  • The Government is going to enforce assessment of dental institutions in addition to assessment of medical institutions so that it can provide good-quality medical service to people having much interest in quality of medical service. But the empirical research on the assessment of dental institutions which is still in a model assessment stage, is insufficient. Accordingly, the present research aims to help dental institutions preparing the main assessment by researching an acceptance level of workers of dental institutions in a process performing assessment of dental institutions, based on the preceding researches that the perceived utility has influence on implementation intention. The present research proved the influence that job relevance, result demonstration, usability and education & training of workers and manager's leadership of an infection management part affects perceived utility and implementation intention. As a research result, all the job relevance, result demonstration, usability have a positive(+) influence on perceived utility and implementation intention, and the influence of job relevance most affects especially. The leadership and education & training have influence on what workers get to have implementation intention after perception of utility of infection management according to the order. According to the above results, it can be understood that medical institutions preparing for assessment of dental institutions take charge of the assessment part having high relevance with work of workers and need to make a manager ordering performance of its assessment be able to foster a leadership for improving effectiveness of assessment performance.

  • Mathematics is a subject that is closely related to ensuring basic academic abilities. As the importance of basic academic abilities has emerged recently, various policies and programs have been implemented to ensure basic academic abilities in mathematics. In this study, we extracted the programs related to mathematics from the Implementation Plans of the Basic Academic Abilities Guarantee of 17 city and provincial education departments and analyzed the actual status of the programs. We divided the programs into diagnosis and support. Regarding diagnosis, we analyzed what types of diagnostic tools are used, who chooses diagnostic tools, who is diagnosed, and when students are diagnosed. Regarding support, we classified it as in-class, in-school, and out-of-school support, and further analyzed the type of the learning support program and the expertise of the instructor. The results of this study showed that there was room for improvement in the timing of diagnosis and diagnostic expertise. This study also found the problems with the lack of preventive programs, ensuring teacher expertise, and support for dyscalculia. This study is expected to contribute to the implementation of programs to ensure basic academic abilities in mathematics and to promote research on basic academic abilities in mathematics education.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of Science Chief Teachers in schools, focusing on the specific activities in which they engage during the school year as a part of the science curriculum in the school. To do so, five research participants were selected who were in charge of the activities of the Science Chief Teacher in elementary schools. After the interviews, their activities and roles were categorized into "planning and implementation" and "management and supplementation." In addition, the research participants were asked to bring documents they had drafted and provide information about accomplishments related to science contests, lists of materials and equipment used in science labs, and other materials to be used as reference data for the research. As prompted by the research, the category of "planning and implementation," which represented the activities conducted by the Science Chief Teachers, was further classified into "operation of the intramural events for the Month of Science at the beginning of the school year," "participation in contests sponsored by the Office of Education in accordance with the results of the intramural events," " the operation of the science club in school," and "preparation for the end of the year evaluation of the science education performance." As for the category of "management and supplementation," it was further classified into "constant management and improvement of the science lab," "maintenance of the relationship with the public service officials present at science lab," and "management of other matters related to the science education." Through this study, it was possible to look into the activities of the Science Chief Teachers who supported the smooth progress of science education in schools. This study will provide implications for improving the work efficiency of the Chief Science Teachers and indicate the difficulties expected in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate cognitive acceleration effect of the experimental group over three years compared with the control group through the ‘Thinking Science' program in the middle school students. The ‘Thinking Science' program was implemented to 168 students in 7th grade over a period of two years. After implementation of the ‘Thinking Science' program, the improvement of formal thinking ability of the students was almost twice examined with SRT VII as the post-test and the delayed test. It was shown that by the end of the implementation period the experimental group had achieved a significantly greater gain score in levels of cognitive development than had the control group. In the subsequent year during which there was no further implementation, the experimental group continued to develop at the same rate as the control group. However, it is clear that much more experimental students in mature concrete operational stage shifted to formal operational stage in delayed test. The results were also analyzed by gender, and cognitive levels of the students. In the post-test, the ratio of girls that shifted to formal operation stage in the experimental group increased as compared with the ratio of boys, while, in the delayed test cognitive level of boys was more effective than that of girls.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze secondary school chemistry education in Korea and China in order to identify implications for the improvement of Korean chemistry education. The school systems, curricula, and teacher education related to secondary chemistry education of both countries were compared and analyzed. The 6-3-3-4 school system is used in both countries, and national school curricula are formulated by the Ministries of Education in both countries. The 1996 chemistry curricular standard for advanced middle schools in China, and 1997 chemistry curriculum for Korean high schools were compared in several aspects, followed by comparisons of chemistry teacher education in both countries. Based on the comparative analysis of chemistry education, some ideas and issues which provide implications for improving Korean high school chemistry education were identified. Chemistry teaching in the junior secondary schools, tentative implementation of curricula, required course work in chemistry, structure of curricula, oral assessments, probation of teachers and other issues are identified and discussed in this study.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate on the job implementation of ITEC(Invention Teacher Education Center)'s in-service teacher training. To accomplish this purpose, teacher's perception on retention, usefulness, utilization, and enhancement were investigated after one year completing in-service teacher training. The populations of this study were 60 teachers completing in-service teacher training of the southeast ITEC. The methods of this study were survey research and qualitative content analysis. The subjects of survey research were 30 teachers and the case analysis objects were 12 epilogues of in-service teacher training. The mean of job implementation of southeast ITEC's in-service teacher training was 4.07 on a five-point scale. Teacher's perception on job implementation sub factors after one year completing in-service teacher training were as follows. The mean of enhancement factor was 4.39, usefulness factor was 4.11, utilization factor was 3.94, and retention factor was 3.82 on a five-point scale. The mean of enhancement factor and usefulness factor were relatively high level as compared with the mean of job implementation and the mean of utilization factor and retention factor were relatively low level as compared with the mean of job implementation. The results of qualitative content analysis about 12 epilogues of in-service teacher training, some significant instances were deducted that representable retention, usefulness, utilization, and enhancement factors directly and indirectly.
