This study was conducted to investigate the effect of environmental factor on milk yield and to estimate lactation curve in Korean cattle. The data for milk yields were collected from 118 cows from 1997 to 2000 at National Livestock Research Institute in Daekwanryoung, Kangwon-do. Average daily milk yields for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th month after calving were 3.74kg, 3.64kg, 3.26kg and 2.99kg. Average daily milk yield for the four months was 3.52kg. The milk yields for cows calved in spring were larger than those calved in fall. Lactation curve of Korean cattle was $y_n$=$2.4845n^{0.1734}e^{-0.0060n}$. Peak milk yield was 3.75kg on 29.03 day after calving. The peak milk yields for multi-parous cows were larger than those of primiparous cows. The peak milk yields for multi-parous cows reached later than those for primiparous cows. The cows calved in spring had higher and earlier peak milk yields than those calved in fall had.

The use of clean energy based on the hydrogen economy is increasing rapidly due to the greenhouse gas reduction policies and the increase in the need for hydrogen. Currently, South Korea government have been considering a plan to construct hydrogen refueling stations at expressway service area for the purpose of supplying hydrogen vehicles. In the case of a hydrogen refueling stations, a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) must be performed because it includs and uses a high pressurized hydrogen storage tank. In this study, QRA was conducted using societal risk and F-N curve by the consequence assessment (CA) of jet fire and explosion according to the population density, capacity of the high pressurized hydrogen storage tank and frequency assessment (FA) data to the general hydrogen refueling stations systems in expressway service area. In the cases of jet with a leak diameter of 7.16 mm, regardless of expressway service area location, the societal risk was over 1E-04 that was acceptable for as Low As reasonably practicable (ALARP) region (workforce), but unacceptable for ALARP region (public). In the cases of gas explosion, all expressway service area satisfy ALARP region. In the case of the population density is over 0.0727, QRA for constructing the hydrogen refueling stations, must be conducted.

This paper reports doping of carbon atoms in GaN layer, which based on dimethylhydrazine (DMHy) and growth temperature. It is well known that dislocations can act as non-radiative recombination center in light emitting diode (LED). Recently, many researchers have tried to reduce the dislocation density by using various techniques such as lateral epitaxial overgrowth (LEO) [1] and patterned sapphire substrate (PSS) [2], and etc. However, LEO and PSS techniques require additional complicated steps to make masks or patterns on the substrate. Some reports also showed insertion of carbon doped layer may have good effect on crystal quality of GaN layer [3]. Here we report the growth of GaN epitaxial layer by inserting carbon doped GaN layer into GaN epitaxial layer. GaN:C layer growth was performed in metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) reactor, and DMHy was used as a carbon doping source. We elucidated the role of DMHy in various GaN:C growth temperature. When growth temperature of GaN decreases, the concentration of carbon increases. Hence, we also checked the carbon concentration with DMHy depending on growth temperature. Carbon concentration of conventional GaN is $1.15{\times}1016$. Carbon concentration can be achieved up to $4.68{\times}1,018$. GaN epilayer quality measured by XRD rocking curve get better with GaN:C layer insertion. FWHM of (002) was decreased from 245 arcsec to 234 arcsec and FWHM of (102) decreased from 338 arcsec to 302 arcsec. By comparing the quality of GaN:C layer inserted GaN with conventional GaN, we confirmed that GaN:C interlayer can block dislocations.

