The purpose of this study was to explore ways to help improve adolescents' happiness by exploring the influences of emphatic ability and family strengths on happiness. This subjects were 514 middle school students living in Gwangju. Data were collected from self-report questionnaires and analyzed with SPSS 22.0 program. The major findings were as follows; First, the adolescents' emphatic ability('viewpoint', 'identity', 'emphatic interest'), family strengths('family respect and affection', 'role sharing and problem solving', 'communication and bonds', 'financial stability') and happiness scores were higher than the median(3.00). Emphatic ability('viewpoint', 'identity', 'emphatic interest', 'personal suffering') and family strengths('communication and bonds') showed significant difference according to gender. Second, the adolescents' happiness was influenced by 'family respect and affection', 'role sharing and problem solving', 'financial stability', 'personal suffering', 'identity', and 'emphatic interest'. Adolescents' happiness was explained about 39% by these variables. In other words, the higher family respect and affection, both higher role sharing and problem solving and higher financial stability, with lower personal suffering and higher identity and higher emphatic interest showed the higher happiness. These findings demonstrate the emphatic ability and family strengths in adolescents influence on the level of happiness. As such, in order to improve the happiness of adolescents, it is necessary to energize those programs focus on the forming healthy family relationships and to design finance assistance programs that could attempt to minimise financial gap. Additionally, it is necessary to develop programs aimed to enhance emphatic ability and continue such programs in homes as well as at schools. Finally, it is necessary to implement curriculum that may improve family strengths and emphatic ability, which have influenced on the happiness in adolescents. Since the subject "Technology & Home Economics" helps to enhance family strengths, emphatic ability and eventually amplifies the happiness, it is necessary to expand and reinforce it as well as to make it a mandatory subject.
As computational thinking has been noted as an important competency worldwide, SW education was introduced in the 2015 revised curriculum, and SW education has been applied to the curriculum from 2018. However, in a poor educational environment, the educationally underprivileged class is in the blind spot of SW education and is not receiving systematic SW education. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of conducting a non-face-to-face SW online education program for 267 underprivileged elementary school students in education at a time when non-face-to-face online education was being conducted through the COVID-19 mass infectious disease. As a result of conducting the computational thinking ability test, which abstraction, problem decomposition, algorithm, automation, and data processing, before and after education, the overall score of computational thinking and the score of all five factors were statistically significantly increased(p<0.001). Among the five factors, there was the highest score improvement in data processing score. These results suggest that the non-face-to-face SW online education program is effective in improving the computational thinking ability of elementary school students from the educational underprivileged class.

Line graphs are frequently used to communicate data and basic concepts in classroom activities, Science teachers often assume that students are able to interpret the symbolic meaning of the graphs, but such an assumption is not based on sufficient evidence, The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of graphing ability to science-process skills and academic achievement of high school students: With regard to science-process skills, graphing ability was found to have a slight correlation with science-process skills (.41). Among the sub-skills of the science-process, graphing ability was seen to have a relatively high correlation with basic science-process skills such as 'measuring', 'inferring', 'predicting', while having relatively low correlation with integrated science-process skills such as 'formulating hypothesis' and 'generalization', With regard to academic achievement, graphing ability appeared to have no correlation with academic achievement (.06). Hence, a correlation between graphing ability and science-process skills was proved. It can also be concluded that improving graphing ability will greatly support students with their science study and, therefore, organized efforts and efficient educational methods should be developed in order to overcome the insufficient graphing ability among high school students.

Most previous studies on programming learning effect is limited to measuring the enhancement degree of creativity and problem solving ability. This study is to find out indexes related to programming ability, other than creativity and problem solving ability by the specialty-aptitude test(SAT) in the elementary school. For this, 4th grade elementary students took LOGO programming class and the achievement test. As a result, among 4 regions of SAT, all five indexes of intellectual ability is highly related to programming ability, indicating that students with high intelligence rather than creativity have higher programming ability and that for our experiment settings the reverse of the previous result stating that programming education positively affects the development of problem solving ability and creativity does not hold.

