Content and Distribution of Transition Metals and Rare Earth Elements in Magnetically and Mechanically Separated Brown Coal Ash

  • Coal ash is known to contain a noticeable amount of valuable elements, including transition metals and lanthanides. Therefore it is quite actual problem to extract them for metallurgy and other applications. This paper presents the results of high gradient magnetic and mechanical separation, microscopy, element analyses and optical spectroscopy of brown coal ash taken from the combustion camera and chimney-stalk of Angren thermal power station. The separated magnetic fraction was 3.4 wt.%, where the content of Fe in ferrospheres increased to 58 wt.%. The highest contents of Fe and rare earth elements were found in the fine fractions of $50-100{\mu}m$. Optical absorption spectroscopy of water solutions of the magnetic fractions revealed $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the ratio of ~1:1. The separated coal ash could be used for cleaning of technological liquid waste by means of the high gradient magnetic field.

Statistical study on nightside geosynchronous magnetic field responses to interplanetary shocks

  • When an interplanetary (IP) shock passes over the Earth's magnetosphere, the geosynchronous magnetic field strength near the noon is always enhanced, while the geosynchronous magnetic field near the midnight decreases or increases. In order to understand what determines the positive or negative magnetic field response at nightside geosynchronous orbit to sudden increases in the solar wind dynamic pressure, we have examined 120 IP shock-associated sudden commencements (SC) using magnetic field data from the GOES spacecraft near the midnight (MLT = 2200~0200) and found the following magnetic field perturbation characteristics. (1) There is a strong seasonal dependence of geosynchronous magnetic field perturbations during the passage of IP shocks. That is, the SC-associated geosynchronous magnetic field near the midnight increases (a positive response) in summer and decreases (a negative response) in winter. (2) These field perturbations are dominated by the radial magnetic field component rather than the north-south magnetic field component at nightside geosynchronous orbit. (3) The magnetic elevation angles corresponding to positive and negative responses decrease and increase, respectively. These field perturbation properties can be explained by the location of the cross-tail current enhancement during SC interval with respect to geosynchronous spacecraft position.

Global MHD Simulation of a Prolonged Steady Weak Southward Interplanetary Magnetic Field Condition

  • We performed high-resolution three-dimensional global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations to study the interaction between the Earth's magnetosphere and a prolonged steady southward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) (Bz = -2nT) and slow solar wind. The simulation results show that dayside magnetic reconnection continuously occurs at the subsolar region where the magnetosheath magnetic field is antiparallel to the geomagnetic field. The plasmoid developed on closed plasma sheet field lines. We found that the vortex was generated at the magnetic equator such as (X, Y) = (7.6, 8.9) RE due to the viscous-like interaction, which was strengthened by dayside reconnection. The magnetic field and plasma properties clearly showed quasiperiodic variations with a period of 8-10 min across the vortex. Additionally, double twin parallel vorticity in the polar region was clearly seen. The peak value of the cross-polar cap potential fluctuated between 17 and 20 kV during the tail reconnection.

  • 선박의 방위정보를 제공하는 장비로 자이로콤파스, 마그네틱콤파스, GPS콤파스가 있으며 자동조타기에는 필수적인 요소이다. 지자기센서는 철로 제작된 선박의 구조물 등과 같은 자성물질과 파도에 의한 방위오차 변동이 심하게 나타나며 지자기 센서가 검출하는 자극은 진북 또는 남극과 일치하지 않으므로 검출되는 방위값은 필연적으로 오차를 수반할 수밖에 없다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 방위 정보의 변화에 영향을 주는 요인에 대한 방위정보의 요란에 대하여 최소변화 방위를 검색하기 위해 칼만 필터링 기법을 활용하여 각각의 단점을 보완하는 방식으로 지자기센서와 GPS수신기를 이용하여 병행알고리즘의 전자콤파스를 구현하였다.

다목적위성 삼축자력계로부터 관측된 지구자기장에 관한 연구 (Analysis of Geomagnetic Field measured from KOMPSAT-1 Three-Axis Magnetometer)

