  • Climate changes are shifting the perception of C4 photosynthetic crops due to their superior adaptability to harsh conditions. The tribe Andropogoneae includes some economically important grasses, such as Zea mays, Sorghum bicolor, Miscanthus spp., and Saccharum spp., representing C4 photosynthetic grasses. Although the Andropogoneae grasses diverged fairly recently, their genomic structures are remarkably different from each other. As previously reported, the family Poaceae shares the pan-cereal duplication event occurring ca. 65 MYA. Since this event, Sorghum bicolor has never experienced any additional duplication event. However, some lineage-specific duplication events were reported in Z. mays and Saccharum spp., and, more recently, it was revealed that a shared allotetraploidization event occurred before the divergence between Miscanthus and Saccharum (but after the divergence from S. bicolor), which provided important clues to those two species having large genome sizes with complicated ploidy numbers. The complex genomic structures of sugarcane and Miscanthus (defined as the Saccharum complex along with some other taxa) have had a limiting effect on the use of their molecular information in breeding programs. For the last decade, genomics-associated technologies have become an important tool for molecular crop breeding (genomics-assisted breeding, GAB), but it has not been directly applied to sugarcane and Miscanthus due to their complicated genome structures. As genomics research advances, molecular breeding of those crops can take advantage of technical improvements at a reasonable cost through comparative genomic approaches. Active genomic research of non-model species using closely related model species will facilitate the improvement of those crops in the future.

  • Distal 3D Real Object Duplication System(RODS) consists of 3D Scanner and Solid Freeform Fabrication System(SFFS). It is a device to make three-dimensional objects directly from the drawing or the scanning data. In this research, we developed an office type SFFS based on Three Dimensional Printing Process and a industrial SFFS using Dual Laser. An office type SFFS applied sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer(SMCSPO) algorithm for control of this system. And we measured process variables about droplet diameter measurement and powder bed formation etc. through experiments. Also, in order to develop more elaborate and speedy system for large objects than existing SLS process, this study applies a new Selective Multi-Laser Sintering(SMLS) process and 3-axis dynamic Focusing Scanner for scanning large area instead of the existing $f\theta$ lens. In this process, the temperature has a great influence on sintering of the polymer. Also the laser parameters are considered like that laser beam power, scan speed, scan spacing. Now, this study is in progress to eveluate the effect of experimental parameters on the sintering process.

  • As companies introduced ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems since the middle of 1990s, the databases of the companies has become centralized and gigantic. The companies are now developing data-mining based applications on those centralized and gigantic databases for knowledge management. Almost of them are using $Pro^*C$/C++, a embedded SQL programming language, and it's because the $Pro^*C$/C++ is independent of platforms and also fast. However, they suffer from difficulties in development and maintenance due to the characteristics of corporate databases which have intrinsically large number of tables and fields. The purpose of this research is to design and implement a methodology which makes it easier to develop and maintain embedded SQL applications based on relational databases. Firstly, this article analyzes the syntax of $Pro^*C$/C++ and addresses the concept of repetition and duplication which causes the difficulties in development and maintenance of corporate information systems. Then, this article suggests a management architecture of source codes and databases in which a preprocessor generates $Pro^*C$/C++ source codes by referring a DB table specification, which would solve the problem of repetition and duplication. Moreover, this article also suggests another architecture of DB administration in which the preprocessor generates DB administration commands by referring the same table specification, which would solve the problem of repetition and duplication again. The preprocessor, named $PrePro^*C$, has been developed under the UNIX command-line prompt environment to preprocess $Pro^*C$/C++ source codes and SQL administration commands, and is under update to be used in another DB interface environment like ODBC and JDBC, too.

  • Traditional off-the-shelf file server has several potential drawbacks to store data blocks. A first drawback is a lack of practical de-duplication consideration for storing data blocks, which leads to worse storage capacity waste. Second drawback is the requirement for high performance computer system for processing large data blocks. To address these problems, this paper proposes a clustering backup system that exploits file fingerprinting mechanism for block-level de-duplication. Our approach differs from the traditional file server systems in two ways. First, we avoid the data redundancy by multi-level file fingerprints technology which enables us to use storage capacity efficiently. Second, we applied a cluster technology to I/O subsystem, which effectively reduces data I/O time and network bandwidth usage. Experimental results show that the requirement for storage capacity and the I/O performance is noticeably improved.

