  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the level of background knowledge and the metacognition supporting tool (MST) on the learning activities and outcomes in a web problem based learning environment from the theoretical perspectives of PBL (problem-based-learning) in the Web and metacognition. Results suggest that the level of learners' background knowledge could play a slight role in problem oriented learning activities. This was because learning tasks were characterized by ill-structured problems in Web-based problem learning and this sort of learning might have been a somewhat newer experience for the selected students. Providing MST for learners' PBL activities, however, was highly beneficial for learners who practice PBL in Web based learning environments. In addition, for PBL outcomes, variables like problem solution reporting documents. the use of MST had a more positive effect on the lower level learners' background knowledge than the higher level learners'.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify elementary school teachers' perceptions, practices, and background factors related to introducing students' everyday experience in science teaching process. The participants of this study were four elementary school teachers who have different features such as major, teaching period, gender, growth area, and age. The data was collected through semi-constructed and in-depth interviews. The results of the research are as follows: Teachers mostly used students' everyday experience during the introduction phase of science lessons for the purpose of motivation. They hold a positive view of using students' everyday experience during science lessons and thought that science teaching needs to actively use more of students' everyday experience, while in actual practice they disregarded or only passively introduced students' everyday experience. The various background factors found to affect teachers' practice are as follows: positive memory on their science class; educational experience of their own children; their own childhood environment; their learning style; their insufficient knowledge or enthusiasm; perceived educational value of everyday life in science education; teacher's duties; importance of students' achievement; difficulty in guiding experiment; reaction of students on introducing everyday experience; characteristics of science textbook and teacher's guidebook; lack of lesson time; realization of national common basic education; characteristics of their students; demands from parents or students; effect of introducing everyday experience. In addition, we found that the teachers behave not in accordance with what they thought due to external factors related to their profession and that, for a more active use of students' everyday experience in their teaching, teachers need support from textbooks and teachers' guidebooks.

  • This study examines the relationships between TMT's characteristics - international education background ratio, international job experience ratio, international related professionals ratio- and the degree of firm's internationalization. It also examines the moderating effect of independent board on those relationships. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the ratio of TMT's foreign job experience is positively related to firm's internationalization. On the other hand, both international education background ratio and international related professionals ratio do not significantly related to firm's internationalization. Regarding the moderating effects. independent boards weaken the positive relationship between TMT's foreign education background ratio and firm's internationalization. Whereas they strengthen the positive relationship between TMT's international education background ratio and firm's internationalization. The findings of this study imply that Chinese firms should consider the interaction effects between the TMT and board on their decisions of internationalization.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between the self-identity and career maturity of middle school students in Gyeongnam province. For this purpose following questions were formulated. First. Are there statistically significant differences in middle school students' self-identity by their background variables? Second, Are there statistically significant differences in middle school students' career maturity by their background variables? Third, How is the relationship between self-identity and career maturity? Fourth, How are the influences of background variables and self-identity on students' career maturity? Self-identity and career maturity were measured over 551 9th grade students(317 male and 234 female students) in Changwon, Jinju, Geoje, Hadong, Sancheong, and Tongreong areas. Frequency analysis, Cronbach'$\alpha$, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression were used for statistical analysis. The results indicated that: 1. There were statistically significant differences in self-identity by mother's educational level, student's GPA, and economical background; 2. There were statistically significant differences in career maturity by student's gender, mother's educational level, and student's GPA; 3. There was 3. There were high static correlation between self-identity and career maturity and its subordinate items; 4. Sex and self-identity and its sub-items of students' independence, self-receptiveness, firm future goals, goal-orientation, intimacy have relative influences on career maturity.

Interprofessional education means that two or more professions learn with, from and about other to improve collaboration and the quality of healthcare. The University of British Columbia established the College of Health Disciplines in 2001 to examine the merits of interprofessional health education. The objective of this study was to review UBC's interprofessional health education and to introduce the theoretical framework of interprofessional education for collaborative patient-centered practice. Methods: This study was conducted with the materials relevant to the interprofessional education. We reviewed the journals and Web site for this subject and we obtained interview data from administrators in the University of British Columbia, College of Health Disciplines. Results: We introduced interdisciplinary education for collaborative patient-centered practice model. It is assumed valuable model in preparing the interprofessional education as well as theoretical framework for implementation. We preseuted the example for interprofessional education of the College of Health Disciplines, University of British Columbia. Conclusion: We need to introduce the interprofessional education at the health care departments of University or College in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the questions of earth science knowledge presented in elementary science textbooks. In group activities, The questions were created by preservice elementary teachers assuming that they were teaching the earth science knowledge in science education classes at university of education. Types, frequencies, and sources of the cognitive background knowledge of the questions were analyzed. The results demonstrated the followings. First, types, concentrations, and sources of the cognitive background knowledge of the questions were different depending on the domains of earth science. Specifically, in astronomy domain, the frequencies and concentrations of the questions showed different trends compared with other domains in its individual lessons. It suggests that instructional strategies that reflected the difference found in each lessons be appropriately designed and used. Second, it was found that 'schools' was the most dominant sources of the cognitive background. 'Friends' were also found to be very important sources, thus promoting students' interaction with their peers would become an important strategy in science teaching. It was also found that mass media such as 'internet' and 'TV' were roughly rated the same as 'schools' which illustrated that mass media could be utilized in science instruction. Third, since types, concentrations, and frequencies of the questions were diverse in the lessons of units, it is suggested that diverse instruction strategies also be taken into account as an educational approach in teaching the subjects in teacher education.

  • The objective of present study is to compare the similarities and differences between the two projects and extract implications for the improvement of higher education quality in other countries. To meet this objective, The study compared and analyzed "The Project of Higher Education Quality Development and Educational Reform of China" and "Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme" of government of India. by using the method of literature research, contents analysis and comparison analysis, this paper employed multi-source materials to examine background and targets, measures and outcomes, deficiencies and future direction of these two projects, and compared the similarities and diversities on each matters by utilizing secondary data from national surveys, government statistics, databases, and third-party agencies. The findings led us to suggest that the well-coordinated and standardized administrative system is a primary guarantee for ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme, and sharing educational resources among higher education institutions is an effective means for promoting their joint development. The improvement of higher education quality relies on the reform of the entire higher education system and the efficient networking between higher education institutions.

  • There is lack of social awareness on the importance of natural environments and effective operating systems for environmental education in natural settings. In this study, the environmental education systems of three U. S. National Parks in the State of Washington were investigated in order to examine the potential of applying the environmental education systems to the Korean situation. To this end, the authors made field trips to the Mount Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park and North Cascades National Park and interviewed the field environmental education professionals. There is one common theme of environmental education shared by the three National Parks, that is the National Parks are open to the students and ordinary people as classrooms for environmental education. All of the three National Parks were supported by regional societies of environmental conservation and education. However, the contents of the approaches to the environmental education of each National Park were different to each reflecting the differences of the natural environment and cultural background. This implies that environmental education systems should be designed based on the characteristics of the local environment and cultural tradition, although advanced environmental education systems of foreign countries would be useful for developing our own environmental education systems.
