The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal sealing ability of Hipol composite resin. Using freshly extracted human teeth and 2% acquous methylene blue, the marginal leakage of dye in restorative materials such as Hi-pol, Adaptic, Nuvasystem, Epolite and Amalgam was investigated at 37℃ and under temperature cycling between 4℃ and 60℃. The results were as follows; 1. All the filling materials revealed the penetration of dye between cavity walls and restorations. 2. Hi-pol and Adaptic showed more marginal leakage than other materials and the degree of dye penetration in Hi-pol was similar to that of Adaptic. 3. Nuva system showed the least marginal leakage at 37℃ and under temperature cycling between 4℃ and 60℃. 4. Under temperature cycling, all materials showed a slight increase in marginal leakage except Epolite, which showed the greastest change in leakage.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of several intracoronal base materials to prevent cervical leakage of a bleaching agent into the dentinal tubules and along the root canal. In this study, thirty-two anterior teeth were used. After lingual access was prepared in each tooth, tooth was instrumented with a step-back technique to a Nos. 40-50 using K-type files. All teeth were obturated with a lateral condensation technique. Excess gutta percha was removed with a warm instrument to the facial level of the CEJ. Teeth were divided into four groups : Teeth in control group were not filled with base material. Teeth in groups 1, 2, and 3 had 2mm of gutta percha removed with a warm instrument, then Dycal, Fuki II LC and Z-100 were filled with palstic instruments on the top of the gutta percha respectively. All teeth were bleached for 7 days, fresh bleach was added for another 7 days, then a 10 % methylene blue dye was placed inside the access preparation. They were stored at $37^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$ humidity for 5 days. Each tooth was sectioned perpendicular to the long axis using a diamond disk. Initial cuts were made at the most coronal level of facial and lingual CEJ's, then another cuts continued appically in the levels of 0.5mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm respectively. The amount of dye leakage through the dentinal tubules was determined at each cut section. In addition, when the cut specimen was determined to be last penetration of any dye, this level was recorded as depth of apical leakage from the coronal terminus of the gutta percha, Dycal, Fuji II LC and Z-100. The acquired data were analyzed by Tukey's Multiple Range Test adn Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel Test to see if there was any statistically significant difference in dye penetration and linear apical leakage among the groups. The results were as follows : 1. Control group at levels of CEJ and 0.5mm, group 3 at level of 1.5mm, and group 2 AND 3 at level of 2.0mm showed the least dye penetration through the facial or lingual dentinal tubules, but there were no significant difference among three groups. 2. Group 2 at levels of CEJ and 0.5mm, group 3 at level of 1.5mm, and group 2 and 3 at level of 2.0mm showed the least dye penetration through the proximal dentinal tubules, but there were no significant difference among control group, group 2, and group 3. 3. Group 1 showed the greatest dye penetration through the facial or lingual and proximal dentinal tubules at all levels, and there were significant difference with other three groups. 4. Control group and group 1 showed 2mm apical dye leakage at facial or lingual and proximal aspects, group 2 showed 1.5mm, and group 3 showed 0.5mm.
Endodontically treated teeth are usually restored for crown protection, aesthetics, and prevention of root canal recontamination. Restoration of these teeth, however, often requires intracanal posts. Various depths and techniques have been recommended for the preparation of post space. Therefore the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect that pst preparation has on the coronal seal by linear dye penetration of root canals obturated by lateral condensation, vertical condensation, and thermafil techniques. Forty canals of roots of incisors and canines were cleaned and shaped with the use of a step-back technique. Thirty canals were obturated, 10 each with lateral, vertical, and thermafil techhniques. Five root canals were obturated without a root canal sealer and served as positive controls. Another five root canals were obturated, and their coronal half was sealed with sticky wax and served as negative controls. The apical 5 to 6mm of the filling materials were exposed to india ink for 48 hours. The depth of dye penetration was measured in all groups and statistically analyzed (ANOVA). The results were as follows. 1. The apical plugs in the thermafil groups had the highest degree of coronal dye leakage. 2. The group filled by vertical condensation technique had the lowest degree of coronal dye leakage. 3. No significant statistical difference was found in the amount of coronal dye leakage in canals filled by lateral condensation versus those filled by the veritcal condensation technique. 4. Significant statistical differences in coronal dye penetration were found between the canals filled by thermafil and those filled by the lateral or vertical condensation techniques (p<0.05).

Using freshly extracted human teeth and 2% aqueous methylene blue, the marginal leakage of dye in restorative materials such as vivadent with acid etching technique, Durafill with acid etching technique, silar with acid etching technique, Adaptic, and Amalgam were investigated at 37℃ and under temperature cycling in range of 4℃-60℃. The results were as follows; 1. All filling materials showed some degree of marginal penetration by 2% methylene blue dye. 2. Vivadent with acid etching technique revealed effective marginal sealing ability, but under temperature cycling it showed increased marginal leakage. 3. All resins showed greater marginal leakage than amalgam restoration. 4. Vivadent had the most effective marginal sealing ability in experimented resins.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal sealing ability of "Silar". Using freshly extracted human teeth and 2% acquous methylene blue, the marginal leakage of dye in restorative materials such as Silar, Silar with acid etching technique, Hi-Pol, Hi-Pol Enamel Bond system, Adaptic and Amalgam were investigated at $37^{\circ}C$ and under temperature cycling in range of $4^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$. The results as follows; 1. All filling materials showed some degree of marginal penetration by 2% methylene blue dye. 2. Silar with acid etching technique revealed effective marginal sealing ability, but under temperature cycling it showed increased marginal leakage. 3. All composite resins showed greater marginal leakage than amalgam restoration. 4. Silar had the most effective marginal sealing ability in experimented composite resins.
