We present the analysis and design of a new six degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism, Eclipse-II, which can be used as a basis for general motion simulators. This mechanism allows x, y and z-axis translations and a, b and c-axis rotations. Most significantly, it presents the advantage of enabling continuous 360 degrees spinning of the platform. We first describe the computational procedures for the forward and in inverse kinematics of the Eclipse-II. Next, the complete singularity analysis is presented for the two cases of end-effector and actuator singularities. Two additional actuators are added to the original mechanism to eliminate both types of singularities with in the workspace. Some practical aspects of the prototype development are introduced.
Type VI secretion system (T6SS) has been discovered in a variety of gram-negative bacteria as a versatile weapon to stimulate the killing of eukaryotic cells or prokaryotic competitors. Type VI secretion effectors (T6SEs) are well known as key virulence factors for important pathogenic bacteria. In many Burkholderia species, T6SS has evolved as the most complicated secretion pathway with distinguished types to translocate diverse T6SEs, suggesting their essential roles in this genus. Here we attempted to detect and characterize T6SSs and potential T6SEs in target genomes of plant-associated and environmental Burkholderia species based on computational analyses. In total, 66 potential functional T6SS clusters were found in 30 target Burkholderia bacterial genomes, of which 33% possess three or four clusters. The core proteins in each cluster were specified and phylogenetic trees of three components (i.e., TssC, TssD, TssL) were constructed to elucidate the relationship among the identified T6SS clusters. Next, we identified 322 potential T6SEs in the target genomes based on homology searches and explored the important domains conserved in effector candidates. In addition, using the screening approach based on the profile hidden Markov model (pHMM) of T6SEs that possess markers for type VI effectors (MIX motif) (MIX T6SEs), 57 revealed proteins that were not included in training datasets were recognized as novel MIX T6SE candidates from the Burkholderia species. This approach could be useful to identify potential T6SEs from other bacterial genomes.

During initial interactions of bacteria with their host plants, most plants recognize the bacterial infections and repel the pathogen by plant defense mechanism. The most active plant defense mechanism is the hypersensitive response (HR) which is the localized induced cell death in the plant at the site of infection by a pathogen. A primary locus induced in gram-negative phytopathogenic bacteria during this initial interaction is the Hrp locus. The Hrp locus is composed of a cluster of genes that encodes the bacteral Type 111 machinery that is involved in the secretion and translocation of effector proteins to the plant cell. DNA sequence analysis of hrp gene in phytopathogenic bacteria has revealed a Hrp pathogenicity is]and (PAI) with a tripartite mosaic structure. For many gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, colonization of the host's tissue depends on the type III protein secretion system (TTSS) which secrets and translocates effector proteins into the host cell. Effectors can be divided into several groups including broad host range effectors, host specific effectors, disease specific effectors, and effectors inhibit host defenses. The role of effectors carrying LRR domain in plant resistance is very elusive since most known plant resistance gene carry LRR domain. Host specific effectors such as several avr gene products are involved in the determination of the host specificity. Almost all the phytopathogenic Xanthomonas spp. carry avrBs1, avrBs2, and avrBs3 homologs. Some strains of X. oryzae pv. oryzae carry more than 10 copies of avrBs3 homologs. However, the functions of all those avr genes in host specificity are not characterized well.;

This paper focuses on the study of complete dynamic modeling and maximum dynamic load carrying capacity computation of N-flexible links and N-flexible joints mobile manipulator undergoing large deformation. Nonlinear dynamic analysis relies on the Timoshenko theory of beams. In order to model the system completely and precisely, structural and joint flexibility, nonlinear strain-displacement relationship, payload, and non-holonomic constraints will be considered to. A finite element solution method based on mixed method is applied to model the shear deformation. This procedure is considerably more involved than displacement based element and shear deformation can be readily included without inducing the shear locking in the element. Another goal of this paper is to present a computational procedure for determination of the maximum dynamic load of geometrically nonlinear manipulators with structural and joint flexibility. An effective measure named as Moment-Height Stability (MHS) measure is applied to consider the dynamic stability of a wheeled mobile manipulator. Simulations are performed for mobile base manipulator with two flexible links and joints. The results represent that dynamic stability constraint is sensitive when calculating the maximum carrying load. Furthermore, by changing the trajectory of end effector, allowable load also changes. The effect of torsional spring parameter on the joint deformation is investigated in a parametric sensitivity study. The findings show that, by the increase of torsional stiffness, the behavior of system approaches to a system with rigid joints and allowable load of robot is also enhanced. A comparison is also made between the results obtained from small and large deformation models. Fluctuation range in obtained figures for angular displacement of links and end effector path is bigger for large deformation model. Experimental results are also provided to validate the theoretical model and these have good agreement with the simulated results.

