The study distributed questionnaires to middle and high school adolescents of five representative cities in South Korea. The total respondents were 2240(960 from Seoul/Kyongki, and 320 each from Taegu, Pusan, Kwangju, and Taejon). The response rate was 98.7%. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and multiple regression. The results showed that Korean adolescents were segmented into five groups : TV preference group, computer preference group, friends and family involvement group, homework and study preference group, and study institute involvement group). The five groups were significantly different in regard to body image pursuit, self-esteem, and self-identity. The body image pursuit, self-esteem, and self-identity of adolescents were significantly different in regard to each environmental factors, in each adolescent group.

  • This study empirically analyzes the impact of digital divide between digital device usage motivation and operational skills on online political participation. The analysis was performed using the National Information Society Agency's 2018 digital divide survey data from September to December 2018 and applying the Heckman selection model to control the sample selection bias that may occur between internet users and non-users. The result shows the gap in motivation and device operational skills of individual citizens using digital devices has significant impact on online political participation. In socio-economic terms, it shows the age, education level and regional factors also have significant impact on online political participation, while gender and income levels do not. This study holds significance in that there are different patterns of digital divide between digital devices, identifying the motivation to use a digital device as an important factor for mobile device users, and the device operational skills, for personal computer users.

  • As the untact culture spreads, the digital divide, which is a problem of access to digital information for the vulnerable, can appear as information inequality in various fields, including the social and cultural field. This study identified the digital divide level for the vulnerable population and analyzed the effects of information accessibility, demographic and social characteristics, and physical and mental health characteristics on the information level. As a result, the higher the accessibility of information, the smaller the digital divide and the greater the digital utilization, so it is necessary to increase the accessibility of information devices and increase the ability to utilize them. In addition, the higher the age, the more women than men, and the lower the income level, the greater the digital divide, so it is necessary to increase digital capabilities through detailed class-specific programs for the vulnerable. Finally, it was found that the digital divide and the level of digital literacy had a significant effect on the life satisfaction and daily life satisfaction of the vulnerable. The expansion of competency-building education programs to enhance information utilization capabilities by changing the paradigm to a digital inclusion policy should be continuously operated.

  • One of the fundamental, important preconditions for effective teaching of geography is to collect a variety of picture data available for class and to manage the data systematically. The purpose of this study is to present one method about how to supply basic picture data available for class of Korean geography for the high school program to teachers in service and how to collect, manage and utilize the data. A total of 233 picture data related to contents of the textbook of Korean Geography have been gathered through this study, and a database has been constructed for the data. Directories were generated for individual units of the textbook, and the collected picture data was stored in the image file of each directory. This data was recorded in a CD and attached as an appendix. Since the primary purpose of this study is to suggest one method, the picture data in a database for the present study is just a fraction of lots of data available for class of Korean geography. If the user persistently enlarges and manages data based on the results of this study, the data will become a good instructional aid. The picture data can be printed over the transparent film and used for class by using the overhead protector (OHP), or it can be also used as a remote self-study tool through the computer telecommunications network (e.g., LAN or INTERNET. etc,). Most desirable, however, is to develop teachers' own method by taking account of separate units of the textbook or diverse educational environments.

  • In the era of big data, not only structured data well organized in databases, but also the Internet, social network services, it is very important to effectively analyze unstructured big data such as web documents, e-mails, and social data generated in real time in mobile environment. Big data analysis is the process of creating new value by discovering meaningful new correlations, patterns, and trends in big data stored in data storage. We intend to summarize and visualize the analysis results through frequency analysis of unstructured article data using R language, a big data analysis tool. The data used in this study was analyzed for total 104 papers in the Mon-May 2021 among the journals of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering. In the final analysis results, the most frequently mentioned keyword was "Data", which ranked first 1,538 times. Therefore, based on the results of the analysis, the limitations of the study and theoretical implications are suggested.

  • To evaluate the achievements of the Solar School Project that has been implemented in twelve African countries since 2013, a case study was implemented in Kenya and in Uganda to investigate networking activities, student accessibility to computers, the frequency of student computer use, the extent to which teaching quality was improved by the enhanced accessibility to ICT-based teaching and learning practices. The results showed the followings. First, Solar Schools have significantly improved the rates of enrollment, transferring, and school attendance. Second, Solar Schools have organized local and invitational training programs to build the capacities of teachers. Third, Solar Schools have facilitated change in neighboring schools and local communities. Fourth, the participants are required to have a clear vision, take ownership of the project, and make a commitment to continuing their individual efforts toward empowerment.

  • Smartphone use has become a part of everyday life, not only for adolescents but also for elderly and older people. Thus, this study explored the effect of demographic variables, the amount of smartphone usage, type of smartphone use and psychosocial variables on smartphone dependence of the elder group. We analyzed the data of 5627 (50s and 60s) of the Internet overdependence survey data of the Korea Information Society Agency in 2016. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, More frequency of smartphone use of weekday and weekend, and usage time of smartphone of weekday were related to greater smartphone dependence. More smartphone use for information seeking and games were associated with greater smartphone dependence. And, as loneliness and anxiety increased, smartphone dependence increased, while smartphone dependence decreased, as social capital increased. Through this study, it is necessary to understand characteristics related to smartphone dependence of elder and older group, and to use this knowledge to solve their smartphone dependence. Future studies also need to identify the causal relationship between predictors of smartphone dependence in elderly and older people.

  • The Personal Information Protection Commission shall be established under the direct jurisdiction of the President and shall independently perform affairs under its authority. It shall be comprised of total 15 members (5 members designated by the President, 5 members elected at the National Assembly and 5 members designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court), including one minister-level Chairperson and one vice-minister-level standing member. Main functions of the Personal Information Protection Commission include deliberation and resolution of major policies and improvement of ordinances and systems related to personal information protection, coordination of opinions among public institutions in regards to the management of personal information, recommendation of improvement such as suspension of infringement by a central administrative agency, a local government and a constitutional institution, and submission of annual reports on personal information protection to the National Assembly. The function and role of the Personal Information Protection Commission regulated by the current law are insufficient in terms of independence and authorities of protection agencies compared to the international standard or level of discussion. The Commission thus cannot play a sufficient role as an independent agency for efficient protection of personal information. Therefore, there is a need for law revision that revives the purpose of the establishment of the Personal Information Protection Commission.

  • Some studies require sufficient amount of time, spaces, and financial condition for practical exercises and training. In particular for the Medical education, time and space limitation is very high and difficulties occurs, since the practices are done with cadavers (deceased human body). Many alternate 3D Virtual surgery training system exist currently, however the burdensome of obtaining those costly equipments is problematic. Providing the surgical environment as similar to real as possible using 3D Virtual Reality can be a solution to current problems. The effectiveness of training could be maximized with minimized costs without the general interfaces such as keyboard and mouse, but with Oculus Rift and Leap Motion. This paper will develop and practice the 3D Virtual Operation System with two devices to investigate the possibility and expand to other Simulation fields.
