate the interfacial effects on the aging of power cables, we analyzed recently failed cables using characterization techniques. In this study, some cables showed a convolution which can cause the concentration of electric field and carbonized impurities at the surface of insulation. Also there is a relation between the degree of cross- linking and volume resistivity. From the hot oil test, the sites of water tree and void coincided with each other.