This paper proposes a method of designing and controlling delta robots with low-cost DC motors, which are widely used in the automation process. Simulation was performed by interpreting the mechanics and dynamics of the delta robot, and based on this analysis, low-cost DC motor was selected. Experiments were conducted to obtain characteristic values of motors and the current-position cascade control system was designed and implemented. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed system, the experiment to check that the end-effector of the delta robot follows the target path was progressed. Through the experiment, the limitations of using low-cost motors were overcome by designing compensation algorithms and the performance of the position control was verified.
This study analyzed the geometric, compressive, cutting and friction properties of oriental melons in order to design a gripper capable of soft handling and a cutter for cutting oriental melon vine among the end effector of oriental melon as a preliminary step for developing the end effector of the robot capable of harvesting oriental melons in protected cultivation. As a result, the average length, diameter at the midpoint, weight, volume and roundness of the oriental melons were 108 mm, 70 mm, 188 g, 333 mL and 3.8 mm. Nonlinear regression analysis was performed on the equation $W=L^a{\times}D_2^b$ with variation of the length (L) and diameter (D2) of the weight (W) of the oriental melons. As a result, it was shown that there was a correlation between a of 2.0279 and b of -0.9998 as a constant value. The average diameter of the oriental melon vine was 3.8 mm, and most vines were distributed within a radius of 5 mm from the center. The average yield value, compressive strength and hardness of the oriental melons were $36.5N/cm^2$, $185.7N/cm^2$ and $636.7N/cm^2$, respectively. The average cutting force and shear strength of the oriental melon vines were $2.87{\times}10^{-2}\;N$ and $5.60N/cm^2$, respectively. The maximum friction coefficient of the oriental melons was rubber of 0.609, followed by aluminium of 0.393, stainless steel of 0.177 and teflon of 0.079. It was considered possible to apply it to the size of the gripper and cutter, turning radius, dynamics of drive motor and selection of materials and their quality in light of the position error and safety factor according to the movement when designing end effector based on the analyzed data.

This paper describes lost motion analysis for a novel 6-DOF ultra-precision positioning stage. In the case of flexure hinge based precision positioning stage, lost motion is generated when the displacement of actuator is not delivered completely to the end-effector because of the elasticity of flexure hinge. Consequently, it is need to compute amount of lost motion to compensate the motion or to decide appropriate control method for precision positioning. Lost motion analysis for the vertical actuation unit is presented. The analysis results are presented in two ways: analytic and numerical analyses. It is found that they closely coincide with each other by 1% error. In finite element analysis result, the amount of lost motion is turned out to be about 3%. Although, the amount is not so large, it is necessary procedure to check the lost motion to establish the control method.

In this paper, a parallel manipulator is comprised of two sliders and four links. Sliders execute a linear reciprocating motion depending on parallel guides and make the connected links rotate. A couple of links connected by sliders do coupling motion. The end-effector called a link tip has orientation angle. Through the kinematics analysis of this manipulator, we found displacement, velocity and acceleration using direct and inverse kinematics. We used equations that derived from this analysis and determined five constraint conditions. These conditions had much to do with rotation states of links, the relative relation of link length and coupling motion state. To verify those, we suggest a new algorithm regarding constraint conditions of a manipulator. With the result which performed the algorithm, we found out that operation range of coupled links was limited by relative relation of link length and that manipulator was not able to carry out a series of link motion, in case of being the link vertical between two parallel guides.

In order to utilize a parallel mechanism as a machine tool component, it is important to estimate the errors of its end-effector due to the uncertainties in parts. This study proposes an error analysis for a new parallel device, a cubic parallel mechanism. For the parallel device, we consider two kinds of errors. One is a static error due to link stiffness and the other is a dynamic error due to clearances in the parts. In this study, we propose a stiffness model for the cubic parallel mechanism under the assumption that the link stiffness is a linear function of the link length. Also, from the fact that the errors of u-joints and spherical joints are changed with the direction of force acting on the link, they are regarded as a part of link errors, and then the error model is derived using forward kinematics. Lastly, both the error models are integrated into the total error, which is analyzed with a test example that the platform moves along a circular path. This analysis can be used in predicting the accuracy of other parallel devices.
The performance study shows the result using two different methods which are used to control missile or aircraft. One is the Thrust Vector Control(TVC) method for the aviation of next generation and the other is the present effective Shroud Jet-vane System(SJVS) method for the satellite effector development. The research was done through the performance estimation using the numerical simulation analysis, the modelling, the performance measuring using the model, the investigation of the flow visualization and aerodynamic performance with the enforced power to the vane and the result comparison.
