Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are popular due to their low cost and rapid deployment. Currently, many WMN researchers often considers the use of ad-hoc routing protocols because WMNs are similar to the ad-hoc networks. Some of currently deployed WMNs consider to use on-demand routing protocols such as Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR). But, AODV are not appropriate for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs), because flooding-based route discovery is both redundant and expensive in terms of control message overhead. In this paper, we propose a directional AODV (D-AODV) routing protocol based on hop count to a gateway. We implement the D-AODV routing protocol and evaluate the performance of the D-AODV on the testbed. The measurement results show that the D-AODV can enhance the network throughput by reducing the routing overhead.
In MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network), unlike in wired networks, a path configuration should be in advance of data transmission along a routing path. Frequent movement of mobile nodes, however, makes it difficult to maintain the configured path and requires re-configuration of the path very often. It may also leads to serious problems such as deterioration of QoS in mobile ad-hoc networks. In this paper, we proposed a Reactive Routing Keyword (RRK) routing procedure to solve those problems. Firstly, we noticed it is possible in RRK routing to assign multiple routing paths to the destination node. We applied this feature into active networks and SNMP information based routing by storing unique keywords in cache of mobile nodes corresponding to present and candidate routings in a path configuration procedure. It was shown that the deterioration of QoS which may observed in Dynamic Source Routing(DSR) protocol was greatly mitigated by using the proposed routing technique.

This paper describes the problems of the existing two multi-layer routing policies(policy 1 and policy 2) and suggests new multi-layer routing policy(policy 3) which is established the packet LSP by inquiry on packet LSP lambda routing tables for GMPLS based optical If Network. All policies of multi-layer routing schemes first try to allocate a newly requested electrical path to an existing optical path that directly connects the source and destination nodes. U such a path is not available, all policies employ different procedures. Policy 1 tries to find available existing optical paths with two or more hops that connect the source and destination nodes and policy 2 tries to establish a new one-hop optical path between source and destination nodes. Policy 3 tries to establish a new one-hop optical path by inquiry on information of the packet LSP lambda routing tables between source and destination nodes. The performances of the three multi-routing policies are evaluated by computer simulation. Simulation results show that policy 3 is the excellent of routing time and traffic acceptance capabilities compare to existing two polices if p is large, where p is the number of packet-switching-capable ports p.
There can exist unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile terminals or current wireless environments on practical mobile ad hoc networks. However, at present, the existing mobile ad hoc routing protocols are implemented to support only bidirectional links. Thus, in this paper, we extend the existing dynamic source routing protocol in order to implement a new routing protocol, which is fit to mobile ad hoc networks containing unidirectional links. For performance evaluation, we use combinations of mobility scenario files and connection pattern files from Carnegimelon Univ. We consider received data rate and average route discovery time as evaluation items, which are compared and evaluated for three suggested route discovery methods.

Establishing a fixed path for the message delivery through a wireless network is impossible due to the mobility. Among the number of routing protocols that have been proposed for wireless ad-hoc networks, the AODV(Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector) algorithm is suitable in the case of highly dynamic topology changes, along with ZigBee Routing(ZBR), with the exception of route maintenance. Accordingly, this paper introduces a routing scheme focusing on the energy efficiency and route discovery time for wireless alarm systems using IEEE 802.15.4-based ZigBee. Essentially, the proposed routing algorithm utilizes a cluster structure and applies ZBR within a cluster and DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) between clusters. The proposed algorithm does not require a routing table for the cluster heads, as the inter-cluster routing is performed using DSR. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with ZBR using an NS2 simulator. The results confirm that the proposed Cluster-based AODV (CAODV) algorithm is more efficient than ZBR in terms of the route discovery time and energy consumption.

A Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile nodes that forms a temporary network without the need for any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. Therefore, such a network is designed to operate in a highly dynamic environment due to node mobility. In mobile ad hoc network, frequent topological changes cause routing a challenging problem and without the complete view of the network topology, establishing the shortest path from the source node to the destination node is difficult. In this paper, we suggest a routing approach which utilizes location information to setup the shortest possible path between the source node and the destination node. Location information is obtained through Global Positioning System (GPS) and this geographical coordinate information of the destination node is used by the source node and intermediate nodes receiving route request messages to determine the shortest path to the destination from current node.

RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-power Lossy Network) is a standardized routing protocol for LLNs (Low power and Lossy Networks) by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). RPL creates routes and builds a DODAG (Destination Oriented Directed Acyclic Graph) through OF (Objective Function) defining routing metrics and optimization objectives. RPL supports a leaf mode which does not allow any child nodes. In this paper, we propose INFRA-RPL which provides a dynamic leaf mode functionality to a leaf node with the mobility. The proposed protocol is implemented in the open-source IoT operating system, Contiki-NG and Cooja simulator, and its performance is evaluated. The evaluation results show that INFRA-RPL outperforms the existing protocols in the terms of PDR, latency, and control message overhead.

With the rapid development of urban traffic system and fast increasing of vehicle numbers, the traditional centralized ways to generate the source-destination shortest path in terms of travel time(the optimal path) encounter several problems, such as high server pressure, low query efficiency, roads state without in-time updating. With the widespread use of smart cameras in the urban traffic and surveillance system, this paper maps the optimal path finding problem in the dynamic road network to the shortest routing problem in the smart camera networks. The proposed distributed optimal path generation algorithm employs the delay routing and caching mechanism. Real-time route update is also presented to adapt to the dynamic road network. The test result shows that this algorithm has advantages in both query time and query packet numbers.
This paper proposes a new cluster-based routing protocol for assuring the service lifetime of wireless multimedia sensor networks. The proposed protocol performs the intra-cluster routing and inter-cluster routing to reduce the energy consumption and service lifetime in the wireless sensor multimedia computing environment, and the proposed mechanism enhances the routing reliability, and it minimizes the packet loss, overhead, and energy consumption. The simulation results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms DSR and AODV.

IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)는 이러한 단점의 회피 방법으로 Flow State 메카니즘을 제안 하고 있다.
