The dimensions of die and workpiece are changed continuously during loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. Finally, to predict precisely the dimension of forged part and get the die dimension for the net-shape components, the analysis of die and workpiece should be evaluated from the loading to ejecting. Therefore, the experimental and FEM analyses are performed to investigate the elastic characteristics at workpiece and die in the closed-die upsetting for ferrous material FE techniques are proposed to consider the unloading and ejecting stages and estimate more precisely the dimension of forged part and die. The dimensional changes fur the workpiece were evaluated quantatively during loading, unloading, and ejecting stages. The strains measured by the strain gages were compared with the estimated values by the FEM.
Elastic-plastic behavior of nuclear power plant elbow piping under seismic loads has been conducted in this study. Finite element analyses are performed using classical Bilinear kinematic hardening model (BKIN) and Multilinear kinematic hardening model (MKIN) as well as a nonlinear kinematic hardening model (Chaboche model). The influence of internal pressure and seismic loading on ratcheting strain of elbow pipe is studied by means of the three models. The results found that the predicted results of Chaboche model is maximum, closely followed by the predicted results of MKIN model, and the minimum is the predicted results of BKIN model. Moreover, comparisons of analysis results for each plasticity model against predicted results for a equivalent cyclic loading elbow component and for a simplified piping system seismic test are presented in the paper.
Hybrid girders can be constructed in different geometrical forms and from different materials. Selection of beam's effective constellation represents a complex process considering the variations of geometrical parameters, changes of built in material characteristics and their mutual relations, which has important effect on the behavior of the girder. This paper presents the theoretical and experimental research on behavior of the timber-steel hybrid girders' different geometrical constellation with external prestressing and in different conditions of timber moisture. These researches are based on linear elastic analysis, and further refine by using the plasticity and damage models.

This study measured the mechanical properties of an ash wood under various temperature and humidity conditions and a finite element model was developed to predict the behavior of the wood. A humidity-controlled chamber was developed and used for measuring the dimensional changes of woods under various humidity conditions. The thermal expansion coefficient and the elastic stiffness constants were measured by using a thermal chamber and the three-point bending test along the three principal axes of the wood. A constitutive model was proposed to describe the moisture content and temperature dependent behavior of wood. The proposed model was validated for the warping test of a wood plate. The warping of the plate was calculated using the finite element method. The calculated amount of warping was in consistence with the measurements.
The aim of this study is to fabricate an ultra-fine pure rhodium wire using multi-pass wire drawing process. To manufacture $30{\mu}m$ ultra-fine rhodium wire from the initial $50{\mu}m$ wire, a multi-pass wire drawing process was designed based on the uniform reduction ratio theory. The elastic-plastic finite element analysis was then conducted to validate the efficacy of the designed process. The drawing load, drawing stress, and the distribution of the effective strain were evaluated using the finite element analysis. Finally, the wire drawing experiment was performed to validate the designed wire drawing process. From the results of the experiment, the diameter of the final drawn wire was found to be $29.85{\mu}m$.

The strength of particle-reinforced metal matrix composites is, in general, known to be increased by the geometrically necessary dislocations punched around a particle that form during cooling after consolidation because of coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) mismatch between the particle and the matrix. An additional strength increase may also be observed, since another type of geometrically necessary dislocation can be formed during extensive deformation as a result of the strain gradient plasticity due to the elastic-plastic mismatch between the particle and the matrix. In this paper, the magnitudes of these two types of dislocations are calculated based on the dislocation plasticity. The dislocations are then converted to the respective strengths and allocated hierarchically to the matrix around the particle in the axisymmetric finite-element unit cell model. The proposed method is shown to be very effective by performing finite-element strength analysis of $SiC_p$/Al2124-T4 composites that included ductile failure in the matrix and particlematrix decohesion. The predicted results for different particle sizes and volume fractions show that the length scale effect of the particle size obviously affects the strength and failure behavior of the particle-reinforced metal matrix composites.

In general, by means of the electrodepositing technique, a copper foil sample was prepared with a high purity and a high density. But the mechanical properties of the electrodepositing copper foil was lower than it's the rolling copper foil. However, the production of copper foil with approximately 36 microns thick in rolling process was very difficult. This paper describes the outline of the high accuracy cold rolling in 6 high mill which was developed for the purpose of rolling very thin accurate gauge copper foil(36 micron thick), and give several rolling characteristic of 600 mm wide copper foil. a) Large strain can be accumulated pass by pass in industrial multi-pass rolling processing to overcome large critical strain for thickness accuracy through optimization of rolling schedule. b) Also, permissible tension for rolling 0.45 $\sim$ 0.036 mm thick copper strip stably in accordance with the each pass work had been established by FEM simulation results. c) During the plate rolling process, considerable values of the forces of material pressure on the tool occur. These pressures cause the elastic deformation of the roll, thus changing the shape of the deformation region. A numerical simulation of roll deflection during cold rolling is presented in the paper. d) The proposed pass schedule can roll very thin copper foil of 36 micron thickness to a tolerance of ${\pm}1$ microns. The validity of simulated results was verified into rolling experiments on the copper foil.
In this study, a numerical method for the material nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete shell structures including the time dependent effects due to creep and shrinkage is developed. Degenerate shell elements with the layered approach are used. The perfect or strain hardening plasticity model in compression and the linearly elastic model in tension until cracking for concrete are employed. The reinforcing bars are considered as a steel layer of equivalent thickness. Each :steel layer has an uniaxial behaviour resisting only the axial force in the bar direction. A bilinear idealization is adopted to model elasto-plastic stress-strain relationships. For the nonlinear anaysis, incremental load method combined with unbalanced load iterations for each load increment is used. To include time dependent effects of concrete, time domain is divided into several time steps which may have different length. Some numerical examples are presented to study the validity and applicability of the present method. The results are compared with experimental and numerical results obtained by other investigator.

In this study, the propagation behaviour and the closure phenomena of physically small surface cracks were investigated by the techinque of the Kikukawa-unloading elastic compliance method using a back face strain gage. The surface cracks initiated and propagated from notched specimens under constant amplitude bending load. The crack shape (aspect ratio) with approximately semi-circular at the early stage was changed to semi-elliptical as the cracks grew larger. The crack depth (a) could be expressed uniquenly by the crack length (c). The dependence of the crack propagation rate on the stress ratio R was strongly related in the lower ${\Delta}K$ range. The deceleration of the surface crack propagation rate was prominent in lower R during the crack length was small. When the propagation rate was rearranged with the effective stress intensity factor range ${\Delta}$K_{eff} the dependence of the crack propagation rate on the stress ratio R was found to be diminshed. These were caused by the crack closure phenomena that was most prominent at the lower propagation rate. The mechanism of crack closure phenomena was dominated by the plasticity-induced mechanism.

The present work reports the mismatch limit loads for a V-groove welded pipe for a circumferential crack using finite element (FE) analyses. To integrate the effect of groove angles on mismatch limit loads, one geometry-related slenderness parameter was modified by relevant geometric parameters including the groove angle, crack depth, and root opening based on plastic deformation patterns in the theory of plasticity. Circumferential through-wall cracks are located at the centre of the weldments with two different groove angles ($45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$). With regard to the loading conditions, axial (longitudinal) tension and bending are applied for all cases. For the parent and weld metal, elastic-perfectly plastic materials are considered to simulate and analyze under- and over-matching conditions in plasticity. The overall results from the proposed solutions are found to be similar to the FE results.
