A Study on the Effects of KORAIL's CSR on Customers' Reliability and Loyalty (철도공사의 사회적 책임이 고객신뢰와 충성도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purchasing behavior of consumers is related to service quality and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Therefore, CSR is recognized as an important factor in company strategies. This study determines the relationship between the CSR activities of KORAIL and the reuse intention and recommendation intention of the consumer. CSR is composed of economic, legal, philanthropic, ethical, and environmental responsibilities. In the results of the structural equation modeling analyses, legal responsibility and economic reliability affect the reliability of KORAIL and this reliability affects the customers' reliability and loyalty. This paper proposes a compliance program, wagon safety information, customized tour packages, and communication strategy that will increase customer's reliability and loyalty.

  • The objective of this study is to discuss damage to cargo caused by shipper's Liability. an analysis of the excepted perils of the carriers and the scope of marine insurance coverage reveals that the excepted perils of the carrier are covered by the most part by marine insurance. however damage to cargo caused by shipper's fault remains uncovered. Damage to cargo by insufficient packing is caused by the cargo owner's error or negligence, thus both the underwriter and the marine carrier are exmpted from responsibility. but a problem aries from the fact that there is no objective standard for full packaging. In order to solve these problems, it is required to specify the method of packaging for certain goods when making an individual agreement, so that the owner can be exmpted from responsibility for packaging conformed to the pertinent article.

  • Giving behavior promotes social solidarity and lessens social deprivations by voluntary practices to make better communities. Despite the increasing trend of giving in terms of participation and amount in Korean society, the giving culture has deeply rooted in charitable emotion based on compassion, still far from social solidarity. This paper attempts to identify giving behavior by investigating its characteristics and changes in its motives from the compassion-based social welfare to social responsibility and community solidarity, centering around 'Yellow envelope campaign' started in 2014 to support the living expenses and cost of litigation for the fired workers of Ssangyong Motors. By employing questionnaire survey and in-depth interview, it analyzes the horizontal relationships, reciprocal responsibility, social capital, and pursuit for conflict solution. Even though the campaign didn't change our society as a whole, but it cast the social questions on the birth of social empathy and solidarity.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to show whether there is a relationship between companies that promote CSR and hire indirectly as opposed to companies that only hire directly. Research results show that it is actually beneficial for the economy when companies implement the CSR, especially during times of economic recession. Methods: We have used data by collecting from the top 100 companies in Korea, which are the number of permanent employees, stock market registrations, companies that implemented the CSR, hiring directly and indirectly, etc., and analyzed them to carry out the regression analysis. Results: Research has shown that when companies implement the CSR and has many permanent employees, they also tend to hire employees indirectly. Conclusion: In the views of the whole economy, utilizing indirect hiring of employees can be a useful alternative, which can be accomplished by implementing CSR, and it must be recognized as the reason for producing more job opportunities within economies.

  • Purpose - This study highlights the inter-dependence between business and society. Various business strategies like Corporate Philanthropy and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are introduced to establish better relationship between business and society. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - This study presents a research model clarifying the role of Creating Shared Value (CSV) and its influence on overall corporate performance. Further, we reveal the mediating role of corporate trust generated by various mechanisms of economic and social values, leading to enhanced corporate performance. Results - The proposed research model addresses five different proposals indicating that, by incorporating CSV approaches, organizations can create both business and social values. These values help positively influence corporate trust, ultimately facilitating improvements in overall corporate performance. Conclusions - CSV is currently in its early stage; it is difficult to gather meaningful data to measure its performance. However, this study seeks to connect CSV with other important factors such as corporate trust. The proposed model can be a starting point for a more empirical and formal conceptualization of CSV along with other important links.

