Vibration Behavior and Dynamic Stress of Runners of Very High Head Reversible Pump-turbines

  • In the development of very high head pumped storage projects, one of the critical problems is the strength of pumpturbine runners. Data obtained by stress measurements of high head pump-turbine runners indicated that dynamic stress due to the vibration of runner might be detrimental, possibly to cause fatigue failure, if the runner were designed without proper consideration on its dynamic behaviour. Numerous field stress measurements of runners and model tests conducted with hydrodynamic similarity revealed that the hydraulic excitation force developed by the interference of rotating runner blades with guide vane wakes sometimes would induce such heavy vibration of runner. Theoretical and experimental investigations on both the hydraulic excitation force and the natural frequencies of runner have been conducted to explore this forced vibration problem.

  • Under the rapid change of a new vehicle model, it is necessary to develop a durability analysis technique using computer simulation. In order to do this. reliable dynamic stress-time history for the vehicle components must be calculated on various road conditions. In this paper, a full vehicle simulation model which is composed of flexible frame and chassis components is proposed and verified its reliability from the comparison with field test data. Finally, dynamic stress-time history on the rear chassis components is predicted with hybrid and modal superposition method.

Dynamic analysis of a cable-stayed bridge using continuous formulation of 1-D linear member

  • This paper presents the solution scheme of using the continuous formulation of 1-D linear member for the dynamic analysis of structures consisting of axially loaded members. The context describes specific applications of such scheme to the verification of experimental data obtained from field test of bridges carried out by a microwave interferometer system and velocimeters. Attention is focused on analysis outlines that may be applicable to in-situ assessment for cable-stayed bridges. The derivation of the dynamic stiffness matrix of a prismatic member with distributed properties is briefly reviewed. A back calculation formula using frequencies of two arbitrary modes of vibration is next proposed to compute the tension force in cables. Derivation of the proposed formula is based on the formulation of an axially loaded flexural member. The applications of the formulation and the proposed formula are illustrated with a series of realistic examples.

충격공진시험을 활용한 얇은 원판형 아스팔트 콘크리트 시편의 탄성계수 결정 (Determination of Dynamic Modulus of Thin-Disk-Shaped Asphalt Concrete Specimens Using Impact Resonance Test)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study was to develop an impact resonance (IR) test procedure for thin disk-shaped specimens in order to determine the ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ and phase angle values of various asphalt mixtures. METHODS : An IR test procedure was developed for evaluating thin disk-shaped specimens, in order to determine the dynamic modulus (${\mid}E^*{\mid}$) of various asphalt mixtures. The IR test method that was developed to determine the elastic modulus values of Portland cement concrete was evaluated, which method uses axisymmetric flexural vibration proposed by Leming et al. (1996). The IR tests were performed on three different mixtures of New York with varying nominal maximum aggregate sizes (NY9.5, NY19, and NY25) at six different temperatures ($10-60^{\circ}C$). The ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ values obtained from the IR tests were compared with those determined by the commonly used AASHTO T342-11 test. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : The IR test method was employed to determine the ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ values of thin-disk-shaped specimens of various asphalt mixtures. It was found that the IR test method when used with thin disk-like specimens is a simple, practical, and cheap tool for determining the ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ values of field cores. Further, it was found the ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ values obtained from the IR tests using thin disk-like specimens were almost similar to those obtained using the AASHTO T342-11 test.

LEAD LEACHABILITY FROM QUICKLIME TREATED SOILS IN A DIFFUSION CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT

  • The effectiveness of quicklime-based stabilization/solidification (S/S) in immobilizing lead (Pb) was assessed by performing semi-dynamic leaching tests (ANS16.1). In order to simulate landfill leaching conditions, the ANS 16.1 test was modified by using 0.014 N acetic acid (pH = 3.25) instead of distilled water. Artificial soil samples as well as field soil samples contaminated with Pb were tested. The effectiveness of quicklime treatment was evaluated by determining diffusion coefficients ($D_e$) and leachability indices (LX). A model developed by de Groot and van der Sloat was used to elucidate the controlling Pb leaching mechanisms. Overall, upon quicklime treatment Pb leachability was significantly reduced in a]l of the samples tested. The mean LX values were higher than 9 for an artificial soil sample containing 30% kaolinite treated with 10% quicklime and for a field soil sample treated with 10% quicklime, which suggests that S/S treated soils can be considered acceptable for "controlled utilization". Moreover, quicklime treatment was more effective in artificially contaminated soil with high kaolinite content (30%), indicating the amount of clay plays an important role in the success of the treatment. The controlling Pb leaching mechanism was found to be diffusion, in all quicklime treated samples.

