  • Enlargement of street tree planting area is the proper and effective solution to reduce carbon dioxide. This solution bases on the ability of carbon storage and uptake by tree metabolism. However, the circumstance of road side has fatal disadvantages in tree metabolism such as growth and maturity because cutting and filling of roadsides cause unnatural soil composition. In this point, early rootage of street tree is the main factor of reducing carbon dioxide. This study aimed to find a appropriate transplantation planting method for sound and rapid rootage of street tree. For the study, Korean Mountain Ash(Sorbus alnifolia) were used for experimental groups. The groups were categorized by three groups such as trees produced on container with mulching treatment, trees produced in outdoor with mulching treatment, trees produced on container with weeding treatment. Each group consisted 10 trees with same size and transplanted in experimental site. Five months after transplanting, each group was estimated the biomass and carbon storage through a direct harvesting method. According to results of the study, the carbon storage of trees produced on container with mulching treatment is 42% more than trees produced in outdoor with mulching treatment. And the carbon storage of trees produced on container with mulching treatment is 19.5% more than trees produced on container with weeding treatment. These results may imply that transplantation of container produced tree with mulching treatment is the most rapid rootage among other groups. The weeding treatment is more effective than mulching treatment for rapid rootage of street trees.

  • Customer's purchase state consists of purchase inertia and variety-seeking. As the growing brand familiarity triggers the increase of brand attractiveness, customers purchase state will be of inertia. However the excessively growing brand familiarity ignites the decrease of brand attractiveness. Followingly the purchase state will be tend to plunge into the variety-seeking state. The main topic of this study is to validate the asymmetric formation of customer's purchase states between inertia and variety-seeking. In order to follow up the main topic, this article introduces a model to freely describe the velocity of value changes depending upon the purchase states. This model will help overcome the limitation of the past studies having been based on the symmetric value changes. Based on this approach marketer will be able to decide the timing of sales promotions. This research utilized local telecommunication carrier's database of smartphone application purchase/download records. This database was collected from two years (2009 and 2010) span, the time when the smartphones started commodifying in Korea whilst most of the past studies had used purchase data of maturity stage products. From this approach utilizing the introduction stage data in the product life cycle, the probability of brand choice depending upon the purchase state on the early-stage can be probed. Moreover, this study tries to expand the research methodology from the other areas of research by knowledge sharing. Here this study introduces the methodology of section-aggregated multinomial logit to simultaneously estimate the parameters that were included in the plural multinomial logit functions while the plural functions were inter-connected. This adoption of section-aggregated multinomial logit model procedures from the computerized statistics areas is expected to nourish the marketing research for more precise analysis and estimation of effects of marketing activities.

  • This study was conducted to develop an appropriate postharvest technique to extend the shelf-life of an early cultivar, 'Tsugaru' apples. The general quality of stored fruit was more affected by maturity at harvest than postharvest treatments. When firmness and internal quality were considered, fruits harvested at the medium stage of color development showed better results. Between postharvest treatments examined in this study, a simple polyethylene film(PE) wrapping (30um) was excellent on inhibition of weight loss but this treatment revealed no clear effect on other quality factors including firmness and acidity. Ethylene scrubber(ES) in polyethylene wrapping showed a positive effect on keeping fruit quality in general. Especially acid content was higher in fruit stored with PE + ES, thus, fruit seemed to be better in freshness. A physiological disorder was observed regardless postharvest treatments. The symptom was associated with incidence of pitting on surface and breakdown of the effected tissue. And much more symptoms were developed near the calyx end. Thus, future studies concerning 'Tsugaru' storage should include an examination of the optimum storage temperature.

  • In the definitive hosts, metacercariae of Parofonimn westermani excyst in host duodenum, penetrate intestinal wall, migrate peritoneal and thoracic cavities, and develop to sexual maturity in 8 weeks. This study was undertaken to examine the age of the maturing p. westernnni when their infectivity to the other definitive hosts was retained. On 3, 7, 10, 14,21 and 28 days after feeding the metacercariae to cats through a gastric tube, the developing worms were harvested. The juveniles of different age were fed again to other experimental cats. One to 12 weeks after the oral-transfer infections, the experimental cats were examined for establishment of infections. In the cats to which 3- day and 7-day old juveniles (grown up to 1.4 mm long) were fed, 31.4% and 22.6% of the transferred worms were found infected. The worms of 10-28 days old were not infective. Early maturing stages grown up to 7 days maintained their infectivity to the other definitive hosts.

  • The ontogeny of pollen wall in Panax ginseng was studied with transmission and scanning electron microscopy from early tetrad stage until pollen maturity. Initial indication of exine development is undulation of plasma membrane for the preparation of bacular mound. The first recognizable structure of the pollen wall is the cellulosic primexine which is formed outside of the plasma membrane while microspore tetrads are still surrounded by callose wall. As development proceeds, foot-layer and baculum differentiation, callose dissolution and exine formation were progressed. During this process, sporopollenin is deposited into the exine, and then endexine development was followed. The intine, innermost pollen wall layer, is developing form hypertrophic Golgi vesicles. The thickness of exine is very even on all along the pollen wall, but intine thickness of apertural region is thicker than that of nonapertural region. Mature pollen of ginseng is $20{\mu}m$ in size, tricolpate and shows fine reticulate sculpturing.

