  • In this paper, we propose new unsharp masking technique based on the multiscale gradient planes. The unsharp masking technique is implemented as a high-pass filter and improves the sharpness of degraded images. However, the conventional unsharp masking enhances the noise component simultaneously. To reduce the noise influence, we introduce the edge information from the difference of the gradient values between two consecutive scales of the multiscale gradient. The multiscale gradient indicates the presence of image edges as the ratio between the gradients between two different scales by its multiscale nature. The noise reduction of the proposed method does not depend on the variance of images and noises. In experiment, we demonstrate enhancement results for blurred noisy images and compare with the conventional cubic unsharp masking technique.

  • The conventional intensity histogram does not indicate edge information, which is important in the perception of image contrast. In this paper, we propose a multi-cue histogram (MCH) to represent a collaborative distribution of both the intensity and the edges of an image. Based on the MCH, if the intensity values have high frequency and a large gradient magnitude, they are spread into a larger dynamic range. Otherwise, the intensity values are not strongly stretched. As a result, image details, such as edges and textures, can be enhanced while artifacts and noise can be prevented, as demonstrated in the experimental results.

  • This paper is a study on the 3D infrared image enhancement with Stereoscopic algorithm on still infrared image. The adapted stereo method is that the depth is extracted by comparison with right-left image, and the enhanced 3D infrared image by matching based on feature is realized. As the result of experiment this method forced the more smooth edge lines of 3D infrared images.

  • An image enhancement method using modified anisotropic diffusion filter is proposed in this paper. It employs sensor noise estimation and scale space methods based on the minimum reliable scale. Then the anisotropic diffusion filter is modified by the calculated critical value function and local gradient. Through simulation, it is verified that the proposed algorithm has the capability of little or no noise amplification in homogenous region as well as superior edge enhancement.

  • This paper presents an algorithm that extracts road lane's specific information by using HSI color information and performance enhancement of lane detection base on vision processing of drive assist. As a preprocessing for high speed lane detection, the optimal extraction of region of interest for lane boundary(ROI-LB) can be processed to reduction of detection region in which high speed processing is enabled and it also increases reliabilities by deleting edges those are misrecognized. Road lane is extracted with simultaneous processing of noise reduction and edge enhancement using the Laplacian filter, the reliability of feature extraction can be increased for various road lane patterns. Since noise can be removed by using saturation and brightness of HSI color model. Also it searches for the road lane's color information and extracts characteristics. The real road experimental results are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • An image resolution enhancement is mainly utilized as pre-processing technique for various image processing application. It requires to decrease image quality deterioration such as blurring. In this paper, we propose an image resolution enhancement algorithm using low level interpolation. In the proposed algorithm, we calculate an error using low level interpolation, estimate an error image from the calculated error. The estimated error image is added interpolated high resolution image, it become lastly reconstruction image. Our experiments obtained the average PSNR about 1dB which is improved results better than conventional method for sensitive image quality. Also, subjective image quality with edge region is more clearness. The proposed method may be helpful for applications in various multimedia systems such as image restoration.

  • The accuracy of input coordinates of ground control points and check points affects great influences to the results of ground coordinate computation in using SPOT digital image data. The original SPOT images displayed on CRT are not usually adequate for identifying the object features and determining the point positioning. Hence, appropriate image processing techniques such as contrast enhancement, subpixel interpolation, edge enhancement, and spatial filtering are needed. In this study, the principles of digital image processing needed for accurate three dimensional positioning and spectral characteristic analysis are investigated. The algorithms for the actual applications are developed and programmed. And using the developed image processing software, some SPOT P-mode and XS-mode images are merged into the SPOT P+XS, the high-resolution color composite image.

  • Reflective polarizers can be used as luminance enhancement films for LCD backlights via the polarization recycling process. The optical performances of a wire grid polarizer (WGP) as a reflective polarizer adopted in edge-lit backlights were investigated by luminance evaluation and a time-domain simulation technique. The results were compared to those of a commercial dielectric multilayer film. The luminance gain factor of WGP was smaller than that of the multilayer film by 18%. This was attributed to a much larger internal loss of WGP due to light absorption by metal wires. The internal losses of both reflective polarizers and the polarization conversion efficiency of the backlight were obtained numerically based on a phenomenological model. The optical performances of WGP were optimized by using a time-domain simulation technique. The luminance gain increased and was found to become comparable to, but slightly less than the case of the dielectric multilayer film with decreasing line width.
