  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the magnitude and distribution of stress using a photoelastic model from the mandibular distal extension removable partial dentures with the mesial or distal placement of the occlusal rest and the mesial or distal connection in the back-action clasp with the five various designs of the back-action clasp, that is, the mesial connection and the distal rest, the distal connection and mesial rest, the mesial connection and mesial rest, the distal connection and the mesial and distal rest, and the mesial connection, and the mesial and distal rest. A photoelastic model was made of the epoxy resin(PC-1) and the hardner(PLH-1) with the acrylic resin teeth used and was coated with the plastic cement-1 at the lingual surface of the model and then five kinds of the removable partial dentures on the photoelastic model were set. A unilateral vertical load of 12.5 kg was applied on the central fossa of the first molar with the use of specially designed loading device and the pattern and distribution of the stress of the photoelastic model under each condition was analyzed by the reflective circular polariscope. The following results were obtained. 1. In the back-action clasp with the mesial connection and mesial rest of the case 3, the effect of the stress distribution was the most favorable. 2. In the back-action clasp with the mesial and distal rest, of the case 4 and 5, the stress distribution was more greatly showed in the terminal abutment. 3. Generally, the stress distribution was more favarable in the mesial connection than in the distal connection. 4. In the back-action clasp with the mesial connection of the case 1, 3 and 5, the stress distribution was the most favorable in the mesial rest.

  • Semi-rigid frames are frames for whcih the connections joining the beam and column are neither fully rigid nor perfectly pinned. In reality, all steel frames are semi-rigid in nature as all connections exhibit a certain degree of flexibility under loads. For semi-rigid frmaed structures, it is tended to reduce more rigidity of the member for the nonlinear behavior of connections and the P-delta effects of framed structure. To predict the actual behavior of semi-rigid steel frames, a more realistic analysis methods which explicitly takes into account the effect of connection flexibility should be used. In this research, the effect of connection flexibility in the semi-rigid structure has been investigated. To predict the response of flexibility connected frames, the algorithm of semi-rigid steel frame is developed using connection model having nonlinear spring on end of beam.

  • PURPOSE. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of implant connection design (external vs. internal) on the fit discrepancy and torque loss of zirconia and titanium abutments. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two regular platform dental implants, one with external connection ($Br{\aa}nemark$, Nobel Biocare AB) and the other with internal connection (Noble Replace, Nobel Biocare AB), were selected. Seven titanium and seven customized zirconia abutments were used for each connection design. Measurements of geometry, marginal discrepancy, and rotational freedom were done using video measuring machine. To measure the torque loss, each abutment was torqued to 35 Ncm and then opened by means of a digital torque wrench. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and t-test at ${\alpha}=0.05$ of significance. RESULTS. There were significant differences in the geometrical measurements and rotational freedom between abutments of two connection groups (P<.001). Also, the results showed significant differences between titanium abutments of internal and external connection implants in terms of rotational freedom (P<.001). Not only customized internal abutments but also customized external abutments did not have the exact geometry of prefabricated abutments (P<.001). However, neither connection type (P=.15) nor abutment material (P=.38) affected torque loss. CONCLUSION. Abutments with internal connection showed less rotational freedom. However, better marginal fit was observed in externally connected abutments. Also, customized abutments with either connection could not duplicate the exact geometry of their corresponding prefabricated abutment. However, neither abutment connection nor material affected torque loss values.

  • An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effect of beam to column connection rigidity on the behavior of infilled steel frames. Five half scale, single-story and single-bay specimens, including four infilled frames, as well as, one bare frame, were tested under in-plane lateral cyclic reversal loading. The connections of beam to column for bare frame as well as two infill specimens were rigid, whereas those of others were pinned. For each frame type, two different infill panels were considered: (1) masonry infill, (2) masonry infill strengthened with shotcrete. The experimental results show that the infilled frames with pinned connections have less stiffness, strength and potential of energy dissipation compared to those with rigid connections. Furthermore, the validity of analytical methods proposed in the literature was examined by comparing the experimental data with analytical ones. It is shown that the analytical methods overestimate the stiffness of infilled frame with pinned connections; however, the strength estimation of both infilled frames with rigid and pinned connections is acceptable.

  • The paper presents a finite element model for studying timber-concrete composite beams under long-term loading. Both deformability of connection system and rheological behaviour of concrete, timber and connection are fully considered. The creep of component materials and the influence of moisture content on the creep of timber and connection, the so-called "mechano-sorptive" effect, are evaluated by means of accurate linear models. The solution is obtained by applying an effective step-by-step procedure in time, which does not require storing the whole stress history in some points in order to account for the creep behaviour. Hence the proposed method is suitable for analyses of composite beams subjected to complex loading and thermo-hygrometric histories. The possibility to accurately predict the long-term response is then shown by comparing numerical and experimental results for different tests.

  • In this paper, we test the electrical resistance of flat wire in the PV module. normally solar cell has two kind of flat wire(inter connection ribbon and bus bar ribbon). we found the phenomenon that has a unbalance with resistance when we make a wiling between of string. So, we measurement the resistance of flat wire each other. and analysis of missmatch with resistance between flat wires on PV module. next to survey of IR picture on missmatch flat wire samples for analyze of missmatch with current in the wire. and we perform IR test with solar cell that has a connection with flat wire for test the effect of missmatch resistance on solar cell. Finally we perform the Dark I-V test for survey of effect by the unbalance of resistance. By the result of Dark I-V test, the series resistance of existing connection sample is large more then innovated connection sample.

  • Today, the power capacity of a wind turbine and the size of a blade is increasing to capture more wind resources, reduce the number of wind turbines on a wind farm, and reduce the cost of energy. As the blade size becomes larger, attention is being paid to the structural integrity of the blade root connection due to the heavy gravitational load effect and increased aerodynamic loads on the large blade, which could cause catastrophic failure of the blade. Therefore, the secure bolted joint connection of the blade to the hub is very important. In this paper, attention was given to the stress concentration factor (SCF) at the first thread between the M42 bolt and nut. The effect of various design parameters on the stress concentration factor was investigated, which included nut type, nut height, and reduced shank bolt. From a close design investigation of the numerical results, it turned out that the use of a reduced shank bolt resulted in the largest reduction of the stress concentration factor by 40 %, and the round nut type also reduced the SCF by 10 %, which will be beneficial to large wind turbine blades over 100 meters.

  • This study developed a structural model to examine the relationships among consumer traits, self-brand connections, and purchase intentions for local fashion brands under "Guochao" consumption in China. An online survey with a self-administered questionnaire was undertaken through Chinese SNS tools to collect the data. A total of 276 usable responses were obtained from Chinese consumers who are residents in China. More females(n=174, +63%) than males (n=102, 37%) participated, and they were aged from 18 to 45 years old. The measurement model was confirmed to be reliable and valid. In the estimated structural model, the consumer traits of ethnocentrism and cultural affinity positively affected the self-brand connection, leading to purchase intentions for the local fashion brands. Specifically, the ethnocentrism factor indirectly affected the purchase intentions by mediating the self-brand connection, while the cultural affinity factor had significant direct effects on purchase intentions. Thus, a partial mediating effect of self-brand connection was found in the relationship between the consumer traits(ethnocentrism and cultural affinity) and purchase intentions of local fashion brands in the cultural "Guochao" consumption context. This study provides insights into extending the cultural theory of ethnocentrism relevant to self-brand connections and discusses the managerial implications for developing strategic global branding in the Chinese fashion markets.
