Magnetic anomaly generated around a ship is mainly due to the permanent magnetization(PM) and induced magnetization (IM) remaining on the hull. It is very difficult to predict the direction and its magnitude of the permanent magnetization distributed over the hull, that is caused by mechanical or thermal stress. In this paper, an effective method is proposed to separate two components, the one produced by PM and the other by IM, from the underwater earth field signal distorted by the ferromagnetic material of the ship. The method can easily provide the two kinds of magnetic anomaly through exploiting experimental results and 3D electromagnetic field analyses even though the PM distribution on the hull is not known. To validate the proposed method, a model ship is manufactured and tested. The results would be of much help to basis research for securing safe navigation of a ship against dangerous factors in underwater.

We investigated the characteristics of a flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) considering magnetization characteristic of iron core. The flux-lock type SFCL, like other types of SFCLs using the iron core, undergoes the saturation of the iron core during the initial fault time. Therefore, if the design to prevent the saturation of the iron core is considered, the effective fault current limiting operation can be achieved. Through the analysis for its equivalent circuit including the magnetization characteristic of the iron core, the limiting impedance of the flux-lock type SFCL was drawn. The magnetization currents and the limited currents of SFCL, which were dependent on the winding direction and the turns' ratio between two coils, were investigated from the short circuit experiment. It was confirmed that their experimental results agreed with the analysis ones.

In this paper, the magnetization characteristics and the stored energy of magnetically coupled superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL)s using single and double high-Tc superconducting (HTSC) elements were compared. To analyze the magnetization characteristics and the stored energy, the magnetizing current and the flux linkage, which were derived from the electrical equivalent circuit of the SFCL using single and double HTSC elements, were calculated from the voltages and the current measured in the short-circuit tests. Through the comparative analysis on the magnetization characteristics and the stored energy for SFCL using sing and double HTSC elements, the magnetically coupled SFCL using double HTSC elements was shown to be more effective than the SFCL using single HTSC element from the point of view of the magnetic saturation.
For large scale power applications of HTS conductor, it is getting more important to have a stacked HTS coated conductor with low loss and large current capacity. But it was not easy to measure some electric properties. Stabilizer free YBCO CC for striated/ stacked conductors is easily burned out during the measurement of the critical current density because it has no stabilizer and it is difficult to set-up the current lead and voltage taps because it has many pieces of YBCO CC in a conductor. Instead of direct measuring the critical current of a stacked HTS coated conductor, indirect estimation from measuring a magnetization loss of HTS coated conductor could be useful for practical estimation of the critical current. The magnetization loss of a superconductor is supposed to be affected by a full penetrating magnetic field, and it tends to show an inflection point at the full penetrating magnetic field when we generate the graph of magnetization loss vs. external magnetic field. The full penetrating magnetic field depends on the shape of the conductor and its critical current density, so we can estimate the effective critical current density from measuring the magnetization loss. In this paper, to prove the effectiveness of this indirect estimation of the critical current, we prepared several different kinds of YBCO CC(coated conductor) including a stacked conductor short samples and measured the magnetization losses and the critical currents of each sample by using linked pick up coils and direct voltage measurement with transport current respectively.
A 66-year-old woman was referred for treatment of incidental detection of two intracranial aneurysms. Time-of-flight MR angiography (TOF MRA) revealed two aneurysms at the M1 segment of the right middle cerebral artery, and clinoid segment of left internal carotid artery, respectively. On digital subtraction angiography, there was a saccular aneurysm on the left internal carotid artery, but the other aneurysm was not detected on the right middle cerebral artery. Based on comprehensive review of imaging findings, organized thrombosed aneurysm was judged as the most likely diagnosis. In the presented report, magnetization transfer (MT) pulse to TOF MRA was used, to differentiate aneurysm-mimicking lesion on TOF MRA. We report that MT technique could be effective in differentiating true aneurysm, from possible T1 high signal artifact on TOF MRA.

Spinel ferrite thin films Fe3-x MnxO4 (x=0.000, 0.006, 0.0010, 0.015, 0.023) were prepared on the coverglass by ferrite plating technique. To investigate the uniaxial anisotrpy of the samples, the saturation and effective magnetization of the thin films were measured by VSM(vibrating sample magnetometer) and FMR(ferromagnetic resonance) measurements respectively. The spectroscopic splitting g factor were estimated from the ferromagnetic resonance curves. For x=0.000, 0.006, the effective magnetization was measured of temperatures form T=77 K to T=300 K. The results were analyzed in terms of Bloch's law Ms(T) = Ms(0) (1-BT3/2-CT5/2). The Bloch coefficient B, C were determined by fitting. Ms(0) was obtained by extrapolating Meff to 0 K. From this result, the spin wave stiffness constants D was also determined.

The transformer is expected to be an essential component of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for both the increase of voltage ratings in SFCL and the simultaneous quench due to different critical current between HTSC elements. However, for the design to prevent the saturation of iron core and the effective fault current limitation, the analysis for operation of SFCL with consideration for the magnetization characteristics are required. In this paper, the fault current limiting characteristics related with the magnetization ones were investigated through the variation of the ratio of the number of turns in the 1st and the 2nd windings. The proper design condition with variation of the number of turns to make the effective fault current limiting operation could be determined.
The out-of-plane and in-plane angular dependence of ferromagnetic resonance field was measured in NiFe thin films fabricated by magnetron sputtering. The effective magnetization was obtained from the out-of-plane angular dependence of ferromagnetic resonance field, which was well agreed with calculated one. The decrease of effective magnetization with NiFe thickness was due to the surface anisotropy constant of $K_s=-0.23\;erg/cm^2$. The in-plane uniaxial anisotropy fields were obtained from the in-plane angular dependence of ferromagnetic resonance field. The easy axis of in-plane uniaxial anisotropy field was rotated to the reverse direction of applied magnetic field during sample fabrication, which was explained by the antiferromagnetic NiFeO layer at sample surface.
Measurements of the Faraday rotation and magnetization of terbium-doped Hoya FR5 glass and cerium-doped Hoya FR4 glass have been made as a function of temperature T in the range 4.2 K -10 K and of magnetic field H of up to 80 kG at the $Ar^+$ laser wavelength of 514.5nm. The saturations of magnetization and Faraday rotation above H/T> $5kG.K^{-1}$ can be analyzed by the quantum theory of paramagnetism. Calculated parameters show that the large Verdet constant of $Ce^{3+}$ glass is due to the effective $4f\rightarrow5d$ electric dipole transition effect and that of $Tb^{3+}$ glass is due to the magnetization effect.effect.
The HDDR process can be used as an effective means of processing of the coercive Nd-Fe-B-type or the Sm2Fe17Nx materials. The HDDR (hydrogenation, disproportionation, desorption, recombination) processed materials are feartured with a very fine microstructure. The thermomagnetic characteristics of the Nd-Fe-B-type or the Sm2Fe17Nx materials with fine microstructure due to the HDDR process were investigated. It has been found that the fine-microstructured hard magnetic materials showed an unusual TMA (Thermomagnetic analysis) tracting featured with a low and constant magnetization at lower temperature range and a peak just below their Curie temperatures when a low external field is applied. This thermomagnetic characteristic was immediate particularly in the TMA with a low applied field. This thermomagnetic characteristic was interpreted in terms of the competition between two counteracting effects; the decrease in magnetication due to the thermal agitation at an elevated temperature and the increase in magnetization resulting from the rotation of magnetization of the fine grains comparable to a critical single domain size due to the decreased magnetocrystalline anisotropy at an elevated temperature.
