The purpose of this study is to propose the basic data for the development of a sensor capable of simultaneously measuring the liquid-level, concentration and temperature of a urea tank using ultrasonic and electrical conductivity sensors for diesel vehicles with a urea-SCR system. It was found that the liquid-level of the urea tank using the ultrasonic sensor showed a good linearity with the actual liquid-level, and the urea concentration maintained good linearity in the range of 32.5 wt% to 10 wt%. It was an effective measurement of urea concentration to use the electrical conductivity sensor in the temperature range of $-10{\sim}22^{\circ}C$ and to use the ultrasonic sensor at $22^{\circ}C$ or more. Simultaneous measurement of concentration, liquid-level and temperature of the urea tank will be possible by attaching the electrical conductivity sensor and the ultrasonic sensor (split-type) to one sensor together.
Nb and Ti were added to 316 stainless steel, and then heat-treatments and surface treatments were performed on the 316 stainless steel and the Nb- and Ti-added alloys. All samples indicated enhanced electrical conductivity after surface treatments, whereas they showed low electrical conductivity before surface treatments due to the existence of non-conductive passive film on the alloy surface. In particular, the Hb- and Ti-added alloys showed remarkable enhancement of electrical conductivity compared to the original alloy, 316 stainless steel. Surface characterization revealed that small carbide particles formed on the alloy surface after surface treatments, while the alloys indicated flat surface structure before surface treatments. $Cr_{23}C_6$ mainly formed on the 316 stainless steel, and NbC and TiC mainly formed on the Nb- and Ti-added alloys, respectively. We attribute the enhanced electrical conductivity after surface treatments to the formation of these carbide particles, possibly acting as a means of electro-conductive channel through the passive film. Furthermore, NbC and TiC are supposed to be more effective carbides than $Cr_{23}C_6$ as electro-conductive channels of stainless steel
Single-well tracer tests, especially push pull tracer tests, are more effective to estimate hydraulic parameters and microbial metabolic activities in terms of duration and cost compared to multi-well tracer tests. However, there are some drawbacks in accuracy, complicated data analysis and uniqueness. These shortages are thought to be derived from the applied conditions which affect mass recovery curve and breakthrough curve. Factors such as extraction rate, resting period, hydraulic conductivity and hydraulic gradient are considered as the major factors determining the mass recovery rate and shape of the breakthrough curve. The results of the sensitivity analysis are summarized as follows: 1) the significant change in concentration of breakthrough curve is obtained when the extraction rate increases. This effect would also be much higher if the hydraulic conductivity is lower; 2) the mass recovery rate decreases with the increase of resting time, and the difference of mass recovery rates for different resting times is inversely proportional to the hydraulic conductivity; 3) the sensitivity values decrease with time. The hydraulic conductivity affects not only the early period, but the later period of the breakthrough curves; 4) The influence of the hydraulic gradient on the breakthrough curves is greater at earlier stage than at later stage. The mass recovery rate is inversely proportional to the hydraulic gradient.
PdO-doped $BaZr_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_{3-\delta}$ (BZPY) proton conductors have been proposed as applicable for intermediate temperature electrolytes for protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) because the PdO doping is effective for improving the proton conductivity of $BaZr_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_{3-\delta}$ (BZY) with high affinity for hydrogen. In order to further improve the conductivity of BZPY, two-phase composite electrolytes consisting of a BZPY and molten carbonate were designed. Dense BZPY-based composite electrolytes were fabricated after sintering at $670^{\circ}C$ for 4 h, since molten carbonates fill the grain boundary of the porous BZPY matrix. Furthermore, BZPY/$(Li-0.5Na)_2CO_3$ composites show a significantly enhanced protonic conductivity at intermediate temperatures. This may be because easy proton transport is possible through the interface of the carbonate and oxide phase.
We have prepared siloxane polymers grafted with trifluoromethane-sulfonylamide and oligoether side chains for solid polymer electrolytes with enhanced ionic conductivity. The grafted trifluoromethane sulfonylamide groups seem to be effective as an anion recepting site to enhance the ionic conductivity of the solid polymer electrolyte. The anion receptor grafted siloxane polymers showed one order of magnitude higher ionic conductivity than the siloxane polymers without anion receptor grafts. The fitting parameter A of the VTF plot which was related to the carrier density of the electrolyte increased with increasing the number of grafted anion receptor. The results of experiment indicate that the anion-complexing site of the anion receptor grafted polymer host effectively traps the anions. The anion receptor grafted polymer was found to be a promising material for lithium polymer batteries.

The Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) measurement is an efficient and effective diagnostic technique based on time domain measurement, for evaluating the high voltage insulation condition. This paper presents a review and comparison results from several published papers on the application of the PDC method to finding the conductivity and moisture content of various types of insulators. For solid insulation, the study was focused on cable insulation, electric machine stator insulation, and paper insulator in transformer insulation with different conditions. For liquid insulation, the review and comparison was done on biodegradable and mineral transformer oils, with fresh oil condition, and aged condition. The results from previous researchers tests were complied, analyzed and discussed, to evaluate the application of the PDC method to monitor the conductivity and moisture of HV equipment insulation systems. From the review results, the PDC technique successfully gives an indication of the conductivity and moisture level of high voltage insulation.

Eggs are considered an excellent complete food because they contain many major energy sources, including protein. Eggs are one of the most widely consumed foods worldwide, and egg consumption is steadily increasing. Eggs are generally classified according to their quality and weight. Various characteristics of eggs must be considered for the design and effective utilization of equipment used for the transport, processing, packaging, and storage of eggs. In this study, egg surface area, volume, density, etc. were measured according to the grade of the egg. The values of several geometrical properties that were measured tended to increase with increasing egg grade. The smallest grade eggs had the lowest shell thickness and density. The electrical conductivity of the eggshell and its contents was measured with a self-made electrode and equipment. The egg shell showed properties similar to insulators, and as the thickness increased, the electrical conductivity tended to increase. The electrical conductivity of the egg yolk showed almost constant values under all conditions. The electrical conductivity of the egg white and mixture was particularly low at 0.1 kHz. Fouling and electrode corrosion occurred in a low frequency region due to the egg white. In this study, various geometric and electrical characteristics of eggs were measured, and based on this, factors that could serve as new indicators for egg processed production were analyzed and investigated.
Knowledge of ground thermal properties is most important for the proper design of large BHE(borehole heat exchanger) systems. Thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices were first introduced in Sweden and USA in 1995. Thermal response tests have so far been used primarily for in insitu determination of design data for BHE systems, but also for evaluation of grout material, heat exchanger types and ground water effects. The main purpose has been to determine insitu values of effective ground thermal conductivity, including the effect of ground-water flow and natural convection in the boreholes. Test rig is set up on a small trailer, and contains a circulation pump, a heater, temperature sensors and a data logger for recording the temperature data. A constant heat power is injected into the borehole through the pipe system of test rig and the resulting temperature change in the borehole is recorded. The recorded temperature data are analysed with a line-source model, which gives the effective insitu values of rock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance.
Performing a series of in-situ thermal response tests, the effective thermal conductivity of six vertical closed-loop ground heat exchangers was experimentally evaluated and compared each other, which were constructed in a test bed in Wonju. To compare thermal efficiency of the ground heat exchangers in field, the six boreholes were constructed with different construction conditions: grouting materials (cement vs. bentonite), different additives (silica sand vs. graphite) and the shape of pipe-sections (general U-loop type vs. 3 pipe-type). From the test results, it can be concluded that cement grouting has a higher effective thermal conductivity than that of bentonite grouting, and the efficiency of graphite better performs over silica sand as a thermally-enhancing addictive. In addition, a new 3 pipe-type heat exchanger provides less thermal interference between the inlet and outlet pipe than the conventional U-loop type heat exchanger, which results in superior thermal performance.
The effects of various hydroxide compounds on base stacking (BS) were investigated for pre-concentration of DNA molecules in capillary electrophoresis (CE). In BS, hydroxide ions ($OH^-$) were electrokinetically introduced after DNA sample injection. A neutralization reaction occurred between the $OH^-$ and $Tris^+$ of the running buffer, which resulted in a zone of lower conductivity. Within the low conductivity zone of the high electric field, the DNA molecules moved more rapidly and were concentrated in front of the low conductivity zone. At the same BS conditions of CE, the enhanced sensitivity of the DNA samples was dependent on the kind of multivalent cations in the hydroxide compounds. Except for LiOH, the hydroxide compounds with monovalent cations showed more effective BS than those with divalent cations because of solubility, ionic strength and electronegativity. The order of hydroxide compounds that enhance the detection sensitivity of DNA molecules was as follows: NaOH > $NH_4OH$ > KOH > $Ba(OH)_2$ > $Sr(OH)_2$ > LiOH > $Ca(OH)_2$ > $Mg(OH)_2$. $NH_4OH$, KOH and $Ba(OH)_2$ proved to be efficient hydroxide compounds to use as effective BS reagents in CE instead of NaOH.
