  • In this paper, we proposed a method using sub-edge information extracted through a hierarchical structure in the process of generating super resolution based on a single image. In order to improve the quality of super resolution, it is necessary to clearly distinguish the shape of each area while clearly expressing the boundary area in the image. The proposed method assists edge information of the image in deep learning based super resolution method to create an improved super resolution result while maintaining the structural shape of the boundary region, which is an important factor determining the quality in the super resolution process. In addition to the group convolution structure for performing deep learning based super resolution, a separate hierarchical edge accumulation extraction process based on high-frequency band information for sub-edge extraction is proposed, and a method of using it as an auxiliary feature is proposed. Experimental results showed about 1% performance improvement in PSNR and SSIM compared to the existing super resolution.

  • In this paper, we propose a content-based face retrieval system which can retrieve a face based on a facial feature region. Instead of using keyword such as a resident registration number or name for a query, the our system uses a facial image as a visual query. That is, we recognize a face based on a specific feature region including eyes, nose, and mouth. For this, we extract the feature region using the color information based on HSI color model and the edge information from wavelet transformed image, and then recognize the feature region using neural network. The proposed system is implemented on client/server environment based on Oracle DBMS for a large facial image database. In the experiment with 150 various facial images, the proposed method showed about 88.3% recognition rate.

  • In this paper, I make use of a Multi-Channel skin color model with Hue, Cb, Cg using Red, Blue, Green channel altogether which remove bight component as being consider the characteristics of skin color to do modeling more effective to a facial skin color for extracting a facial area. 1 used efficient HOLA(Higher order local autocorrelation function) using 26 feature vectors to obtain both feature vectors of a facial area and the edge image extraction using Harr wavelet in image which split a facial area. Calculated feature vectors are used of date for the facial recognition through learning of neural network It demonstrate improvement in both the recognition rate and speed by proposed algorithm through simulation.

  • It is very important to generate a simplified model from a complex 3D character in computer game. We propose a new method of extracting feature lines from a 3D game character. Given an unstructured 3D character model containing texture information, we use model feature map (MFM), which is a 2D map that abstracts the variation of texture and curvature in the 3D character model. The MFM is created from both a texture map and a curvature map, which are produced separately by edge-detection to locate line features. The MFM can be edited interactively using standard image-processing tools. We demonstrate the technique on several data sets, including, but not limited to facial character.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time face detection and recognition system by using skin color informations, geometrical feature vectors of face, and facial angle informations from color face image. The proposed algorithm improved face region extraction efficiency by using skin color informations on the HSI color coordinate and face edge information. And also, it improved face recognition efficiency by using geometrical feature vectors of face and facial angles from the extracted face region image. In the experiment, the proposed algorithm shows more improved recognition efficiency as well as face region extraction efficiency than conventional methods.

  • Facial feature detection is a fundamental function in the field of computer vision such as security, bio-metrics, 3D modeling, and face recognition. There are many algorithms for the function, active shape model is one of the most popular local texture models. This paper addresses issues related to face detection, and implements an efficient extraction algorithm for extracting the facial feature points to use on iOS platform. In this paper, we extend the original ASM algorithm to improve its performance by four modifications. First, to detect a face and to initialize the shape model, we apply a face detection API provided from iOS CoreImage framework. Second, we construct a weighted local structure model for landmarks to utilize the edge points of the face contour. Third, we build a modified model definition and fitting more landmarks than the classical ASM. And last, we extend and build two-dimensional profile model for detecting faces within input images. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on experimental test set containing over 500 face images, and found to successfully extract facial feature points, clearly outperforming the original ASM.

  • This paper introduces a new model based method for facial expression recognition that uses facial grid angles as feature space. In order to be able to recognize the six main facial expression, proposed method uses a grid approach and therefore it establishes a new feature space based on the angles that each gird's edge and vertex form. The way taken in the paper is robust against several affine transformations such as translation, rotation, and scaling which in other approaches are considered very harmful in the overall accuracy of a facial expression recognition algorithm. Also, this paper demonstrates the process that the feature space is created using angles and how a selection process of feature subset within this space is applied with Wrapper approach. Selected features are classified by SVM, 3-NN classifier and classification results are validated with two-tier cross validation. Proposed method shows 94% classification result and feature selection algorithm improves results by up to 10% over the full set of feature.

  • For privacy protection, we propose a vehicle license plate region detection method in road view image served from portal site. Because vehicle license plate regions in road view images have different feature depending on distance, long distance vehicle license plate regions are not detected by feature of low resolution. Therefore, we suggest a method to detect short distance vehicle license plate regions by edge feature and long distance vehicle license plate regions using MSER feature. And then, we select candidate region of vehicle license plate region from detected region of each method, because the number of the vehicle license plate has a structural feature, we used it to detect the final vehicle license plate region. As the experiment result, we got a recall rate of 93%, precision rate of 75%, and F-Score rate of 80% in various road view images.

  • In this paper we propose an object similarity matching method based on shape characteristics of an object in an image. The proposed method extracts edge points from edges of objects and generates a log polar histogram with respect to each edge point to represent the relative placement of extracted points. It performs the matching in such a way that it compares polar histograms of two edge points sequentially along with edges of objects, and uses a well-known k-NN(nearest neighbor) approach to retrieve similar objects from a database. To verify the proposed method, we've compared it to an existing Shape-Context method. Experimental results reveal that our method is more accurate in object matching than the existing method, showing that when k=5, the precision of our method is 0.75-0.90 while that of the existing one is 0.37, and when k=10, the precision of our method is 0.61-0.80 while that of the existing one is 0.31. In the experiment of rotational transformation, our method is also more robust compared to the existing one, showing that the precision of our method is 0.69 while that of the existing one is 0.30.

  • This paper describes a robust landmark matching method to reduce ambiguity of candidate of landmark. General robot system acquires the candidate of landmark through vision sensor in outdoor environment. Our robot uses the omnidirectional vision system to get all around the view. Thus, the robot obtains more candidates of landmark than the conventional vision system. To obtain the candidates of landmark, robot uses the two types of feature. They are vertical edge and merged region of vertical edges. The former is to extract the vertical line of building, street lamp, etc. The latter is to reduce ambiguity of vertical edge in similar region. It is difficult to match the candidates of landmark...
