The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity, the associated flow rule, and von-Mises yield criteria. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the center cracked plate under tensile loading. Those results are compared with the there cal solutions and the numerical solutions of ADINA software.
This paper presents a brief overview of the recently developed performance-control method of moment frame design subjected to monotonously increasing lateral loading. The final product of any elastic-plastic analysis is a nonlinear loaddisplacement diagram associated with a progressive failure mechanism, which may or may not be as desirable as expected. Analytically derived failure mechanisms may include such undesirable features as soft story failure, partial failure modes, overcollapse, etc. The problem is compounded if any kind of performance control, e.g., drift optimization, material savings or integrity assessment is also involved. However, there is no reason why the process can not be reversed by first selecting a desirable collapse mechanism, then working backwards to select members that would lead to the desired outcome. This article provides an overview of the newly developed Performance control methodology of design for lateral resisting frameworks with a view towards integrity control and prevention of premature failure due to propagation of plasticity and progressive P-delta effects.
The analysis of thermally induced stresses in engineering structures is a very important and necessary task with respect to design and modeling of pressurized containers, heat exchangers, aircrafts segments, etc. to prevent them from failure and improve working conditions. So, the purpose of this study is to investigate elasto-plastic thermal stresses and deformations in a thin annular plate embedded into rigid container. To this end, analytical research devoted to mathematically and physically rigorous stress/strain analysis is performed. In order to evaluate the effect of logarithmic thermal gradients, commonly applied to structures which incorporate thin plate geometries, different thermal parameters such as temperature mismatch and varying constraint temperature were introduced into the model of elastic perfectly-plastic annular plate obeying the von Mises yield criterion with its associated flow rule. The results obtained may be used in sensitive to temperature differences aircraft structures where the thermal effects on equipment must be kept in mind.

In the case of a crack propagation a portion of the work of inelastic deformation near the crack tip is dissipated as heat. In order to understand the thermal effect on fracture toughness, tensile tests were carried out using thermocouples to monitor the variation of temperature. The experimental results show that the temperature of specimen was increased $5.4^{\circ}C$ at static load condition. And the thermal effect is investigated connected with the steady-state stress in the vicinity of a crack propagation in the elastic-plastic C-T specimen theoretically. And fracture toughness, the energy to make crack surfaces, presented correctively. The fracture toughness with considering heat at the blunting of the crack tip is lower about 16.9% than that of ignoring heat. So, it is resonable to apply the fracture toughness with considering thermal energy and it would be good explanation for constraint effect depending on the configuration in the presence of excessive plasticity.
Springback comes from the release of external loads after forming. The control of phenomenon is especially important in the sheet metal forming since there are no other practical methods available to correct the dimensional inaccuracy from springback. Therefore the accurate prediction before the die machining has been a long goal in the field of sheet metal forming. The am of the present study is to enhance the prediction capability of finite element (FE) analysis for the springback phenomenon. For this purpose FE analysis for V-bending has been carried out with the commercial programs, LS-DYNA. The FE analysis results have been validated through the comparison of experimental. The experimental results measured directly by the strain gauge have given the confidence to FEA.
The study has been performed for the relation between die and product during forward extrusion by the experiment. Stains of the die have been given by the simple experiment using the strain gauge located at the outer surface of the die. The history of the deformation of the die and the product has been given by the experiment and Lame's formula. The inner pressure of the die causes the deformation of die that affects the accuracy of dimension as well as shape of the product. The product with accurate dimension and shape can be obtained by analysing elastic deformation of the die during the process. The deformation of the die during metal forming process has been usually predicted by the experience of industrial engineer or finite element analysis. But it is difficult to predict the dimension of the product at unloading and ejected states. In the present study, useful results for the deformation history of the die and the product were obtained through the experiment and Lame's formula in forward extrusion which can be applied to the die design for the product with accurate dimension.
The drawbead is used to control material flow into the die during the binder wrap process and the stamping process in the sheet metal forming process. Since the dimension of drawbead is relatively small in comparison with the typical dimensions, it is difficult to include drawbeads in finite element analysis of the sheet metal forming process. It is because the mesh system has to be fine enough to describe the drawbead and the computation time is drastically increased. In this paper, simulation of drawbead forming has been carried out to obtain the equivalent boundary conditions in the binder wrap process and the stamping process. In order to investigate the effect of various die geometries, parameter studies are performed with the variation of parameters such as the blank length, the drawbead depth, the drawbead radius, the inclination of die and the friction coefficient.
The equivalent boundary conditions have been applied to the front door panel forming process, in order to demonstrate its reliability and validity. The elongation in the bead forming process is applied to the binder wrap process as the equivalent displacement boundary condition and the restraining force in the drawing process is applied to stamping process as the equivalent force boundary condition. The result calculated with the equivalent boundary conditions shows closer coincidence with the experimental result than simulation with different boundary conditions. The numerical result fully demonstrates that drawbead forming simulation for calculation of equivalent boundary conditions is necessary and effective.
Recently it is attempted to manufacture gears by various cold forging methods to meet requirements of mass production and uniform qualities. Compared to machined gears cold forged ears reveal higher tooth strength and better surface roughness but they reveal lower geometrical accuracies. Therefore in the present study a series of experiments are performed to investigate relations between geometrical accuracies of dies and billet and those of the final product. The geometrical accuracies of forged gears are considered through functional gear-element tolerances by measuring pitch error profile error lead error radial error tooth thickness and rolling test. Results of the experiments can be summarized as follows: (1) involute spur gears of KS 5(or AGMA7) accuracies can be made,(2) concentricity of die set should be maintained within 0.01mm (3) clearance between the billet and die set should be less than 0.1mm (4) con-centricity and radial runout should be less than 0.08mm and 0.1mm respectively. However it is thought that FEM analysis of elastic/thermal deformations of dies and the billet is necessary for a better understanding of the findings obtained through the present study.