The effects of sulfur treatments on the barrier heithts of Schottky contacts and the interface-state density of metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors on InP have been investigated. Schottky contacts were formed by the evaporation of Al, Au, and Pt on n-InP substrate before and after (NH$_{4}$)$_{2}$S$_{x}$ treatments, respectively. The barrier height of InP Schottky contacts was measured by their current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C_V) characteristics. We observed that the barrier heights of Schottky contacks on bare InP were 0.35~0.45 eV nearly independent of the metal work function, which is known to be due to the surface Fermi level pinning. In the case of sulfur-treated Au/InP ar Pt/InP Schottky diodes, However, the barrier heights were not only increased above 0.7 eV but also highly dependent on the metal work function. We have also investigated effects of (NH$_{4}$)$_{2}$S$_{x}$ treatments on the distribution of interface states in Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$InP MIS diodes where Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$ was provided by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). The typical value of interface-state density extracted feom 1 MHz C-V curve of sulfur-treated SiN$_{x}$/InP MIS diodes was found to be the order of 5${\times}10^{10}cm^{2}eV^{1}$. This value is much lower than that of MiS diodes made on bare InP surface. It is certain, therefore, that the (NH$_{4}$)$_{2}$S$_{x}$ treatment is a very powerful tool to enhance the barrier heights of Au/n-InP and Pt/n-InP Schottky contacts and to reduce the density of interface states in SiN$_{x}$/InP MIS diode.

This study is to develope the resilient modulus prediction model, which is the function of mean effective principal stress and axial strain, for three types of railroad trackbed materials such as crushed stone, weathered granite soil, and crushed-rock soil mixture. The model consists of the maximum Young's modulus and nonlinear values for higher strain, analogous to dynamic shear modulus. The maximum value is modeled by model parameters, $A_E$ and the power of mean effective principal stress, $n_E$. The nonlinear portion is represented by modified hyperbolic model, with the model parameters of reference strain, ${\varepsilon}_r$ and curvature coefficient, a. To assess the performance of the prediction models proposed herein, the elastic response of a test trackbed near PyeongTaek, Korea, was evaluated using a 3-D elastic multilayer computer program (GEOTRACK). The results were compared with measured elastic vertical displacement during the passages of freight and passenger trains at two locations, whose sub-ballasts were crushed stone and weathered granite soil, respectively. The calculated vertical displacements of the sub-ballasts are within the order of 0.6mm, and agree well with measured values. The prediction models are thus concluded to work properly in the preliminary investigation.
The present paper deals with the growth of yellow croaker by scale age reading. This study is based on material from 596 specimens caught by the Danish seine in the Yellow Sea during the period from June 1967 to April 1968. Ring marks of the scale were formed from April to July, corresponding to the spawning season of the fish reported by Bae (1960). Growth rate of each radius of the ring was approximately 0.73. The relationship between the total length and radius of scales, and the relationship between the body weight and total length are represented by the following equations respectively: L=61.350R+50.184 $$W=4.298L^{3.227}\times10^{-3}$$ Maximum total length calculated by the diagram of Walford's growth transformation, $$L_{n+1}=0.6866L_n+10.8730$$, was 346.9mm. Growth curve of the fish can be expressed by the following von Bertalanffy's equation : $$L_t=346.9(1-e^{-0.376(t+0.609)})$$

Entropy is a measure of disorder or uncertainty. This terminology is qualitatively used in the understanding of its correlation to pollution in the environmental area. In this research, three different entropies were defined and characterized in order to quantify the qualitative entropy previously used in the environmental science. We are dealing with newly defined distinct entropies $E_1$, $E_2$, and $E_3$ originated from Shannon entropy in the information theory, reflecting concentration of three major green house gases $CO_2$, $N_2O$ and $CH_4$ represented as the probability variables. First, $E_1$ is to evaluate the total amount of entropy from concentration difference of each green house gas with respect to three periods, due to industrial revolution, post-industrial revolution, and information revolution, respectively. Next, $E_2$ is to evaluate the entropy reflecting the increasing of the logarithm base along with the accumulated time unit. Lastly, $E_3$ is to evaluate the entropy with a fixed logarithm base by 2 depending on the time. Analytical results are as follows. $E_1$ shows the degree of prediction reliability with respect to variation of green house gases. As $E_1$ increased, the concentration variation becomes stabilized, so that it follows from linear correlation. $E_2$ is a valid indicator for the mutual comparison of those green house gases. Although $E_3$ locally varies within specific periods, it eventually follows a logarithmic curve like a similar pattern observed in thermodynamic entropy.