  • Magnetocardiography is a very weak biomagnetic field generated from the heart. Since the magnitude of the biomagnetic field is in the order of a few pico Tesla, it is measured with a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). SQUID is a transducer converting magnetic flux to voltage, however, its range of linear conversion is very restricted. In order to overcome the narrow dynamic range. a flux locked loop is used to feedback the output field with opposite polarity to the input field so that the total Held becomes zero. This prevents the operating point of the SQUID from moving too far away from the null point thereby escape from the linear region. In this paper, an emulator for the SQUID sensor and feedback coil is proposed. Magnetic courting between the original field and the generated field by the feedback coil is emulated by electronic circuits. By using the emulator, FLL circuits are analyzed and optimized without SQUID sensors. The emulator may be used as a test signal for multi-channel gain calibration and system maintenance.

  • In this experiments of design, vibration evaluation, and test of vehicles, aircraft, and other mechanisms the development of vibration simulator that serves environment similar to real fields takes lots of advantages. Especially, in the real field test of vehicles it possesses the advantages of showing the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle. In this study, to investigate the validity and fitness of proposed 6DOF parallel link mechanism we simulated that mechanism.

계측이 어려운 환경에 가설된 교량의 변위 추정 기술 개발 (Development of Displacement Estimation Technique for Bridges Located under Poor Measurement Circumstances)

  • 이 논문에서는, 변위-변형률 관계로부터 변위를 추정하는 선행 연구의 현장 적용성을 검토하기 위하여 실교량에 대한 현장재하실험을 실시하고, 그 결과에 대해 고찰하였다. 3경간 연속 IPC 거더 도로교 및 강합성 박스거더 경량전철 교량에 변위계 및 변형률 게이지를 부착하고, 재하차량에 의한 응답을 측정하였다. 현장재하실험을 통해 얻어진 실측 변형률을 변위로 변환시키기 위해 변위와 변형률의 관계를 이용하였다. 해석적인 방법으로 변위-변형률 관계를 도출하기 위해 연구대상 교량을 격자구조로 모형화하고 구조해석을 수행하였다. 연구결과, 사전 구조해석에 의해 얻어진 변위-변형률 관계와 실측 변형률을 이용하여 변위를 추정하여도 실용상 만족할 만한 결과를 도출할 수 있었다. 이 연구 결과는 향후 계측이 어려운 환경하에 놓여 있는 교량의 변위 측정에 널리 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • In this study, seismic performance tests for 500 kV EBA are conducted through the IEEE Std. 693. It is hard to conduct both the static tests and dynamic tests for 500 kV EBA as IEEE Std. 693 because the size of specimen, 9 m in height, is too large to be examined. To do so, it can cause the unnecessary time and cost, and also the damage on the specimen. However, in this study, both static tests and dynamic tests are conducted in the same test field as IEEE Std. 693 to achieve more accurate and reliable test results. From the test results Taihan Electric Wire Co. can win contract for 500 kV extra-high voltage project in the U.S.A., therefore it can be evaluated that the tests are conducted successfully and the capability to estimate large electric power facilities are achieved as IEEE Std. 693.

메트와 필드운동이 노인의 균형과 보행에 미치는 영향 (The effects of mat and field exercise on the balance and gait in older adults)

  • 65세 이상 노인 30명을 대상으로 매트 운동과 필드 운동을 6주간 실시한 후 운동전, 3주 후, 그리고 6주 후에 균형과 보행에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보기 위해 실시하였다. 측정은 외다리 기립 검사, 버그 균형 검사, 그리고 3차원 동작분석기를 이용하여 보행 분석을 실시하였다. 반복측정자료 분산분석 결과, 시간과 그룹 간 상호작용 효과는 활보길이에서 유의한 차이가 있었고, 외다리 기립, 버그 균형, 분속수, 속도는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 중재기간 별 효과크기를 검정해 본 결과 중재 전과 중재 6주 후, 중재 3주 후와 중재 6주 후에서 유의한 차이가 있었다.
