  • Dynamic pricing refers to a system in which a tariff varies, according to a level of charging and applied time depending on time change. The power billing system used in the Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is based on time of use (TOU) pricing, which is one of the dynamic pricing systems. This paper aimed to determine the operational results of a variable refrigerant flow system, to which a new control algorithm was applied, in order to respond to dynamic pricing, in summer and the utility of the new control. To do this, real measured data was acquired from a VRF system installed in a building for educational purposes, where dynamic pricing was applied for about 100 days during summer time. At the maximum load operation time period in TOU, the new control minimized operation within the indoor comfort range, an increase in refrigerant evaporation temperature in the indoor unit and the number of revolutions in a compressor in the outdoor unit was limited. As a result, power usage was decreased by 11%, and the operational cost by 14.6%. Furthermore, measurement results using the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) model, that represented satisfaction of thermal environment, showed that 82.8% to 90.4% of the occupants of the building were satisfied during operation when the new control was applied.

  • In this study, a micro/nano-random-pattern-structure surface was machined by electric discharge machining (EDM) followed by replicating the EDM surface with a silicone elastomer having low energy and greater hydrophobicity. The variation of hydrophobicity was of prime interest and was examined as a function of the surface roughness of the replicated silicone elastomer. The hydrophobicity was evaluated by the water contact angle (WCA) measured on the relevant surface. For the experiments, the original surfaces were machined by die sinking electric discharge machining (DS-EDM) and wire cutting electric discharge machining (WC-EDM). The ranges of surface roughness were Ra $0.8{\sim}19{\mu}m$ for the DS-EDM and Ra $0.5{\sim}4.7{\mu}m$ for the WC-EDM. In order to fabricate a hydrophobic surface, the EDM surfaces were directly replicated using a liquid-state silicone elastomer, which was thermally cured. The measured WCA on the replicated surfaces for DS-EDM was in the range of $115{\sim}130^{\circ}$ and for WC-EDM the WCA was in the range of $123{\sim}150^{\circ}$. Additionally, the dynamic hydrophobicity was evaluated by measuring an advancing and a receding WCA on the replicated silicone elastomer surfaces.

  • This paper describes the developed HILS and test equipment in order to test the performances of MMW(Millimeter-Wave) seeker which can detect and track a high speed of short-range ballistic missile and aircraft. This system is used to 141 horn antenna array, array switching, and gain and phase control algorithm to simulate various kind of targets and trajectory of high speed and maneuver moving target. In addition, it simulates not only velocity and range for these targets but also clutter and jamming environments. System configuration and implementation and the measurement results of major subsystems such as target motion simulator, simulation signal generator, high speed data aquisition unit, and central control unit are presented. These systems could verify the detection and tracking performance of MMW seeker through dynamic real-time test based on simulation flight scenario.

  • This paper describes characteristics of the single-balanced low IF resistive FET mixer for the digital beam forming(DBF) receiver. This DBF receiver based on the direct conversion method is designed with Low IF I and Q channel. A radio frequency(RF), a local oscillator(LO) and an intermediate frequency(IF) considered in this research are 1950 MHz, 1940 MHz and 10 MHz, respectively. Super low noise HJ FET of NE3210S01 is considered in design. The measured results of the proposed mixer are observed IF output power of -22.8 dBm without spurious signal at 10 MHz, conversion loss of -12.8 dB, isolation characteristics of -20 dB below, 1 dB gain compression point(PldB) of -3.9 dBm, input third order intercept point(IIP3) of 20 dBm, output third order intercept point(OIP3) of 4 dBm and dynamic range of 30 dBm. The proposed mixer has 1.0 dB higher IIP3 than previously published single-balanced resistive and GaAs FET mixers, and has 3.0 dB higher IIP3 and 4.3 dB higher PldB than CMOS mixers. This mixer was fabricated on 0.7874 mm thick microstrip $substrate(\varepsilon_r=2.5)$ and the total size is $123.1\;mm\times107.6\;mm$.

