Consideration of the Effect of Miscellaneous Factors on Frost Resistance of High Strength Concrete by Using the Factorial Design Method

  • Factorial design method is applied to investigate the effects of various factors simultaneously rather than to conduct a series of single-factor experiment. As the results, frost resistance of the concrete specimens, in both W/C ratio of 0.28 and 0.35, was highly affected by the type of coarse aggregate that is, andesite produced more durable concrete than the limestone. Durability factor of the specimens, with W/C ratio of 0.28, which were demolded after I day and transferred to the curing room was higher than those demolded after 2 days. This stated the efficiency of the high early curing in high strength concrete.

  • In this study the mechanical properties of various wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete mixtures are investigated. A properly designed porous concrete pavements provides a durable riding surface. It also eliminates puddles and standing water, resulting in improved skid resistance. The most popular application is that of light-traffic volume roadways such as parking lots, resident roads, driveways, and sidewalks. Flexural strength and toughness index are examined for wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete. Type of Wire mesh is divided into three cases, A type, B type and C type. It shows A type is most excellent shape of destruction of slab specimen is similar to that of flexural specimen. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a pilot study undertaken to examine the extent to which wire mesh reinforced porous concrete can be used as a continuous paving materials.

  • Marine concrete structures have been exposed to salt from ocean environments. Chloride-penetration into marine concrete structures should accelerate the corrosion of reinforcement steel, which may severely affect the durability of them. Major concerns are to develop durable concrete for high corrosion resistance of reinforcing steel embedded in concrete. The objective of this experimental study is to investigate adequate usage of corrosion inhibitors by evaluating corrosion level in 80 specimen located in the labatory and in the site. 80 specimen of cube 20${\times}$20${\times}$11.5 and 63 specimen of slab 30${\times}$30${\times}$10 are made for this study.

  • Due to increased demands for durable and high-performance concrete structures, the use of admixtures has become essential. In this paper, material properties, and durability of concrete mixed with natural inorganic minerals(R-1) are obtained from test results. Through the comparisons with OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) concrete, the R-1 concrete shows improved compressive strength and durability.

  • Decing agent with chloride promote frost damage of concrete structure in winter period. From the safetyside, however, it is difficult to stop using chloride. Therefore, the durable concrete is required from now on. In this paper, long-term freezing and thawing test was carried out using the freezing water containing $CaCl_{2}$ to consider the concrete scaling according to the kind of binders, such as OPC, Flyash, Slag+Fa. and Slag As a result, it was found that the degree of scaling is different with containing slag being considered to prevent the penetration chloride ion and according to each binders.

콘크리트 구조물의 친환경 내구성 도장에 관한 기초 연구 (A Study on the Eco-Friendly Durable Pre-Painting for Concrete Structure)

  • 최근 건설 기술의 발달과 건설 환경 변화로 인하여 콘크리트 구조물이 대형화, 고층화되고 있으며 그에 따른 구조물 유지관리와 성능향상을 위한 보수 보강 및 주변환경과의 조화 등 외관을 중시하는 경향이 늘어가고 있다. 본 연구는 토목, 건축분야에서 사용되고 있는 콘크리트 구조물에 적용 가능한 친환경 내구성 도장에 관한 것으로, 기존 유 무기질계 도장재의 온도변화에 따른 신축성, 외벽과의 접착성, 균열과 박리로 인한 내구성 문제를 보완하고 외적 미관 향상에 목적이 있다. 그 방법으로 전처리 혼합물에 고농축 방수액과 접착증강재를 균일하게 혼합한 친환경 전처리 페인트를 조성하여 콘크리트 중성화방지, 내마모성, 은폐력, 접착력, 온도저항성, 내화학성등의 내구성 시험을 하였다. 그 결과, 친환경 전처리 페인트의 도장에 따른 은폐율은 시험기준인 0.96 이상으로 나타났으며, 내마모성시험에서도 일반 수성페인트값 75mg 보다 우수한 1mg의 값을 얻었으며, 인장강도는 방수시방서 기준보다 6.5배 크게 나타났다.

The effect of attack of chloride and sulphate on ground granulated blast furnace slag concrete

  • This concrete is one of the most versatile construction material widely used for almost a century now. It was considered to be very durable material and required a little or no maintenance since long time. The assumption is very true, except when it is subjected to highly aggressive environments. The deterioration of concrete structures day by day due to aggressive environment is compelling engineers to assess the loss in advance so that proper preventive measure can be taken to achieve required durability to concrete structures. The compounds present in cement concrete are attacked by many salt solutions and acids. These chemicals are encountered by almost all concrete structures. The present study has been undertaken to investigate the effect of attack of chlorides and sulphates with varying severity on compressive strength of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) concrete after immersion in salt solution for 28 days. The results indicate that the durability of GGBFS concrete increases with the increase in percentage replacement of cement by GGBFS for 20% and then gradually decreases with increases in percentage of GGBFS with cement (as in the study for 40% and 60%). Also there is increase in strength of GGBFS concrete with increase in age. Thus the durability of concrete improves when GGBFS is added as partial replacement of cement. In this study the strength of GGBFS concrete is less affected by chemicals as compared to conventional concrete when exposed to aggressive environment.

  • Frefab Construction known for durable construction skill prompting high productivity in developed country is not yet settled in Korea. This situation of prefab construction results from lack of skill, specialists and quality control. In introducing skill, all equipments are thoughtlessly imported without inside eudeavor for development. Regardless of production of goods, basic study for production of goods, construction and structure is not abailable. The object of this study is curing method in the production process of PC concrete product. From change of curing temperature and curing period which would be factors of product quality in PC concrete production, and research of optimized steam curing condition from relations between curing condition and strength development, basic data of concrete steam curing method will be presented.

부식을 고려한 콘크리트 교량의 최대 균열폭 제어 (Maximum Crack Width Control in Concrete Bridges Affected By Corrosion)

  • As one of the serviceability limit states, the prediction and control of crack width in reinforced concrete bridges or PSC bridges are very important for the design of durable structures. However, the current bridge design specifications do not provide quantitative information for the prediction and control of crack width affected by the initiation and propagation of corrosion. Considering life span of concrete bridges, an improved control equation about the crack width affected by time-dependent general corrosion is proposed. The developed corrosion and crack width control models can be used for the design and the maintenance of prestressed and non-prestressed reinforcements by varying time, w/c, cover depth, and geometries of the sections. It can also help the rational criteria for the quantitative management and the prediction of remaining life of concrete structures.

  • This study is analyzed mechanical properties and durability of pavement of a road permeability porous concrete to mix polymer for the enhance of porous concrete of performance and durability. As a result, void ratio showed the tendency which the mixing rate of polymer is decreased a little as increased. And, the influence of void ratio according to the kind of polymer has the difference, but void ratio showed the tendency which the mixing rate of polymer is decreased a little as increased. Compressive strength showed the tendency which the mixing rate of polymer is increased a little as increased. but, it showed the tendency to be reduced rather when above $20\%$ it mixed polymer mixing rate $10\%$ at apex.
