Comparison of smartphone accelerometer applications for structural vibration monitoring

  • Recent generations of smartphones offer accelerometer sensors as a standard feature. While this has led to the development of a number of related applications (apps), there has been no study on their comparative or individual performance against a benchmark. This paper investigates the comparative performance of a number of smartphone accelerometer apps amongst themselves and to a calibrated benchmark accelerometer. A total of 12 apps were selected for testing out of 90 following an initial review. The selected apps were subjected to sinusoidal vibration testing of varying frequency and the response of each compared against the calibrated baseline accelerometer. The performance of apps was quantified using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and test of significance was carried out. The apps were then compared for a realistic dynamic scenario of measuring the acceleration response of a bridge due to the passage of a French Train $\grave{a}$ Grande Vitesse (TGV) in a laboratory environment.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel dynamical love model of Romeo and Juliet, which has an external force with a fuzzy membership function. The external force used in the model has the characteristics of a Gaussian function. The chaotic behavior in the model is demonstrated using time series and phase portraits.

  • Through the last 20 years' study, it is a well-known fact that symbolic approach has limitations in generating a new concept from given concepts. Hence, neural networks having a role of associative memory based on dynamical activation of neurons attract AI scientists' attention. In this paper, recent trials for combining neural networks and Artificial Intelligent systems are systematically reviewed and a prototype ENEDB(Experimental Neuro Expert DataBase) system built on HP9000/300 workstation is introduced to show the possibility of using the trials for real applications.

  • In this paper, we present new methods for solving the inverse kinematics associated with 6 degree of freedoms manipulator by the numerical method. This method will be based on tracking stability of special nonlinear dynamical systems, and differs from the typical techniques based by the Newton-Gauss or Newton-Raphson method for solving nonlinear equations. This simulation results show that the new method is solving the inverse kinematics of PUMA 560 without the derivative of a given task space trajectories.

  • In this paper, we propose a mthod to decouple the multi-input multi-output two-dimensional system. Then, we analyze the realization dimension of the feedback, feedforward given to decouple. Moreover, we consider the possibility of the reduction of the dynamical dimension needed to decouple. Besides, in order to stabilize the decoupled two-dimensional system, we suggest a method to assign the poles of each entry of the transfer function matrix to the desired positions.

  • Highly nonlinear dynamical systems are easily identified using neural networks. When disturbances are included in the learning data set Int system modeling, modeling process will be poorly performed. Since the radial basis functions in the radial basis function network(RBFN) are centered at the points specified by the weights, RBF networks are robust for approximating the process including the narrow-band disturbances deviating significantly from the regular signals. To exclude(filter) these disturbances, a robust algorithm for system identification, based on the RBFN, is proposed. The performance of system identification excluding disturbances is investigated and compared with the one including disturbances.

  • This paper presents the practice of multitexturing in the Internet for enhancing the image quality of 3D contents, where the attributes of objects such as textures are dynamically changed. We explain the empirical results of realizing the X3D nodes related with multitexturing in the recent X3D viewers, and discuss the directions for upgrading X3D viewers that satisfy the user requirements and the advanced graphics accelerators.

  • In this paper, we introduce the identification model of dynamic system using the neural networks, We propose two identification models. The output of the parallel identification model is a linear combination of its past values as well as those of the input. The series-parallel model is a linear combination of the past values in the input and output of the plant. To generate stable adaptive laws, we prove that the series-parallel model is found to be proferable.

  • This paper presents a micro-computer simulation package for the various vibratory systems. The Package consists of 10 programs which describe the dynamical characteristics of the vibratory system. The programs have been written in BASIC (Appoesoft) language and programmed on the 6502 CPU with 48 KRAM. This simulation package is stored in 5 $^1/_4$ inch floppy disk. The user requires no simulation expertise on the part of designer. Through a process of disk operation, the user can easily under- stand how to use this package.