  • This study describes the meaning of and the formula for Kor-$h_T$, which is a modified index built on the tapered h-index by applying 'the ranking according to the number of citations of journals'. This study evaluated the de-duplication rate of index values of Kor-$h_T$ and analyzed the change in the correlation between the index values and evaluation elements using the Korea Citation Index data from 2008 to 2010. Kor-$h_T$ is compared with h-index, tapered h-index, and IF. As a result, Kor-$h_T$ appeared to be superior to other indexes on de-duplication rate. It is also shown that there is a very strong positive correlation between the evaluation elements, the number of citations and the number of articles of journals, and the index values of Kor-$h_T$.

  • Various applications are widely developed for smartphones to meet customer's needs. In many companies, messenger's typed interactive systems have been studied for business marketing, advertising and promotion to provide useful services for the customers. Such interactive systems are usually called as "Chatbot". In Chatbot, duplicated responses from Chatbot could occur frequently, and these make one lose interest. In this paper, we define a case that the response of Chatbot is duplicated according to the user's input, and propose a method to reduce duplicated responses of Chatbot. In the proposed method, we try to reduce duplication responses through a new duplication avoidance algorithm by building multiple tables in a database and by making combinations of user's input and its response in each table. In our experiments, the proposed method shows that duplicated responses are reduced by an average of 70%, compared with the existing method.

  • Distal limb deformities are congenital malformations with phenotypic variability and high genetic heterogeneity. Split hand/foot malformation, also known as ectrodactyly, is a congenital limb malformation characterized by a defect of the central rays of the hands and/or feet. Split hand/foot malformation with long-bone deficiency (SHFLD) is a rare condition related to a 17p13.3 duplication. Recently, genomic duplications encompassing BHLHA9 have been associated with SHFLD. We report a case of SHFLD presenting with campomelia of the right femur, bilateral agenesis of fibulae, bilateral club feet, and oligosyndactyly of the hands and feet, that was associated with a 17p13.3 duplication, as determined prenatally using array comparative genomic hybridization.

  • In recent years, datacenters, network devices and computers have proliferated. The power consumed by information and communication technology (ICT) devices has inflated in an extraordinary manner. Green communication has emerged as a new approach to reduce and optimize power consumption in ICT sector. Many methods and protocols have been proposed and implemented to achieve green communication. Nevertheless, the increase of power consumption remains a problem. In this work, we attempt to reduce and optimize power consumption of network devices in datacenters environment utilizing software defined network (SDN) paradigm. To gain more insight of the power consumption requirements of network switches, a power measurement system is constructed to measure power consumption levels of network devices. Subsequently, we propose a duplication resolver algorithm (DRA) to power off/on switches reactively. DRA algorithm reduces the required time by switches to construct their flow tables after rebooting. To this end, DRA-based external circuit has been constructed utilizing Ethernet module and an Arduino kit to control power supplies of network devices. To facilitate our work, a testbed has been constructed utilizing Ryu SDN controller, HP2920-24G switches and Arduino kits. Our results show that DRA algorithm can reduce both the power usage and start-up time delay of network switches after failures.

  • There are many security models for database systems using policy-based access control. RBAC (Role-based Access Control) is used for complementing MAC (Mandatory Access Control) and DAC (Discretionary Access Control) and is for performing flexibly security policies meet applied environment. We implemented the database security system that applies DAC, MAC, and RBAC to meet security requirements of users. However, security policies are constructed redundantly whenever security policies are needed to each user in this system. Even though the proposed security system can flexibly control more complicated 'read' access to various data sizes for individual users, it is obvious that there is a possibility that a new policy can be a duplication of existing policies. In this paper, we introduce the problem of policy duplication and propose the policy management module. With this proposed module, constructed policies are checked for duplication and deleted or merged with existing policies.
