The effects of interaction between concrete-gypsum interface and edge crack on the failure behavior of the specimens in senicircular bend (SCB) test were studied in the laboratory and also simulated numerically using the discrete element method. Some quarter circular specimens of gypsum and concrete with 5 cm radii and hieghts were separately prepared. Then the semicircular testing specimens were made by attaching one gypsum and one concrete sample to one another using a special glue and one edge crack is produced (in the interface) by do not using the glue in that part of the interface. The tensile strengths of concrete and gypsum samples were separately measured as 2.2 MPa and 1.3 MPa, respectively. during all testing performances a constant loading rate of 0.005 mm/s were stablished. The proposed testing method showed that the mechanism of failure and fracture in the brittle materials were mostly governed by the dimensions and number of discontinuities. The fracture toughnesses of the SCB samples were related to the fracture patterns during the failure processes of these specimens. The tensile behaviour of edge notch was related to the number of induced tensile cracks which were increased by decreasing the joint length. The fracture toughness of samples was constant by increasing the joint length. The failure process and fracture pattern in the notched semi-circular bending specimens were similar for both methods used in this study (i.e., the laboratory tests and the simulation procedure using the particle flow code (PFC2D)).

In the present work, the main features of primary vortices and the vorticity concentrations downstream of vortex bursting in crossflow plane of a delta wing with a sweep angle of Λ=70° were investigated under the variation of the sideslip angles, β. For the pre-review of flow structures, dye visualization was conducted. In connection with a qualitative observation, a quantitative flow analysis was performed by employing Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The sideslip angles, β were varied with four different angles, such as 0°, 4°, 12°, and 20° while angles of attack, α were altered between 25° and 35°. This study mainly focused on the instantaneous flow features sequentially located at different crossflow planes such as x/C=0.6, 0.8 and 1.0. As a summary, time-averaged and instantaneous non-uniformity of turbulent flow structures are altered considerably resulting in non-homogeneous delta wing surface loading as a function of the sideslip angle. The vortex bursting location on the windward side of the delta wing advances towards the leading-edge point of the delta wing. The trajectory of the primary vortex on the leeward side slides towards sideways along the span of the delta wing. Besides, the uniformity of the lift coefficient, CL over the delta wing plane was severely affected due to unbalanced distribution of buffet loading over the same plane caused by the variation of the sideslip angle, β. Consequently, dissimilarities of the leading-edge vortices result in deterioration of the mean value of the lift coefficient, CL.

In this study, an experimental study was performed to evaluate the concrete breakout strength of cast-in-place(CIP) anchors in cracked concrete under static shear loading. The CIP anchors involved in this study were 30mm in diameter with an edge distance of 150mm and an embedment length of 240mm. The experiment was carried out for two specimens in uncracked concrete and three specimens in cracked concrete orthogonal and parallel to the direction of shear loading, respectively. Compared to the uncracked concrete specimen, cracked specimen orthogonal to the direction of shear loading showed no reduction in the concrete breakout strength and that parallel to the load direction about 91% strength which corresponds to 84% of uncracked concrete strength defined in ACI 318-11. Therefore, the experimental results showed smaller decrease in the shear resistance of CIP anchors in cracked concrete than that specified in ACI code which account for 71% strength of uncracked concrete in cracked concrete.
This paper is an experimental and numerical research works about the effects of the b earing capacity of sloped rubble mound on the density of rubble mound and the position of footing. Centrifuge model tests were performed to investigate the bearing capacity of rubble m ound by changing the density of rubble mound and the location of loading in forms of s trip loading to simulate the caisson. Materials of rubble mound used in the model tests were crushed rocks having similar value of uniformity coefficient to the value in field. Two different relative densities of 80% and 90% were prepared during tests. The dimens ions of centrifuge model were trapezoidal shape of model mound having the bottom wid th of mound, 30cm and height of mound, 10cm. Gravity level applied during the centrif uge test was 50G. Surcharge loading in the forms of strip loading was applied on the t op of the sloped model mound. Tests were carried out by changing the position of loadi ng. The rigid model footing was located in the center of top of the model rubble mound and the edge of model footing was at the crest of mound. Test results were analyzed by using the limit equilibrium methods proposed by Meyer hof(1957) and Bowles(1982) and the numerical approach with FLAC being available com mercially software. For the numerical estimations with FLAC, the rubble mound was si mulated with the constitutive relationship of Mohr-Coulomb elasto-plastic model.

