  • This study is to understand the emotional tendency through out the history of architecture and interior design. In this process, a broad range of analysis of the period between Romanticism and Post Modernism will be done to collect historical data and the influence of the social situation. A thorough review and close examination of the 90's architectural trend will reveal the foundation of the concept behind GSD not just as the post-structuralism as a value system of digitalism but also makes easy to understand GSD in space design. In particular, the study will reveal how the ideas of post-structural philosophy has effected the formation of its movement as well as its influence to become the theoretical nutrition for digital architecture. The result of the study will be used as the valuable reference to define 'Emotional Design'(So call 'Gam-Sung Design = GSD) and become the foundation for further investigation on GSD space design in the near future.

  • Effective design of a database is essential for operating application systems efficiently. This paper discusses database design for a geographic information system. This goals of database design are multiple: to satisfy the information content requirements of the specified users and applications; to provide a natural and easy-to-understand structuring of the information; and to support processing requirements and any performance objectives such as response time, processing time, and storage space. Database design is a very complex process and is decomposed in three phases: conceptual, logical, and physical design. In this paper, we first collect and analyze the requirements for a geographic information system. We also perform database design for these requirements through the three design phases systematically. Our results would contribute to the effective construction of a database for a geographic information system.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify characteristic of Swedish modern furniture design through design works made by 8 prominent Swedish furniture designers during the 20th century. The study was completed through literature reviews and searching for web-sites of Swedish distinguished furniture companies. 8 furniture designers, eg. Erik Gunnar Asprund, Carl Malmsten, Josef Frank, John Kandell, Mats Theselius, Bruno Mathsson, $\AA$ke Axelsson and Yngve Extr$\ddot{o}$m were selected to identify the characteristics of Swedish modern furniture design. The results are as follows: 1) they pursuit simple and functional design beyond time. 2) they pursuit functionalism modified with Swedish traditional craftsmanship. 3) natural wood is considered as the most beloved material for the furniture together with other natural materials such as hemp, leather and cane. 5) easy maintenance and durability of the furniture are considered as important factors to make it last long. 6) ecological concept is fulfilled to meet environmental legislation.

  • A simplified pole-placement design method is developed by analysing dynamic characteristics of the switching dynamics. Unlike the design procedure of conventional pole-placement, in the proposed method, overall state-space is directly decomposed into two invariant subspaces by the projection operator which is defined in the equivalent system, and then the closed-loop poles are assigned to each subspace independently. Hence, computations for state-feedback gain matrix are easy and simple.

  • This paper proposes a new testable design for Zipper CMOS circuits. This design provides an additional feedback loop (called self oscillation loop) whichin the circuit, for testability. The circuit is tested only by observing the oscillation on the loop. The design can be applied to the multistage as well as the single stage, and can detect multiple faults which are undetectable by the conventional testing method. The application and evaluation of test patterns become easy and fault-free responses are not necessary. If the conventional testing method is applied to the sequential Zipper CMOS circuit with the LSSD design technique, it has the serious defect that the initial value may change due to intermediate test patterns and much time taken to apply the necessary test patterns. By using the proposed design, however, the sequential Zipper CMOS circuit with the LSSD design technique can be easily tested without such a defect. Also, the validity of the design is verified by performing the circuit level simulation.

  • Springs for vehicle suspension control the vibration of a car and influence on the ridability, safety, and life of a car. in the paper, the computer aided design program has been developed, which design the leaf spring shape from the given specifications using basic theory and the expert\`s knowledge, and the design results are checked by the analysis theory in order to increase the accuracy, and feed back to the design input. For the purpose of easy use, this program consists of pull-down menu and interactive input mode. To prove the effectiveness of this program, two springs, of which one is symmetric, other asymmetric, are designed and analyzed, and the outputs are compared to the experiments. Considering the tolerance of the given specifications, the results are good.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate design elements to strengthen apartment communities in territoriality perspectives. To this end, the study first identified the functions of territoriality to communities, and examined precedent studies on community planning. Then, looking into actual apartment, the study analyzed design elements of the apartments by territoriality functions, and found significant community-building and community-strengthening elements. The results of case studies are as follows: Specific design elements are 1) both individual and shared places from the perspective of possession, 2) both physical boundaries including visible mark and physical demarcation, and emotional boundaries including space arrangement and visual expansion from the perspective of boundary-regulation, 3) both physical proximity, such as providing space for physical encounter and easy access, and emotional proximity such as homogeneity and intimacy from the perspective of proximity 4) design differentiation and adoption of the design concept to express the identity of the community from the perspective of proximity personalization.

  • Topology optimization methods are classified into two methods such as the density method and the homogenization method. Those methods need to consider relationships between the material property and the density of each element in a design domain, the relaxation of the design space, etc. However, it is hard to apply on some cases due to the complexity to compose the design objective and its sensitivity analysis. In this paper, a modified topology optimization is proposed to assist designers who do not have mathematical or theoretical background of the topology optimization. In this study, optimal topology of structures can be achieved by the sequential design of experiment (DOE) and the sensitivity analysis. We conducted the DOE with an orthogonal array and the sensitivity analysis of design variables to determine sensitive variables used for connectivity between elements. The modified topology optimization method has advantages such as freedom from penalizing intermediate values and easy application with basic DOE concept.

  • The aim of the study was to look into the construction methods of historical corsetry and compare them with the construction methods of corsetry today. Through a comparative study, it was concluded that the design, material, sewing and functions of corsetry of a certain period are sum of the clothing techniques and fashion of the time. Corset was first appeared at the end of the 16th century. It has been through many changes in terms of items, materials, patterns, sewing methods in order to make right silhouettes of the time. Now corsetry has been developed into various items such as waist nipper, all-in-one, nipper bra, and girdle. All these items have a common purpose, that is to improve the body shape. The corsetry of the past was made of non stretchable materials, so they used to restrict body movements, and required individual fitting several times. Due to the development of thin durable stretchable fabrics, functional bones, and advanced sewing machines, construction methods of seam, hem and opening are simplified compare to their predecessors. Consequently corsetry became less weighted, easy to wear, easy to wash and easy to mass produce. Yet they have consistency in sewing techniques such as using bones or wires to support bodice shape, using durable twill fabrics over plain for attractive body shapes.

  • In creating an avatar, consumers can find out for themselves their own sizes to be entered. Also, putting in a face creation main-page menu option enables clients to make up their faces and match them to their bodies. Through this process when purchasing clothes through the internet consumers can enter their own body sizes and create avatars that are identical to their body shape. The uniqueness of developed prototype is that it creates an avatar similar to one's body shape according to body size inputs and demonstrates visually to customers the on-line comfort test which was only available off-line traditionally. The avatar follows the movement of mouse from left to right which enables 3 dimensional visualization. Through maximizing the visual effect this research focuses on enabling consumers to feel subjective parts as if they are off-line. This study seeks to provide a type of prototype of an online shopping mall that meets the demand of the consumers using the 3D avatar.
