How E-learning Business for Teens Has Evolved in Korea: The Case of MegaStudy

  • Since MegaStudy started e-learning business for Korean high school students, the Korean e-learning industry began to expand and steadily gain attention. This paper focused on the analysis of the development of the Korean e-learning business for teens and the growth of MegaStudy. The three institutional mechanisms were used to examine the factors that aided the development of the business. The regulatory mechanism was the government policy to prevent the expansion of the offline private education sector, which greatly aided the growth of the e-learning business. The mimetic mechanism was the notion to mimic the characteristics of the Korean e-business initiatives. The normative mechanism involved the widespread social norm suggesting that every student should be given an equal opportunity of private education. This paper also examined the case of MegaStudy as a successful case of the e-learning companies. It analyzed the business model of MegaStudy, which is based on its advantage as the front-runner and its high-quality contents and services.

A Conceptual Framework for Determination of Appropriate Business Model in e-Learning Industry in Iran

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to present a framework for determining the most appropriate business model for e-learning. Research design, data, and methodology - The Electronics Branch of Azad University has been elected as a case study in this research. This study conducted using a descriptive method. The information was obtained using interviews with experts including managers, faculty and students at the Electronics Branch of Azad University. Results - Three service-product system (product oriented system, use an oriented and result oriented system) approaches determined a framework for the formation of a portfolio. This portfolio is including three types of e-learning business models. Examining the relevant characteristics, correspondence of behaviorism learning theory with a product-oriented approach, correspondence of cognitivism theory with a user-oriented approach and in finally match correspondence of constructivist learning theory with a results-oriented approach which is evident. Conclusions - After reviewing the literature on the fields of e-learning, business model and product - service systems, we have achieved three types of e-learning business models. Then the variables in any of the business models were defined by using business model canvas tool and thus a portfolio consisting of three types of e-learning business model canvas was obtained.

  • The recent development of IT, consolidation of communications and multimedia technology have brought enormous changes in many organizations. These changes are enabling the new educational environments such as distance learning and virtual education. Particularly e-Learning has grown rapidly in business training fields. In this regard, the primary purpose of this study is to investigate which factors of e-Learning influence education and training in business organizations through an empirical survey. The results show that most of hypotheses get significant support. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.

  • In this paper, we studied on the e-learning impact on the employees in the convention business, focusing on the employees' learning attitudes and emotion. Since the convention business is getting more attention especially in the culture and tourism industry, the employees in this convention setting are needed to reeducated periodically. We collect and test 126 employees who have studied some conventional education in e-learning. The findings of this research are that an employees' attitude and emotion have a significant positive effect on the achievement or success of the e-learning program. Based on this study, we discuss and suggests managerial implications for building e-learning context, with the consideration of the attitudes and emotion of the participants.

  • Many e-Learning companies are incorporated for the last five years, but most of them are failed or merged by the other company. The main reasons are the absence of competitive strategies and recognition of critical success factors. There are many researches on the critical success factors of Information System (IS) and Electronic Commerce (EC) . We derived e-Learning success factors from the previous IS and EC researches. We classified the success factors into five dimensions, (1) contents management, (2) learner management, (3) business strategy, (4) organizational support and ability, (5) learning management system (LMS), and each dimension has 9 or more success factors measurement items. We surveyed the perceived importance of the success factors from the manager of South Korea e-Learning firms. The paper categorized the items into two or more factors for each dimension by the exploratory factor analysis. Finally, we conducted one-way ANOVA for each success factors by the business model. As a result, there is different importance level for each success factors by the business model. We concluded that each e-Learning company needs different strategies to their business model.

  • Despite steady economic growth of e-learning industry, manpower is lacking in e-learning industry. In this study, We developed a new e-learning business model including open market portal system to solve this problem. The existing e-learning business models required complicated procedure for creating contents. Therefore it took long time and great expense. But in this study we developed the business model with open market portal system, it can support to make easily for e-learning contents. We analysed usefulness our program and other popular programs with thirty lecturers. As a result of survey, usefulness of our system is presented. The study suggests differently the student-centered business model and the lecturer-centered business model than existing e-learning business model had the manufacturing company-centered business model and the services-centered business model. We anticipate the new business model invigorate the e-learning industry.

  • This study aims to investigate factors affecting eBook acceptance and learning outcomes among students experiencing online distance learning. As conventional textbooks are now switched into eBooks, the effects of contextual factors including lecturer, student computer competency, content and design of the course, access ability, infrastructure, and university support on eBook acceptance and learning outcome needs to be evaluated. The sample of this study is represented by students at the Universiti Teknologi MARA, City Campus Melaka, undertaking 'strategic management course'. Non-probability random sampling was selected as the sampling technique and a purposive sampling method was chosen to select the samples. The samples comprised 171 students randomly selected through Google Form. The questionnaire data was analyzed by using PLS-SEM. The results indicated that these factors contributed 62.3% variations in the eBook acceptance and 67.1% variations in the learning outcomes. The strongest factor affecting both dependent variables was content and design of course. Managerial implication suggested that the content for all courses taught through the eBook platform needs to be revisited and improved in accordance with the mode of online deliverance. Tutorial on how to navigate the eBook platform is important to all users as this would enhance acceptance and produce better learning outcomes among students.

Theses changes are enabling the new educational opportunities such as distance teaming and virtual class room. Recently, e-Learning has grown rapidly in business training field, In the context of companies, e-Learning has merits in terms of access convenience, costs reduction self-directed learning, reciprocity, and flexibility. In this regard, the primary purpose of this study is to investigate which factors of e-Learning influence the effectiveness of education and transfer of loaming in business organizations. Based on the prior studies of the education and business training field, research model and research hypotheses were developed. Factors studied in this paper were as follows: 1) learners' characteristics, 2) organizational support and 3) system environments. The results of our study are as follows. (1) Motivation perceived usefulness in Learner factors had an significant influence on both learning effectiveness and transfer of teaming, whereas Ability, expectation had an influence on transfer of teaming. (2) Support from peer, support from supervisor in Organization factors had an significant influence on both Loaming effectiveness and transfer of teaming, whereas support from organization had influence on learning effectiveness. (3) Appropriate contents in system circumstance had an significant influence on both teaming effectiveness and transfer of teaming, whereas interface design had an influence on learning effectiveness.

  • The study investigated how did Credu pioneer Korean e-Learning market and reinforce their core competencies and how did they promote business diversification analyzing type of learning motives and examining Credu real cases. Under the fierce competition in the current e-Learning market, Credu has maintained their core competencies and strengthened an active communication channels with customers with focusing on investment to core businesses. Credu has introduced more adventurous and challenging products and services with creating a new model for the types of learning motives. This study could introduce the new perspective about the type of learning motives in e-Learning area. Also, the case study of successful e-Learning company, Credu, could contribute to make more spread e-Learning market techniques in this field in practice.

  • The benefits of an e-learning system will not be maximized unless learners use the system. This study proposed and tested models that seek to explain students' satisfaction withe-learning systems. A survey was performed at a women's college in Korea, where students experimentally could choose to register one same course either through e-learning or class-room learning. The questionnaire was filled up by students who took e-learning option. independent variables include expected benefits, familiarity with technology, social influence, and accessibility. Dependent variables include the level of satisfaction, academic achievement, and the amount of the use of systems.