In this study, an experimental study was performed to evaluate the shear resistance of cast-in-place(CIP) anchors reinforced with hairpin and stirrup bars under static and dynamic loads. The reinforcement was developed using D6 bars, and the anchors were installed with 20mm diameter and 120mm edge distance. Three tests were conducted for each type of reinforced anchor under static and dynamic shear load with a pulsating frequency of 1 Hz, respectively. It was found that the strength of hairpin-reinforced anchor was affected by the concrete cover and the dynamic tests showed no capacity reduction of anchors compared with static tests. The stirrup-reinforced anchor showed little increase of resistance compared with unreinforced anchor and the resistance under dynamic loading showed nearly same strength by static loading.
The numerical investigations have been carried out on reinforced concrete slab against blast loading to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the finite element based numerical models using commercial package ABAQUS. The response of reinforced concrete slab have been studied against the influence of weight of TNT, standoff distance, boundary conditions, influence of air blast and surface blast. The results thus obtained from simulations were compared with the experiments available in literature. The inelastic behavior of concrete and steel reinforcement bar has been incorporated through concrete damage plasticity model and Johnson-cook models available in ABAQUS were presented. The predicted results through numerical simulations of the present study were found in close agreement with the experimental results. The damage mechanism and stress response of target were assessed based on the intensity of deformations, impulse velocity, von-Mises stresses and damage index in concrete. The results indicate that the standoff distance has great influence on the survivability of RC slab against blast loading. It is concluded that the velocity of impulse wave was found to be decreased from 17 to 11 m/s when the mass of TNT is reduced from 12 to 6 kg. It is observed that the maximum stress in the concrete was found to be in the range of 15 to $20N/mm^2$ and is almost constant for given charge weight. The slab with two short edge discontinuous end condition was found better and it may be utilised in designing important structures. Also it is observed that the deflection in slab by air blast was found decreased by 60% as compared to surface blast.

PURPOSES : In this study, a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) model for airport concrete pavement was developed using the commercial program ABAQUS. Users can select an analysis method and set the range of input parameters to reflect actual conditions such as environmental loading. METHODS : The geometrical shape of the FEA model was chosen by considering the concrete pavement located in the third-stage construction site of Incheon International Airport. Incompatible eight-node elements were used for the FEA model. Laboratory test results for the concrete specimens fabricated at the construction site were used as material properties of the concrete slab. The material properties of the cement-treated base suggested by the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) manual were used as those of the lean concrete subbase. In addition, preceding studies and pavement evaluation reports of Incheon International Airport were referred for the material properties of asphalt base and subgrade. The kinetic friction coefficient between the concrete slab and asphalt base acquired from a preceding study was used for the friction coefficient between the layers. A nonlinear temperature gradient according to slab depth was used as an input parameter of environmental loading, and a quasistatic method was used to analyze traffic loading. The average load transfer efficiency obtained from an Heavy falling Weight Deflectomete(HWD) test was converted to a spring constant between adjacent slabs to be used as an input parameter. The reliability of the FEA model developed in this study was verified by comparing its analysis results to those of the FEAFAA model. RESULTS : A series of analyses were performed for environmental loading, traffic loading, and combined loading by using both the model developed in this study and the FEAFAA model under the same conditions. The stresses of the concrete slab obtained by both analysis models were almost the same. An HWD test was simulated and analyzed using the FEA model developed in this study. As a result, the actual deflections at the center, mid-edge, and corner of the slab caused by the HWD loading were similar to those obtained by the analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The FEA model developed in this study was judged to be utilized sufficiently in the prediction of behavior of airport concrete pavement.

Hollow center cracked disc (HCCD) in Brazilian test was modelled numerically to study the crack propagation in the pre-cracked disc. The pre-existing edge cracks in the disc models were considered to investigate the crack propagation and coalescence paths within the modelled samples. The effect of particle size on the hollow center cracked disc (HCCD) in Brazilian test were considered too. The results shows that Failure pattern is constant by increasing the ball diameter. Tensile cracks are dominant mode of failure. These crack initiates from notch tip, propagate parallel to loading axis and coalescence with upper model boundary. Number of cracks increase by decreasing the ball diameter. Also, tensile fracture toughness was decreased with increasing the particle size. In this research, it is tried to improve the understanding of the crack propagation and crack coalescence phenomena in brittle materials which is of paramount importance in the stability analyses of rock and concrete structures, such as the underground openings, rock slopes and tunnel construction.
In the present contribution, fracture resistance of U-notched GPPS members under mixed mode I/III loading conditions is assessed by using the Averaged Strain Energy Density (ASED) criterion. This criterion has been founded based on the ASED parameter averaged over a well-defined control volume embracing the notch edge. The validation of the theoretical criterion predictions is evaluated through comparing with the results of a series of mixed mode I/III fracture tests conducted on rectangular-shaped GPPS specimens weakened by a single edge U-notch. A recently developed apparatus for mixed mode I/III fracture experiments is employed for measuring the fracture loads of the specimens. The test samples are fabricated with different notch tip radii with the aim of evaluating the influence of this major feature of the U-notched components on the mixed mode I/III fracture behavior. It is shown that the onset of brittle fracture in U-notched GPPS specimens under various combinations of tension and out-of-plane shear can well be predicted by means of the ASED criterion.
Fatigue strength of the spot welded lap joint is considerably influenced by corrosive environments. Particularly, the chloride and the sulfide are most injurious to strength of the spot welded lap joint. Therefore, there is a need to evaluate its effect to corrosion fatigue strength for safe life design of spot welded structures. In order to evaluate their corrosion fatigue strength, corrosion fatigue tests on the spot welded lap joints of the uncoated and the coated high strength steel sheets were conducted in air and in 10% NaCl solution. Corrosion fatigue strength of the uncoated specimens were entirely lower than the coated one in NaCl solution, but those of the coated specimens in NaCl solution were lower than in air. And stress distribution in single spon welded lap joint subjected to tension-shear load was investigated by the finite element method. Using these results, we tried to evaluate corrosion fatgue strength of the various spot welded lap joints with maximum stress $\sigma_{max}$ at edge on loading side of the spot welded lap joint. We could find that corrosion fatigue strength could be quantitatively and systematically rearranged by $\sigma_{max}$.