The authers have studied the marginal leakage on various filing materials : Composite resin, Polycarboxylate cement, Zinc phosphate cement, Silicate cement and Zinc-oxide eugenol cement, by means of penetration of 2% aquous methylene blue between cavity walls and filing materials at body temperature and at thermal changs in the range of 4~60℃ The results revealed as follows.
1) All the filling materials revealed the penetration of dye between cavity walls and filling materials.
2) Zinc-oxide eugenol cement was the most effective to prevent the dye penetration on the contrary silicate cement cases showed greatest leakage at 37℃ and at temperature changes in range of 4-60℃.
3) The composite resin showed moderate leakage either at 37℃ or at thermal changes
4) Marginal obstructions of polycarboxylate cement were unsatisfactory at 37℃ and at temperature changes.

PURPOSE. Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns provide the best treatment option for teeth that have a large or defective restoration. More than 20% of teeth with PFM crowns or bridges require non-surgical root canal treatment (NSRCT). This may be due to the effect of restorative procedures and the possible leakage of bacteria and or their by-products, which leads to the demise of the tooth pulp. Thus, this study was planned to compare the ability of the restorative materials to seal perforated PFM specimens. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study evaluates the ability of amalgam, composite or compomer restorative materials to close perforated PFM specimen's in-vitro. Ninety PFM specimens were constructed using Ni-Cr alloys and feldspathic porcelain, and then they were divided into 3 groups: amalgam (A), composite + Exite adhesive bond (B) and compomer + Syntac adhesive bond (C). All the PFM samples were embedded in an acrylic block to provide complete sealing of the hole from the bottom side. After the aging period, each group was further divided into 3 equal subgroups according to the thermocycling period (one week for 70 cycles, one month for 300 cycles and three months for 900 cycles). Each subgroup was put into containers containing dye (Pelikan INK), one maintained at $5^{\circ}C$ and the other at $55^{\circ}C$, each cycle for 30 sec time. The data obtained was analyzed by SPSS, 2006 using one way ANOVA test and student t-test and significant difference level at (P<.01). RESULTS. The depth of dye penetration was measured at the interfaces of PFM and filling materials using Co-ordinate Vernier Microscope. The lowest levels of the dye penetration for the three groups, as well as subgroups were during the first week. The values of dye leakage had significantly increased by time intervals in subgroups A and C. CONCLUSION. It was seen that amalgam showed higher leakage than composite while compomer showed the lowest level of leakage.
These studies were conducted to investigate the effects of Tongkwan-San water extract on analgesic, sedatative, anti-inflammatory, blood pressure and vasodilating actions, the relaxing action of isolated ileums and actions on the contact dermatitis induced by picryl chloride and on the leakage of the dye into the peritoneal cavity. The results of these studies were summarized as follows: The analgesic effect of Tongkwan-San was noted. The prolongation of anesthetic time of Tongkwan-San was recognized. Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice were strongly suppressed by Tongkwan-San. It inhibited the contractions of isolated ileum of mice induced by acetylcholine and barium chloride and the contraction of isolated ileum of guinea-pig induced by histamine. Inhibition of the contact dermatitis induced by picryl chloride was recognized. Anti-inflammatory effects in the paw edema induced by histamine and dextran were significantly shown. The leakage of dye into the peritoneal cavity in mice was significantly inhibited. Hypotensive and vasodilating action due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation were noted in rats and rabbits.
The marginal integrity of the crown can be broken during endodontic access cavity preparation due to the vibration of burs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of endodontic access cavity preparation on the marginal leakage of full veneer gold crowns. 24 intact molars were mounted in acrylic resin blocks and prepared for crowns by a restorative dentist and crowns were cast with gold alloy. 20 Crowns were cemented with glass ionomer cement and 2 crowns were not cemented for positive control. 200 thermo-cycles from 5$^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$ with a travel time of 20s were completed. Then samples were randomly divided into 2 experimental groups of 9 each. Endodontic access preparation and zinc-oxide eugenol temporary fillings were done in Group 1. Teeth in Group 2 were not treated. Samples were coated with 2 layers of nail varnish and were immersed in 1% methylene blue dye for 20 hrs. Endodontic access was prepared in 2 samples, which were coated with nail varnish on all surfaces for negative control. After washing in running water gold crowns were cut with a #330 bur. Four buccolingual sections, 2 mm apart, were cut from the central section of each tooth and were examined and scored under the microscope for dye leakage. Score 1: leakage to the cervical 1/3 of the axial wall, Score 2: leakage to the middle 1/3 of the axial wall, Score 3: leakage to the coronal 1/3 of the axial wall, Score 4: leakage to the occlusal surface. The median value for Group 1 is 4 and for Group 2 is 2. The result of this study showed that samples in Group 1 leaked more than those in Group 2. This finding was significant(P<0.001).
The author has studied comparatively the sealing quality of conventional Z.O.E. cement, chloropercha and FR cement by means of penetration of 2% methylene blue solution through the apex of human teeth in 112 cases as the time elapsed. The results were as follows; 1. All the specimen, of which dye immersion time is three days, showed dye penetration of low degree unrelated to the kinds of root canal cement and the degree of dye penetration was increased as the time elapsed. 2. Of all the experimental group, the Z.O.E. cement group showed the lowest degree of dye penetration and the FR filling group showed the highest degree of dye penetration. 3. The degree of dye penetration of FR cement group was higher than that of the Z.O.E. cement group but lower than that of the chloropercha group.
