  • Nowadays, multimedia and Hypermedia become hot topics in information industry. Due to high capacity of media storage and fast communication network, it is possible to exchange text data as well as image, moving picture and voice. Especially to apply hypermedia under CALS standard environment, the relation between international standard and CALS standard needs to be considered. This study introduces conceptual background and processing model of HyTime (Hypermedia Time-based Structuring Language) which is a specification of hypermedia exchange, Hyper ODA (Hyper Open Document Architecture) which is a major multimedia communication basis, MMCF (Multimedia Communication Forum), AHM(Amsterdam Hypermedia Model), and DSRM(DAVIC System Reference Model) reference model which helps determination of hypermedia communication specification Although they are international standard, provisional standard or non-standard, it discusses the Possibility of adopting them as CALS standard. Hence, this paper chooses the best recommend for CALS among these models.

  • This study examines the voice onset times (VOTs) of Korean stops produced by Korean learners of English with high language proficiency and long L2 exposure (i.e., Korean-English bilinguals) to assess whether the VOTs of their lax and aspirated stops are merging and, if so, which types of stops are being changed. Thirteen Korean speakers (six female and seven male) who had studied in the USA for more than three to ten years participated. The results show that the speakers in this study with long L2 exposure are participating in the VOT merger, in which VOTs for aspirated stops are reduced while those for lax stops are increased. In other words, change in VOT affects not only aspirated stops but also lax stops. The results indicate that L1 phonetic drift may not be primarily affected by the amount of L2 exposure, and language contact may not be the primary factor triggering a sound change in the Korean stop system. Further study is necessary focusing on the phonetic shift of the "lax" category because it may play a pivotal role in a tonogenetic-like sound change in present-day Korean.

  • Changes in the first language (L1) sound system as a result of acquiring a second language (L2) (i.e., phonetic drift) have received considerable attention from a variety of speakers, settings, and environments. Less attention has been given to phonetic drift in adult speakers' L2 learning as their length of residence in America (LOR) increases. This study examines the effects of LOR on voice onset time (VOT) in L1 Korean stops. Three different groups of Korean adult learners of L2 English were compared to assess how malleable their L1 representations are in terms of LOR and whether there is any relationship between L1 change and L2 acquisition. The results showed that the effect of LOR was linguistically unimportant in the production of Korean stops. However, VOT merger as evidence of sound change in Korean stops were robust in the speech production of most of the female speakers across the groups. The results suggest that L2 English may not be the primary cause of L1 sound change. For generalizability, further study is necessary to see whether other acoustic cues show a similar pattern.

  • Recently, interactive media which maximizes audience engagement by making the audience appeal on a stage in digital media environment has been distributed more widely. In fact, there has been active movement to develop and promote a new participatory media genre with higher immersion by applying this kind of interactive media concept to advertisement, film, game and e-learning. In the conventional interactive media, digital media had to be enjoyed in particular environment where diverse sensors were installed or through a certain device to recognize a user's motion and voice. This study attempted to design and implement an image creation system which ensures interactions between a user and media in popular distribution-enabled web environment and through PC and smart devices to minimize the image producer-user constraints.

  • In this paper, it is assumed that a mobile radio channel is a Rayleigh distributed multipath fading channel and Erlang capacity and equivalent channel numbers are calculated for the reverse link of a imperfect power controlled DS/CDMA cellular system considering both shadowing and multipath fading. The DS/CDMA blocking probability is calculated based on a new analysis method that considers Erlang capacity and ICF(interference correction factor) using the median value of $E_{b(i)}$/ $I_{o}$ corresponding to each reverse link user. It is showed that the effect of multipath fading must not be ignored in Erlang capacity of the IS-95 DS/CDMA cellular system and the Erlang capacity is decreased according to the increase of the deviation of the imperfect power control, to the decrease of the processing gain, to the increase of the voice activity.y.

  • This paper is addressed to Internet telephony based service implementation. It describes an implementation method which uses ARS as a gateway which combines Internet and traditional public switched telephone network for Internet information service using telephony and fax, is different to traditional Internet telephony which provide enhanced speech quality and low cost functionality. This method allows telephony and/or fax user to get Internet information without additional Internet bill, Internet infrastructure and low connection quality from low signal bandwidth connected him. Implemented system is useful to a special kind information service such as climate information of Korea etc and simpler than WAP based service as for wireless mobile telephony user. We implement job opportunity information and advertisement service supported by Home page of Choong Book Small & Medium Business Administration and e-mail service supported by Korean Society for Rehabilitation of persons with Disabilities to demonstrate the system ability. As a result of test implementation, this service system works good fur blind persons and graduated persons without job, is expected to apply for special Internet information provider via Voice and Fax.

  • In this paper, we implement a picture surveillance system using IBM-compatible PC with web camera. The reflex RGB data captured from WebCam is stored to HDD through USB port at every 5 seconds intervals. Also, if strangers are detected through Motion Detection routine, warning voice message is broadcasted and invasion message is transmitted by e-mail and transmit the e-mail title to mobile phone through WAP(Wireless Application Protocol) push. The detected image is stored to hard-disk in ‘month-day-hour-minute-second. jpg’ data type. And the image data is transmitted to web server through FTP(File Transfer Protocol) because invader can deletes or destroys the image data on hard-disk We implement a surveillance system which is able to utilize through internet regardless of time and space.

  • When automatic speech recognition (ASR) is provided as a cloud service, it is easy to collect voice and application domain data from users. Harnessing these data will facilitate the provision of more personalized services. In this paper, we demonstrate our transfer learning-based knowledge service that built with the user-generated data collected through our novel system that deliveries personalized ASR service. First, we discuss the motivation, challenges, and prospects of building up such a knowledge-based service-oriented system. Second, we present a Quadruple Transfer Learning (QTL) method that can learn a classification model from a source domain and transfer it to a target domain. Third, we provide an overview architecture of our novel system that collects voice data from mobile users, labels the data via crowdsourcing, utilises these collected user-generated data to train different machine learning models, and delivers the personalised real-time cloud services. Finally, we use the E-Book data collected from our system to train classification models and apply them in the smart TV domain, and the experimental results show that our QTL method is effective in two classification tasks, which confirms that the knowledge transfer provides a value-added service for the upper-layer mobile applications in different domains.
