The data grid computing provides geographically distributed storage resources to solve computational problems with large-scale data. Unlike cache replacement policies in virtual memory or web-caching replacement, an optimal file replacement policy for data grids is the one of the important problems by the fact that file size is very large. The traditional file replacement policies such as LRU(Least Recently Used) LCB-K(Least Cost Beneficial based on K), EBR(Economic-based cache replacement), LVCT(Least Value-based on Caching Time) have the problem that they have to predict requests or need additional resources to file replacement. To solve theses problems, this paper propose SBR-k(Sized-based replacement-k) that replaces files based on file size. The results of the simulation show that the proposed policy performs better than traditional policies.

The proposed policy considers file size to reduce the number of files corresponding to a requested file rather than forecasting the uncertain future for replacement. The results of the simulation show that hit ratio was similar when the cache size was small, but the proposed policy was superior to traditional policies when the cache size was large.

This study deals with replacement analysis of deteriorated equipment for improving productivity of production system. Frequent breakdown of the deteriorated equipment causes a situation that reduces productivity such as low product quality, process delay, and repair cost. However, the replacement of new equipment will be required a high initial investment cost, so it is important to analysis the economic feasibility. Therefore, we analyze the effect of the production system due to the aging effect of the equipment and the feasibility of equipment replacement based on the economic analysis. The process flow, working time, logistics movement, etc. are analyzed in order to build the simulation modeling for a ship and land switchboard production system. Using numerical examples, the economic feasibility analysis of equipment replacement through replacement of existing deteriorated equipment and additional arrangement of new facilities is performed.
This paper studies the economic replacement method for production facilities which requires huge investment but are necessary for higher productivity and competability of products. That is, the general models for the decision of economic life of properties which minimizes the total costs throughout the usage life(Life cycle costs) are generated. Main factors which make influences for the decision of econmic life can be divided by three. These are the change of salvage value, repair and maintenance costs, and availability of production facilities with the passage of usage time. In this paper, the real world data for these three factors are collected and analyzed for the extraction of representative standard forms with the passage of time. And general models for economic replacement methods and optimal usage terms are presented through tables with the combination of the standard forms of these three main factors.

Flow carrying capacity of water distribution systems is getting reduced by deterioration of pipes in the systems. The objective of this paper is to present a managerial decision-making model for the rehabilitation of water distribution systems with a mininum cost. The decisions made by the model also satisfy the requirements for discharge and pressure at demanding nodes in the systems. Replacement cost, pipe break repair cost, and pumping cost are considered in the economic evaluation of the decision along with the break rate and the interest rate to determine the optimal replacement time for each pipe. Then, the hydraulic integrity of the water distribution system is checked for the decision by a pipe network simulator, KYPIPE, if discharge and pressure requirements are satisfied. In case the system does not satisfy the hydraulic requirements, the decision made for the optimal replacement time is revised until the requirments are satisfied. The model is well applied to an existing water distribution system, the Seoul Metropolitan Water Supply System (1st Phase). The results show that the decisions for the replacement time determined by the economic analysis are accepted as optimal and hydraulic integrity of the system is in good condition.

The estimation of lifetimes are examined when the distribution of lifetimes are Weibull. It is assumed that, due to physical restrictions and/or economic requirements, the lifetimes are investigated only at certain time intervals during the test period with 'mixed replacement' experiment, even though it is well known that 'with replacement' experiment produces better accuracy than 'without replacement' one. The maximum likelihood estimators are derived through the iterative method like as Lawless(1982). Also Cramer-Rao lower bounds are found as the asymptotic variances of the estimates.
The purposes of this study were to explore the rural women's labor by measuring labor value economically. To achieve the purpose, this study applied four methods : replacement cost method individual function, replacement cost method generalist, opportunity cost method and shadow wage method. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Time used for agricultural work and household work by with women were 5.3 hours and 3.8 hours each. 2) According to the methods used, the amounts of valuing rural women's labor were varied and ranged from 23,000 won to 43,000 won per day. This study might help recognize the degree of rural women's labor contribution to the household income of farm households and improve the socio-economic status of rural women through showing the productivity of the rural women's labor.
This paper studies a new replacement policy in case that average repair cost rate increases linearly in proportion to time t. At the moment when the repair cost rate reaches or exceeds a fixed level, the component is replaced. This policy is compared with the economic lifetime policy. Advantages of this model according to the increment of replacement cost is shown in numerical example.

We consider the problem of determining the optimal replacement policy of the items which deteriorate appreciably with time and become obsolete. Most of the conventional engineering economy models including the widely-accepted MAPI model assume linearity of technological improvement over time, in obtaining the economic lives of items and the net present values of the replacement alternatives under consideration. The main achievement of this paper is in that it successfully relaxes this strict linearity assumption to accommodate various other types of technological improvements in determining those values. Based on these results, we also include in this paper the mathematical models by which to determine the optimal replacement policies of items both under and without capital budgeting constraints.

As of December 2016, there are 608,828 elevators in operation in Korea and 179,790 elevators in more than 15 years. 30.4% of all elevator are aging. Improved maintenance of the elevator and proactive replacement of the parts of the elevator can extend the lifetime of the elevator and ensure safety. An unclean environment reduces the lifetime of elevator parts. If you do not clean the environment and prevent preventive parts replacement, eventually shortening the lifetime of the parts connected to the failed part or causing more damage will result in greater economic loss. Also, the risk of elevator safety accidents due to failures of elevator parts will be increased accordingly. The study of optimum replacement time of elevator parts will contribute to prevention of safety accident of elevator and prolongation of lifetime of elevator through preventive replacement of elevator parts.