  • The sediments on the continental shelf off the west coast (middle part) of Korea are divided into northern sandy deposits and southern muddy sediments, respectively. The sandy sediments consist dominantly of quartz and feldspar grains, representing mature-stage sediment in composition. Further-more, the presence of iron-stained quartz grain and glauconite does indicate that the sediments are similar to the relict sediments on the outer shelf of Yellow Sea and East China Sea. These sandy sediments are interpreted as a basal sands that were deposited during the transgression period due to sea-level rise after to last glacial maximum (LGM). The tidal deposits in the Namyang Bay, the west coast of Korea are divided vertically into the upper layer of muddy sediments and the lower layer of sandy sediments. the upper layer sediments contain abundant rock fragments, and are interpreted as the modern tetragenous sediments. The lower layer sediments, on the other hand, are rich in quartz and feldspar grains, representing high index of sediment maturity ratio. the lower layer sandy deposits show the presence of iron-stained.

  • Scapharca satawi is dioecious and attains sexual maturity, when it grows to a shell length of 70 mm. Its ovary is composed of a number of ovarian sacs; likewise, its testis is also composed of several testicular tubules. During the year 1999-2000, the condition index reached the maximum (0.017) in June and spawning occurred from July to September, when water temperature remained above 23$^{\circ}C$. The reproductive cycle of S. satowi can be classified into five successive stages: early active (December to March), late active (April to May), ripe (June 7o July), partially spawned (July to September) and spent/inactive (September and November) stages. Monthly changes in the condition index were closely relaxed to its reproductive cycle.

  • Soil moisture condition is an important limiting factor in growth and yield in rice culture. The purpose of this study was to compare the influence on the growth, yield and Quality of rice subjected to soil moisture stress (SMS) at different growth stages. Ajaponica rice cultivar, Dongjinbyeo, was cultured under flooded conditions in a plastic container filled with silty loam soil. The container was subjected to SMS until the initial wilting point (IWP) coincided with about 10% in soil moisture content and about-200 kPa in soil matric potential, and was then irrigated again, at 6 and 5 of main growth stage in 1996 and 1997, respectively. At maturity, the plant height, tiller number, leaf area and top dry weight were decreased more in SMS treatments at the early stage than the late stage. The averaged yield index of SMS to control in both years was lowest at meiosis (62.5%), which primarily resulted from lower percent ripened grain and 1,000 grain weight, and second' reduced the spikelet number per panicle and panicle number per hill, and followed at tillering stage (68.5%) which resulted from the lower production in tiller number and top dry matter during and after SMS treatment. The percent-age of read rice in SMS plants varied with the treatment stage as order of lower at meiosis (44.0%), heading (53.9%), panicle initiation (70.1%), tillering (72.1%), ripening (75.8%) and 5 days after transplanting (DAT) (79.0%). Protein content in brown rice was slightly larger in SMS at late growth stage than the control, while the contents of fat and ash differed very little between SMS and control. Contents of Mg and K and Mg/K in brown rice with SMS were lower at some treatment stages such as at ripening or panicle initiation.

  • Prediction of rice developmental stage is necessary for proper crop management and a prerequisite for growth simulation as well. The objectives of the present study were to find out the relationship between the plastochrone index(PI) and the developmental index(DVI) estimated by non-parametric phenology model which simulates the duration from seedling emergence(DVI=0) to heading(DVI=l) by employing daily mean air temperature and daylength as predictor variables, and to confirm the correspondency of developmental indice to panicle developmental stages based on this relationship. Four japonica rice cultivars, Kwanakbyeo, Sangpungbyeo, Dongjinbyeo, and Palgumbyeo which range from very early to very late in maturity, were grown by sowing directly in dry paddy field five times at an interval of two weeks. Data for seedling emergence, leaf appearance, differentiation stage of primary rachis branch and heading were collected. The non-parametric phenology model predicted well the duration from seedling emergence to heading with errors of less than three days in all sowings and cultivars. PI was calculated for every leaf appearance and related to the developmental index estimated for corresponding PI. The stepwise polynomial analysis produced highly significant square-rooted cubic or biquadratic equations depending on cultivars, and highly significant square-rooted biquadratic equation for pooled data across cultivars without any considerable reduction in accuracy compared to that for each cultivar. To confirm the applicability of this equation in predicting the panicle developmental stage, DVI at differentiation stage of primary rachis branch primordium was calculated by substituting PI with 82 corresponding to this stage, and the duration reaching this DVI from seedling emergence was estimated. The estimated duration revealed a good agreement with that observed in all sowings and cultivars. The deviations between the estimated and the observed were not greater than three days, and significant difference in accuracy was not found for predicting this developmental stage between those equations derived for each cultivar and for pooled data across all cultivars tested.