  • With the development of market economy, it has been a legislative trend to establish a system for vicarious liability of employers. China also established Tort Liability Law of People's Republic of China in 2009 and ruled responsibility of the employers for the acts for their employees through Art. 35. First, the employer's right to indemnity to an employee should be recognized, because employer's superintendence is much weak and economic power is similar between them. Second, an employer should take a responsibility for an unpaid employee as vicarious liability, because the Law did not exclude them from employees. Lastly, in case the Law conflicts with Interpretation of the Supreme People's Court on Certain Issues Concerning the Application of Law in Trying Cases Involving Compensation for Personal Damage, the Law should be regarded it has priority based on several related Principles. Regarding these matters, this study guides you to an analysis of vicarious liability of employers in China, benefits with a view to the perfection of the vicarious liability regime.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out what is the functional role of VTS in order to get the people concerned with marine traffic/transportation understand about VTS. VTS could be described as the essential risk management system in both cost effective on cost-benefit analysis and the sea space or time management at port, coastal environment. The important role of the VTS are those functions such as the decision making infrastructure, the passive/active safety measures at sea. VTS could not control/regulate marine traffic as strong as ATC(Air Traffic Control) owing to the marine traffic characters. However, the right and responsibility of VTS finally are belong to the master, pilot and mariners. For the benefit of the electronic technology development, VTS system also cloud be upgraded to communication system from information system. In connection with these system upgrading, the right and responsibility of VTS/staff should be supported by domestic legal system. The followings are presented for VTS to be effective. First, the cooperation and understanding of VTS between the peoples concerned with marine traffic/transportation are essential. Because they are all data supplier and also information consumers. Second, VTS staff/regulator should be selected, educated, trained accordingly as per their career, ability, quality, qualification, certification and etc. Third, the port reliability from VTS users depends on the factors such as economic interests, safety and effectiveness/efficiency of VTS.

Review of Corporate Social Responsibility Effects Studies

  • Purpose - In this study, previous CSR researches was reviewed to help understand the CSR effects, and offer suggestions for future research directions. Research design, data, and methodology - To achieve the purpose of this study, previous CSR effects related researches were reviewed based on stakeholder perspectives. Results - After reviewing, some limitations were found. First, most of the CSR related studies in the management area have focused on CSR effects on individual stakeholders such as the shareholder, the employee, and the consumer. Second, it was difficult to find studies on the management aspect of CSR from both an effective and efficient perspective. Conclusions - To overcome these limitations of previous studies, several studies need to be conducted in the future. First, CSR research must be expanded into B-to-B businesses. Few studies try to figure out the effect of CSR on B-to-B businesses but only suggest the effect of CSR on B-to-B business conceptually. Therefore, empirical study needs to be conducted about CSR to show business performance in the B-to-B market. Second, the process of CSR must be developed on how to improve CSRs' effectiveness and efficiency. Finally, a relationship between a company and individual stakeholders needs to be revised using stakeholders' multiple identities.

Political Connections and CSR Disclosures in Indonesia

  • This research seeks to provide evidence about how political connections, proxied by government ownership and the existence of politically connected board members, affect the extent of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures in Indonesian listed companies. This research uses the legitimacy theory as a basis for explaining management's motivation for disclosing its CSR. The sample consists of 131 firm-year observations from 38 non-financial public companies that published sustainability reports from 2013 to 2017. We measured the CSR disclosures using a disclosure checklist on the sustainability reports. We subsequently processed the data using a random effect (RE) linear regression. The result shows that CSR disclosures were greater in government-owned companies but lower in companies that have politically connected board members. The results support the legitimacy theory that the government intends to demonstrate legitimate national economic and political conditions by showing that government-owned companies are sustainable. However, CSR disclosures seem to have a substitutive relationship with the existence of politically connected board members, since those political connections may protect the company from public pressure and/or the risk of litigation, reducing the need for CSR disclosures. This research provides evidence that different types of political connections may have different impacts on corporate disclosures.

The Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility Activities on Investors' Heterogeneous Beliefs: A Study of Korea's Data Set

  • This study analyzes the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity on investors' heterogeneous beliefs. The hypothesis of this study is based on the conflicting effects of CSR activities on firm value and earning's quality. Investors' heterogeneous beliefs used in the empirical analysis of this study are trading volume, and CSR activity is measured by the KEJI Index (Korea Economic Justice Institute Index). This study performs an empirical analysis using regression analysis including control variables. CSR activities are found to have a positive relationship with trading volume. This is consistent regardless of the low and high accounting information (earning's quality). It can be interpreted that Korea's CSR activity acts as an incentive to increase investors' heterogeneous beliefs about target companies. In other words, it implies that the investor judges CSR activities negatively when evaluating firm value. This study could have a policy implication in that it analyzes how CSR activities affect investors' decision-making. In other words, this study analyzed CSR activities from the perspective of shareholders. Therefore, this study is expected to provide useful information for policymaking by regulatory agencies. In particular, its contribution is to presents data that CSR activities can be a negative factor in evaluating firm values.
