  • There have been several international lesson studies such as TIMSS Video Study and Learner's Perspective Study. According to the TIMSS Video Study report, within differences found in the lessons in each country is much less than the between differences found in the lessons across countries. This means that each country has its own way of teaching, so called 'national script'. On the contrary, LPS researchers are skeptical about the existence of 'national script' since significant differences are identified within the lessons conducted by the same teacher. The purpose of this study is to analyze the LPS Korean data in terms of class organization and teacher's approach and activities. The categories of class organization are classwork, small group seatwork, and individual seatwork, and the those of teacher's approach and activities are exploratory, directive, summarization, exercises and practice, and assigning homework. Ten lessons were videotaped from two Korean schools respectively, thus altogether twenty lessons were recorded and analyzed. Each lesson shows unique class approach and teacher's approach and activities, however the average of each category in class organization and teacher's approach and activities for the two schools are very similar. This result supports the TIMSS Video Study in the regard that there is a commonality among the lessons within the country, but also confirms the LPS result that it is difficult to assume 'national script'. This study is a preliminary investigation into the LPS Korean data, and the further in-depth interpretation of LPS lessons will be followed.

  • In this study the interpretive perspective means a point of view on educational curriculum in which in order to reach the understanding of the meaning of the behaviors and beliefs of human beings, and the historical and cultural products, the process of discussing on the basis of historical and cultural knowledge is very important. The developed curriculum means the one that consists of the goal of the curriculum, the contents of the curriculum, lesson plans, and the instruction-learning materials. This study has been carried out in four steps: conceptualization, development, application and evaluation. This study has tried to propose some changes in the contents of clothing life education on the basis of the interpretive perspective by firstly, assuming some core concepts that were related to clothing life education in Home Economics and secondly, organizing the contents of the clothing life culture area based upon historical and cultural materials. The results of the application of the developed curriculum came out positive. The strong points of the developed curriculum showed that for the students the curriculum was helpful in seeking answers to such questions as 'who I am' and 'what kind of being I am' through the perception of traditional culture and clothing life. In addition, the developed learning contents were recognized as new knowledge. It also showed that teaching contents with a focus on the interpretive perspective could play a role as reflection for the practice and for the arrival at the final perception. A weak point of the developed curriculum is that the Home Economics teachers themselves might find difficulty preparation for teaching this material because of their limited understanding and knowledge of the historical and cultural materials about clothing life.

  • There have been a number of lesson analysis studies, yet not many studies address the issue of the perspective of students who play a key role in the lesson along with the teacher. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the teacher and the students interpret the mathematics lesson they experienced, and to find out the potential discrepancy between the teacher and the students in their perceptions of mathematics lesson. To pursue this purpose, 10 consecutive lessons were videotaped in the 8th grade mathematics classroom, and the video-stimulated post-lesson interviews were also conducted with the teacher and the students. Based on the lesson videos and the interview data, six discrepancies between the teacher and the students in their perceptions of mathematics lesson were dentified: the discrepancy between the teacher's intention and students' interest in the lesson; different interpretation and response to the teacher's mistake; formal abidance; topaze effect; different recognition of the students' preference among the topics; teacher's insufficient response to students' needs. These six discrepancies were further categorized and some implications were drawn.

  • Since Environmental Education in Elementary School is taught separately in various subject area, a well-founded and organized curriculum in integrated Environmental Education is needed to educate teachers for professional development. In this research, a curriculum for elementary teacher in-service training program was developed in order to improve both environmental and educational competencies of elementary school teachers. The curriculum was based on the needs analysis on Environmental Education training for elementary school teachers. Also it was based on international and updated perspectives on Environmental Education, Education for Sustainable Development. The curriculum consists of the introduction and the particular perspectives. The particular is made of 60 hours, which covers 6 perspectives on environment. They are ecological perspective, environmental ethics perspective, social-cultural perspective, economic perspective, environmental hygienic perspective, and environmental policy. Environmental policies of Korea and the world were included so that teachers will understand efforts made at national level and participate more to environmental action in their schools. Lesson objectives were specified for teachers to apply this curriculum to their classroom easily. Related elementary curriculum and textbook were indicated at the end of each lesson so teachers can link their training setting with their classroom setting. Especially, in this curriculum various teaching and teaming methods for each lesson are introduced. Thus, this re- search is very practical for elementary school teachers who are planning to teach environment in their classroom.

  • This study aims to understand the phenomenon related to private schools and present the implication for policy about private school, network text analysis about newspaper editorials in conservative and progressive media was conducted. The main results are as follows. First, in newspaper editorials, there were many issues about private university and there was a distinction between private elementary secondary school and private university. Second, in newspaper editorials, 'encouraging perspective' such as financial assistance and new private school like self-governing private high school and 'controlling perspective' such as withdrawal of problem private schools were both appeared. As a result, this study presents that the perspective for private schools needs to be re-established by 'accountability' as the educational institution and 'school capacity building' away from the past frame.

  • Security administrators of companies and organizations need to come up with proper countermeasures against cyber-attacks considering infrastructures and security policies in their possession. In order to develop and verify such countermeasures, the administrators should be able to reenact both cyber-attacks and defenses. Simulations can be useful for the reenactment by overcoming its limitations including high risk and cost. If the administrators are able to design various scenarios of cyber-attacks and to develop simulation models from their viewpoints, they can simulate desired situations and observe the results more easily. It is challenging to simulate cyber-security issues, because there is lack of theoretical basis for modeling a wide range of the security field as well as pre-defined basic components used to model cyber-attacks. In this paper, we propose a modeling method for cyber-security simulations by developing a basic component and a composite model, called Abstracted Cyber-Security Unit Model (ACSUM) and Abstracted Cyber-security SIMulation model (ACSIM), respectively. The proposed models are based on DEVS(Discrete Event systems Specification) formalism, a modeling theory for discrete event simulations. We develop attack scenarios by sequencing attack behaviors using ACSUMs and then model ACSIMs by combining and abstracting the ACSUMs from a security perspective. The concepts of ACSUM and ACSIM enable the security administrators to simulate numerous cyber-security issues from their viewpoints. As a case study, we model a worm scenario using ACSUM and simulate three types of simulation models based on ACSIM from a different security perspective.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the factors affecting spirituality in nursing students. Method: A total of 152 nursing students participated in the study. Data collection was conducted from October to November 2018. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple stepwise regression via SPSS WIN 25.0. Results: The mean scores for empathy, gratitude, positive affect, negative affect, and spirituality were all average. However, there were significant differences in mean scores for spirituality according to satisfaction with major (F=5.88, p=.003), study grade (F=10.17, p<.001). Spirituality was found to be correlated with fantasy (r=.17, p<.001), empathic concern (r=.41, p<.001), perspective taking (r=.42, p<.001), personal distress (r=-.31, p<.001), gratitude (r=.65, p<.001), positive affect (r=.52, p<.001), and negative affect (r=-.30, p<.001). Significant predictors of spirituality included gratitude (${\beta}=.38$, p<.001), study grade (${\beta}=.34$, p=.009), positive affect (${\beta}=.29$, p<.001), and perspective taking (${\beta}=.16$, p=0.37), one of the sub-dimensions of empathy. Conclusion: To improve spirituality among nursing students, nursing educators should develop educational intervention programs to promote gratitude, study grades, positive affect, and perspective taking.