This work is devoted to the study of fresh and hardened properties of concrete containing recycled gravel. Four formulations were studied, the concrete of reference and three concretes containing recycled gravel with 30, 65 and 100 % replacement ratios. All materials were formulated on the basis of S4 class of flowability and a target C35 class of compressive strength according to the standard EN 206-1. The paper first presents the mix design method which was based on the optimization of cementitious paste and granular skeleton, then discusses experimental results. The results show that the elastic modulus and the tensile strength decrease while the peak strain in compression increases. Correlation with the water porosity is also established. The validity of analytical expressions proposed by Eurocode 2 is also discussed. The obtained results, together with results from the literature, show that these relationships do not predict adequately the mechanical properties as well as the stress-strain curve of tested materials. New expressions were established to predict the elastic modulus and the peak strain from the compressive strength of natural concrete. It was found that the proposed relationship E-$f_c$ is applicable for any type of concrete while the effect of substitution has to be introduced into the stress-strain (${\varepsilon}_{c1}-f_c$) relationship for recycled aggregate concrete. For the full stress-strain curve, the model of Carreira and Chu seems more adequate.
Objectives: While epidemiologic research indicates that the prevalence of risk-taking behaviors including cigarette smoking among young people with asthma is substantial, the longitudinal patterns of cigarette smoking in this vulnerable population have received little attention. The aim of this study was to evaluate differences in the longitudinal trajectories of cigarette use behaviors from adolescence to adulthood between young people with and without asthma. Methods: Data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) during the years 1994 to 1995 (Wave I, adolescence), 2001 to 2002 (Wave III, young adulthood), and 2007 to 2008 (Wave IV, adulthood) were analyzed (n=12 244). Latent growth curve models were used to examine the longitudinal trajectories of cigarette use behaviors during the transition to adulthood according to asthma status. Results: Regardless of asthma status, the trajectory means of cigarette use behaviors were found to increase, and then slightly decrease from adolescence to adulthood. In total participants, there were no statistically significant differences in initial levels and changes in cigarette use behaviors according to asthma status. However, in select sex and race subgroups (i.e., females and non-whites), former asthmatics showed greater escalation in cigarette use behaviors than did non-asthmatics or current asthmatics. Conclusions: This study indicated that the changing patterns of cigarette use behaviors during the transition to adulthood among young people with asthma are comparable to or even more drastic than those among young people without asthma.

There is a growing need to introduce advanced pressure vessel steels with higher strength and toughness for the optimizatiooCn of the design and construction of longer life and larger capacity nuclear power plants. SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steels have superior strength and fracture toughness, compared to SA508 Gr.3 Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel. Therefore, the application of SA508 Gr.4N low alloy steel could be considered to satisfy the strength and toughness required in advanced nuclear power plants. The purpose of this study is to characterize the microstructure and mechanical properties of SA508 Gr.4N low alloy steels. 1 ton ingot of SA508 Gr.4N model alloy was fabricated by vacuum induction melting followed by forging, quenching, and tempering. The predominant microstructure of the SA508 Gr.4N model alloy is tempered martensite having small packet and fine Cr-rich carbides. The yield strength at room temperature was 540MPa, and it was decreased with an increase of test temperature while DSA phenomenon occurred at around $288^{\circ}C$. Overall transition property of SA508 Gr.4N model alloy was much better than SA508 Gr.3 low alloy steel. The index temperature, $T_{41J}$, of SA508 Gr.4N model alloy was $-132^{\circ}C$ in Charpy impact tests, and reference nil-ductility transition temperature, $RT_{NDT}$ of $-105^{\circ}C$ was obtained from drop weight tests. From the fracture toughness tests performed in accordance with the ASTM standard E1921 Master curve method, the reference temperature, $T_0$ was $-147^{\circ}C$, which was improved more than $60^{\circ}C$ compared to SA508 Gr.3 low alloy steels.
