  • The effect of various parameters on the propagation of surface waves in electro-magneto thermoelastic orthotropic granular non-homogeneous medium subjected to gravity and initial compression has been studied. All material coefficients are obeyed the same exponent-law dependence on the depth of the granular elastic half space. Some special cases investigated by earlier researchers have also been deduced. Dispersion curves are computed numerically and presented graphically.

  • Wood, laminates, reinforced concrete, and some special types of metals systems with controlled grain orientation are often orthotropic and at least rectilinearly anisotropic from point to point, if regarded as homogeneous media. Orthotropic bodies where a crack is not associated with a plane of elastic symmetry may be conveniently treated as a crack problem in a generally anisotropic body. At this work, approach for the determination of the stress intensity factors (SIF) of anisotropic body using crack tip singular elements is presented. Caculated values are in good agreement with the others.

  • In this paper an analytical study is carried out to improve the capacity of absorbing boundary using dashpot, one of the most widely used absorbing boundaries in FEM. Using harmonic plane wave equation, absorbing boundary condition is modified to maximize its capacity according to the incident angle. Validity of the modified absorbing boundary conditions is investigated by adopting the solution of Miller-Pursey which is the solution for the wave propagation in semi-infinite elastic media, and the absorption ratio is calculated according to various Poisson's ratios.

  • In this paper, the plane elasticity equations are used to investigate the in-plane normal (mode I) and shear (mode II) behavior of a crack perpendicular to and terminating at the interface in bonded media with a graded interfacial zone. The interfacial Bone is treated as a nonhomogeneous interlayer with the continuously varying elastic modulus between the two dissimilar, homogeneous semi-infinite constituents. For each of the individual loading modes, based on the Fourier integral transform technique, a singular integral equation with a Cauchy kernel is derived in a separate but parallel manner. In the numerical results, the values of corresponding modes of stress intensity factors are illustrated for various combinations of material and geometric parameters of the bonded media in conjunction with the effect of the material nonhomogeneity within the graded interfacial zone.

  • In this paper, a thermo-viscoelastic problem in an infinite isotropic medium in two dimensions in the presence of a point heat source is considered. The fundamental equations of the problems of generalized thermoelasticity including heat sources in a thermo-viscoelastic media have been derived in the form of a vector matrix differential equation in the Laplace-Fourier transform domain for a two dimensional problem. These equations have been solved by the eigenvalue approach. The results have been compared to those available in the existing literature. The graphs have been drawn for different cases.

  • A boundary element method which utilizes the fundamental solution in the half plane is developed to analyze the multi-layered elastic media. The objective of this study is to derive numerically the fundamental solutions and to apply those to the exterior multi-layered domain problems. To obtain numerical fundamental solutions of multi-layered structural system, the same number of solutions as that of layers in Fourier transform domain are employed. The numerical integration technique is used in order to inverse the Fourier transform solution to real domain. To verify the proposed boundary element method, two examples are treated: (1) a circular hole near the surface of a half plane; and (2) a circular cavity within one layer of four layered half plane.

  • Pressure-dependent structural and morphological changes of two amphibole minerals, tremolite and actinolite, were investigated up to 7.0 GPa using synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction underthree different pressure transmission media (PTM): water (W), $CO_2$ and silicone oil (SI). The elastic response of tremolite and actinolite are found to be dependent on the PTM used. When using water (W) as PTM, tremolite and actinolite show normal volume contractions with bulk moduli of 74(1) and 78(1) GPa, respectively. When using $CO_2$ as PTM, we observe the formation of calcite from tremolite above 3.8(1) GPa, whereas actinolite did not show any carbonation reaction. Under silicone oil PTM, we observe modulated volume contraction behaviors in both samples, compared to water and $CO_2$ PTM, with bulk moduli in the order of 90(1) and 94(4) GPa for tremolite and actinolite, respectively.

  • The generalized thermoelastic analysis problem of a two-dimension porous medium with and without energy dissipation are obtained in the context of Green-Naghdi's (GNIII) model. The exact solutions are presented to obtain the studying fields due to the pulse heat flux that decay exponentially in the surface of porous media. By using Laplace and Fourier transform with the eigenvalues scheme, the physical quantities are analytically presented. The surface is shocked by thermal (pulse heat flux problems) and applying the traction free on its outer surfaces (mechanical boundary) through transport (diffusion) process of temperature to observe the analytical complete expression of the main physical fields. The change in volume fraction field, the variations of the displacement components, temperature and the components of stress are graphically presented. Suitable discussion and conclusions are presented.

  • Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, which is, in the cosmological context, attributed to its simplest structure consisting of a proton and an electron. Hydrogen interacts with an electromagnetic wave in astrophysical environments. Rayleigh scattering refers to elastic scattering, where the frequencies of the incident and scattered photons are the same. Rayleigh and resonance scattering is a critical role study Lyman Alpha objects in the early universe. The scattering causes the frequency and spatial diffusion of Lyα. In the case of Raman scattering, the energies of the incident and scattered photons are different. The photons near Lyβ convert to the optical photons near Hα through Raman scattering. The photon scattered by atomic hydrogen can carry both of the properties of the H I region and the emission region. I adopt a Monte Carlo approach to investigate the formation of the various spectral line features through Rayleigh and Raman scattering in highly thick media of atomic hydrogen. In this thesis, I present my works on radiative transfer involving the scattering processes between far UV photon and atomic hydrogen. I introduce scattering processes with atomic hydrogen and the spectral, spatial, and polarized information originating from the scattering.

  • In this paper, we investigated the propagation of surface waves in a nonhomogeneous rotating fibre-reinforced viscoelastic anisotropic media of higher order of nth order including time rate of strain. The general surface wave speed is derived to study the effect of rotation on surface waves. Particular cases for Stoneley, Love and Rayleigh waves are discussed. The results obtained in this investigation are more general in the sense that some earlier published results are obtained from our result as special cases. Also results for homogeneous media can be deduced from this investigation. For order zero our results are well agreed to fibre-reinforced materials. Also by neglecting the reinforced elastic parameters, the results reduce to well known isotropic medium. It is also observed that, surface waves cannot propagate in a fast rotating medium. Comparison was made with the results obtained in the presence and absence of rotation and parameters for fibre-reinforced of the material medium Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically. The results indicate that the effect of rotation and parameters for fibre-reinforced of the material are very pronounced.
