  • This paper proposes a new method for eliminating periodic interference corrupting a signal. The method proposed herein uses a variable notch filter by sampling frequency control to eliminate the interference. This method is applicable when an auxiliary reference input is available containing the interference alone. The sampling frequency is determined by the fundamental frequency of the periodic interference. Also, this paper proposes a design procedure so that it can be easily applied.

  • This paper investigates the relationship between the two problems, supervisor reduction and observation function (projection) design, which arise in supervisory control of DEDS. It is shown through an example that a reduced supervisor of minimal size does not necessarily result in a maximal projection when a projection design method which uses the transition structure of a supervisor is applied. Also, if an L-realizable projection P is available and if a supervisor has a special structural feature, a cover C for supervisor reduction can be easily obtained. By investigating the control-compatibility of states of the reduced supervisor based on C, we can also check maximality of P in a simple manner.

  • Storage methods to suppress growth of transplants and maintain their quality are required for successful commercial transplant production, since peak demand for transplants of flower or vegetable species falls during limited periods in spring and fall, due to the seasonal nature of the horticulture industry. Plug seedlings, probably due to their high planting density and limited rhizosphere, easily elongated or overgrown during the holding period before the market or greenhouse space is available.   • In many practical machine learning and data mining applications, unlabeled training examples are readily available but labeled ones are fairly expensive to obtain. Therefore semi-supervised learning algorithms have attracted much attentions. However, previous research mainly focuses on classication problems. In this paper, a semi-supervised regression method based on support vector regression (SVR) formulation that is proposed. The estimator is easily obtained via the dual formulation of the optimization problem. The experimental results with simulated and real data suggest superior performance of the our proposed method compared with standard SVR.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of web-based engineering calculation program using Javascript. Recently, various techniques are developed based on the advance of the internet environment. The Javascript can be used in the client PC without any interpreter which is necessary in Java. Simple formula can be easily constructed using the Javascript and the results can be readily available without any playing. In this study, we demonstrated the method of constructing engineering web useful for engineers.

  • Stable and non-hygroscopic polystyrene supported aluminium triflate (Ps-$Al(OTf)_3$), which is prepared easily from cheap and commercially available compounds was found to be an environmentally friendly heterogeneous catalyst for Friedel-Crafts acylation of arenes using acid chlorides in the absence of solvent under mild reaction conditions. The catalyst can be reused up to five times after simple washing with dichloromethane.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a finite element structural analysis program using VB(Visual Basic) which has been recently getting popular as development tools of application program for Windows. VB provides several functions to develop an application program easily by supporting event-driven programming method and graphic object as control data type. This system is an integrated processor including preprocessor, solver and postprocessor. Automatic mesh generation is available at preprocess stage, and graphic presentation of deformation and stress is also represented at postprocess one.

Geometrical Construction of the S Matrix and Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory for the two Open and One Closed Channel System

  • The multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT) is reformulated into the form of the configuration mixing (CM) method using the geometrical construction of the S matrix developed for the system involving two open and one closed channels. The reformulation is done by the phase renormalization method of Giusti-Suzor and Fano. The rather unconventional short-range reactance matrix K whose diagonal elements are not zero is obtained though the Lu-Fano plot becomes symmetrical. The reformulation of MQDT yields the partial cross section formulas analogous to Fano's resonance formula, which has not easily been available in other's work.

  • Commercial conductive metal inks are available, but metals used in these have unsuitable work function for efficient OLED device performance. Metals with low work function tend to oxidize easily, which makes it challenging to develop low work function metal inks. In this research we describe printed low work function Al cathode.

  • This paper describes an improved FES system to restorp paralyzed extremities in spinal-cord-injured patients. By using time-division method in the proposed FES system, we can reduce the size and weight of system despite of increasing channels. We designed a DC-DC converter to adapt the condition of each patient. We could reduce the cost by using easily available apparatus like an IBM-PC for the stimulus-pattern-creating system and standardized parts for the protable FES system.