  • In this study, microstructural, dielectric and electrical properties of (Pb$\sub$0.83/) (La$\sub$0.2/Ce$\sub$0.8/)$\sub$0.08/TiO$_3$(PCT) ceramics as a function of MnO$_2$ addition and electrode size variation were investigated for 30 MHz high frequency ceramic resonator application. Grain size was gradually increased according to the increase of MnO$_2$ addition amount. Moreover, the density showed a constant value with increasing MnO$_2$ addition amount. Dielectric constant was decreased with increasing MnO$_2$ addition amount. Curie temperature of all the composition ceramics was nearly constant around 330$^{\circ}C$. The maximum D.R.of 50.5 dB and maximum Q$\sub$mt3/ of 1842 in the 3$\^$rd/ overtone vibration mode were appeared at the composition of 0.3wt% MnO$_2$, respectively.

  • A Bit-depth expansion is a method to increase the number of bit. It is getting important as the needs of HDR (High Dynamic Range) display or resolution of display have been increased because the level of luminance or expressiveness of color is proportional to the number of bit in the display. In this paper, we present effective bit-depth expansion algorithm for conventional standard 8 bit-depth content to display in high bit-depth device (10 bits). Proposed method shows better result comparing with recently developed methods in quantitative (PSNR) with low complexity. The proposed method shows 1db higher in PSNR measurement with 40 times faster in computational time.

  • In this paper, a 2-channel Image-Reject receiver using a 65-nm CMOS process is presented for Ka-band compact radars. The designed receiver consists of Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA), IQ mixer, and Analog Baseband (ABB). ABB includes a complex filter in order to suppress unwanted images, and the variable gain amplifiers (VGAs) in RF block and ABB have gain tuning range from 4.5-56 dB for wide dynamic range. The gain of the receiver is controlled by on-chip SPI controllers. The receiver has noise figure of <15 dB, OP1dB of >4 dBm, image rejection ratio of >30 dB, and channel isolation of >45 dB at the voltage gain of 36 dB, in the Ka-band target frequency. The receiver consumes 420 mA at 1.2 V supply with die area of 4000×1600 ㎛.

  • Compression tests were carried out to investigate morphologies of compressed specimen, deformation microstructure and stress-strain relation in high-nitrogen austenite stainless steel. Tests were performed under a wide range of temperature and, with true strain rates up to $\dot{\varepsilon}$ =0.05, 0.1, 0.5 and $1.0s^{-1}$. The activation energy of loading force was equal to plastic deformation energy within the temperature range of $900^{\circ}C$ to $1250^{\circ}C$. Dynamically recrystallized grain size decreased with an increasing strain rate and temperature. Flow stresses and deformation microstructures, were used to quantify the critical strain rate and recrystallized grain size. The grain size versus strain rate-temperature map obtained in the study was in good agreement with the deformation microstructures of compressed specimens.

  • The country with a relative abundance of human capital conducts relatively more R&D in the steady state than its partner. This country acquires the know-how to produce a relatively wider range of innovative goods. High technology comprises a large share of the national economy in the human-capital rich country and real output growth is faster. This prediction would seem to accord weakly with empirical observation of Korean economy.

  • In order to perform a step-by-step force-displacement response analysis or dynamic time-history analysis of large buildings with masonry infilled R/C frames, a continuous force-deformation model based on an equivalent strut approach is proposed for masonry infill panels containing openings. The model, which is applicable for degrading elements, can be implemented to replicate a wide range of monotonic force-displacement behaviour, resulting from different design and geometry, by varying the control parameters of the model. The control parameters of the proposed continuous model are determined using experimental data. The experimental program includes fifteen 1/3-scale, single-story, single-bay reinforced concrete frame specimens subjected to lateral cyclic loading. The parameters investigated include the shape, the size, the location of the opening and the infill compressive strength. The actual properties of the infill and henceforth the characteristics needed for the diagonal strut model are based on the assessment of its lateral resistance by the subtraction of the response of the bare frame from the response of the infilled frame.