  • 다목적위성 아리랑 1호(KOMPSAT-1)에 장착된 본체 자세제어용 삼축자력계(TAM) 자료로부터 2000년 6월 19일에서 21일 사이의 지구자기장을 추출하였다 전처리과정으로 관측자료를 지구관성좌표계에서 지구고정좌표계로 변환시킨 후, 이를 다시 구면좌표계로 변환하였고, 지구자기장의 영향이 아닌 위성체 내의 전류에 의한 유도자기장은 자기장의 대칭성을 이용하여 제거하였다. 지구 외적 요인에 의한 자기장의 영향을 제거하기 위해 위성 궤도를 상향 및 하향 두 그룹으로 분류한 후, 2차원 파동수대비법을 이용해 두 그룹 사이에 서로 역으로 대비되는 성분을 제거하였다. 측선 잡음을 제거를 위하여 파동수영역에서 사분면교환법을 도입하였고, 이로부터 삼축자력계 관측값으로부터 최증적인 지구자기장을 추출하였다. TAM 자기장의 검증을 위해 다목적위성과 비슷한 시기에 유사한 고도에서 지구자기장을 전문적으로 측정한 ${\phi}$rsted로부터 유도된 지구자기장 및 IGRF2000모델과 비교한 결과 이들 사이의 상관계수는 각각 0.97과 0.96으로 매우 높게 나타났다. 끝으로 이 연구에서 추출한 지구자기장으로부터 구면조화계수를 degree & order 19까지 계산한 후 이를 IGRF ${\phi}$rsted와 Champ 모델과 비교하였다. 이 연구에 의해 일반적인 지구관측위성의 자세보정용 자력계로부터 degree & order 5까지 신뢰성있는 지구자기장의 추출이 가능함은 밝혀졌고, 이로부터 이 연구의 자료처리과정을 도입하면 지구자기장 전문관측위성이 존재하지 않는 기간은 물론 관측이 존재하지 않는 고도에 대한 지구자기장의 추출이 가능하게 되었고 이로부터 전지구 자기장 모델의 저주파 성분을 향상시킬 수 있음이 밝혀졌다.

PRIMORDIAL BLACKHOLE AS A SEED FOR THE COSMIC MAGNETIC FIELD

  • We present a model that rotating primordial blackholes(PBHs) produced at the end of inflation generate the random, non-oriented primordial magnetic field. PBHs are copiously produced as the Universe completes the cosmic phase transition via bubble nucleation and tunneling processes in the extended inflation hypothesis. The PBHs produced acquire angular momentum through the mutual tidal gravitational interaction. For PBHs of mass less than 1013g, one can show that the evaporation (photon) luminosity of PBHs exceeds the Eddington limit. Thus throughout the lifetime of the rotating PBH, radiation flow from the central blackhole along the Kerr-geodesic exerts torque to ambient plasma. In the process similar to the Bierman's battery mechanism electron current reaching up to the horizon scale is induced. For PBHs of Grand Unified Theories extended inflation with the symmetry breaking temperature of $T_{GUT}\;\~\;10^{10}$ GeV, which evaporate near decoupling, we find that they generate random, non-oriented magnetic fields of $\~10^{-11}G$ on the last-scattering surface on (the present comoving) scales of $\~O(10)Mpc$.

Enhancement of the Magnetic Flux in Metglas/PZT-Magnetoelectric Integrated 2D Geomagnetic Device

  • Experimental investigations of the magnetization, magnetostriction and magnetoelectric (ME) effects were performed on sandwich - type Metglas/PZT/Metglas laminate composites. The results have been analyzed by taking into account the demagnetization contribution. The study has pointed out that the magnetic flux concentration is strongly improved in piezomagnetic laminates with a narrower width leading to a significant enhancement of the ME effects. The piezomagnetic laminates with the optimal area dimension were integrated to form a 2-D geomagnetic device, which simultaneously can precisely detect the strength as well as inclination of the earth's magnetic field. In this case, a magnetic field resolution of better than $10^{-4}$ Oe and an angle precision of ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}$ were determined. This simple and low-cost geomagnetic-field device is promising for various applications.

  • 직육면체 프리즘에 대한 중력, 자력, 중력 변화율 텐서 및 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식을 정리하였다. 직교 좌표계에서 직육면체 프리즘에 대한 삼중 적분으로 수직 중력을 유도하고, 직육면체의 축 방향 대칭성을 이용하여 순환 치환으로 두 개의 수평 중력 성분을 유도한다. 벡터 중력을 각 성분 별로 미분하여 중력 변화율 텐서를 유도한다. 포아송(Poisson) 관계식을 이용하면 일정한 방향으로 자화된 벡터 자력은 중력 변화율 텐서로부터 얻어진다. 벡터 자력을 각 방향으로 미분하여 최종적으로 자력 변화율 텐서를 유도하였다.

  • In this paper, measurement and analysis of ELF electric and magnetic fields in the vicinity of 22.9[kV] distribution line have been performed. The height of measuring point from the earth's surface was 1[m], and the distance between the device and the operator was more than 3[m]. The experiments have been carried out by lateral profile, and we have made use of FIELDS program for the sake of comparision the experimental data with the theoretical value. Electric and magnetic fields intensity were strong under a distribution line, and were inversely proportional to lateral distance. The profiles of electric field were M shape and those of magnetic field were $\cap$ shape. Electric and magnetic fields intensity were increased with increasing the measurement height.