Purpose: This study aimed to grasp the correlation between communication ability, empathy, and interpersonal relations among nursing students, and to explore the mediating effect of empathy on the relation between communication and interpersonal relation in nursing students. Methods: Participants were 209 college students in the Department of Nursing at two universities. The data collection period was from October 1, 2019 to November 1, 2019. The questionnaire consisted of measuring tools for general characteristics, communication ability, interpersonal relation and empathy. SPSS/23.0 program was used. The analysis used descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, and Sobel's tests. Results: The communication ability was nursing major satisfaction (t=8.25, p<.001), and last year's average grade (t=7.29, p=.001). Interpersonal relationships showed significant differences in gender (t=2.51, p=.013) and nursing major satisfaction (t=10.99, p<.001). Communication ability and empathy (r=.37, p<.001), communication ability and interpersonal relation (r=.77, p<.001), empathy and interpersonal relation (r=.43, p<.001) showed a significant static correlation. In communication ability and interpersonal relation, empathy had a partial mediating effect (Z=2.97, p<.001), and explanatory power was 62%. Conclusion: To improve the communication ability and interpersonal relation of nursing students, it is necessary to develop a personalized and empathy-enhanced education program for each grade.
This study investigated the effect of the environmental issue analysis instruction on the decision making ability of middle school students. A pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The participants for the research were 288 1st grade male students in middle school in Seoul, the environmental issue analysis lesson group consisted of 142 members and the non-environmental education group consisted of 146 members. The cognitive level of the students were divided into three groups-concrete, transition, formal-as the result of GALT test. Students take issue analysis lessons during 6 weeks, one lesson per a week. Students had studied through worksheets reconstructed and developed by researcher on basis of issue analysis suggested by Ramsey et al. (1997). The results of the research were followings: After lesson for environmental issue analysis, all of the students were improved in decision-making ability regardless of cognitive level (p<.05). Especially, decision-making ability of the transition group students was improved to a high degree. Scores of searching relevant information, generation of alternatives, identification of values for selection criteria, the evaluation of alternatives' merits and demerits, prediction of consequence were increased in experimental group (p<.05). But the ability of selection of alternatives according to value was not reached statistically meaningful improvement. The decision-making ability of the control group students was not improved but ability of selection of alternatives, the evaluation of consequence were increased (p<.05).
The purpose of this study is to confirm the influences of learner-centered instruction on learners' achievement and reason ability. In order to accomplish them, the fraction unit and the polygonal unit in the fourth grade were implemented with teaching methods and materials suitable for learner-centered mathematics instruction. Some conclusions could be drawn from the results as follows: First, learner-centered mathematics instruction has a more positive effect on learning of learned knowledge and generating unlearned knowledge in the experimental period than teacher-centered instructions. Second, learner-centered instruction makes an influence of low learning ability on getting achievement positively. Third, as the experimental treatment is repeated, learner-centered instruction has a positive effect on students' reasoning ability. The reasoning ability of students showed a difference in the comparison between the experimental group and the comparative group, and within the experimental group, there was a positive effect of the extension of the positive reasoning ability. Fourth, it can be estimated that the development of students' reasoning ability interchangeably affected their generation test results.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding on the primary school students' scientific creative problem solving ability, science process skills and attitude toward science class. To verify this research problem, the subject of this study was fifth-grade students selected from four classes of M elementary school located in Busan city. For four months, the experimental group of 51 students was taught using the "scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding". The control group also of 53 students was taught in normal classes which used a text-book. All students were given pre and post test to verify the effects of scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding on the primary school students' scientific creative problem solving ability, science process skills and attitude toward science class. The results from this study are as the following. First, the scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding were effective in scientific creative problem solving ability among the primary school students. It is possibly because in the process where one student compare his/her own thoughts with the others' ones and discuss them. Second, the scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding were effective in science process skills among the primary school students. Third, the scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding were effective in attitude toward science class. In conclusion, the scientific discussion classes focusing problem finding had positive effects on improvement of primary school students' scientific creative problem solving ability, science process skills and also could lead to a change in students' cognition about science class to a positive way. Therefore, the scientific discussion class focusing problem finding is hopefully to be provided as an effective instructive strategy of science class in school in the future.
The purpose of this study is to develop a descriptive paper test item which can evaluate elementary school students' HGA (scientific Hypothesis Generating Ability) and to propose a counting formula that can easily assess student's HGA objectively and quantitatively. To make the test item can possibly evaluate all the students from 6th graders to 3rd graders, the 'rabbit's ear' item is developed. Developed test item was distributed to four different elementary schools in Seoul. Total 280 students who were in the 6th grade solved the item. All the students' reponses to the item were analyzed. Based on the analyzed data evaluation factors and evaluation criteria are extracted to design a Hypothesis Generating ability Quotient (HGQ). As the result 'Explican's Degree of Likeness' and 'Hypothesis' Degree of Explanation' are chosen as evaluation factors. Also precedent evaluation criteria were renewed. At first, Explican's Degree of Likeness evaluation criterion was turned four levels into three levels and each content of evaluation criterion is also modified. Secondly, new evaluation factor 'Hypothesis' Degree of Explanation' was developed as combined three different evaluation criteria, 'level of explican', 'number of explican' and 'structure of explican'. This evaluation factor was designed to assess how the suggested hypothesis can elaborately explain the cause of one phenomenon. Newly designed evaluation factors and evaluation criteria can assess HGA more in detail and reduce the scoring discordant through the markers. Lastly, Developed counting formula is much more simple than precedent Kwon's equation for evaluating the Hypothesis Explanation Quotient. So it could help easily distinguish one student's scientific hypothesis generating ability.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference between using computers for an Information Literacy Abilities of Young Children(ILAYC) and development of the ILAYC, with regard to following factors: computer use at home, learning in educational facilities for early childhood, and parents' recognition toward computer-assisted education. The data were obtained from random sampling of 4-year old children in educational facilities for early childhood located in J city. The research was conducted in order to measure ILAYC, using the questionnaire for teachers from September 3 to 27, 2009. The t-test to investigate computer utilization ability and information literacy ability for young children revealed that the ILAYC was not significantly influenced by their computer use at home, while the ILAYC varied with learning in educational facilities and parents' recognition toward computer-assisted education. These are resulted from parents' different recognition toward computer-assisted education when they select an educational facility for early childhood.
