This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of a small chamber sampling and analytical method for the measurement of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) and formaldehyde (HCHO) emission from building materials. While VOC was determined by the adsorbent tube sampling and sequential thermal desorption coupled with GC/MSD analysis, formaldehyde sampled with DNPH-silica cartridge was analyzed by HPLC. Wide-range performance criteria such as repeatability, desorption efficiency, emission chamber recovery test, duplicate precision, breakthrough volume and method detection limits were investigated for the evaluation of small chamber method. The overall precision of the small chamber sampling and analytical methods was estimated within 20~30% for target compounds. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the small chamber sampling and analytical method can be reliably applied for the measurement of building materials pollutants.
Time synchronization algorithm in wireless sensor networks is essential to various applications such as object tracking, data encryption, duplicate detection, and precise TDMA scheduling. This paper describes CDRS that is a time synchronization algorithm using the Clock Drift rate and Reference Signals between two sensor nodes. CDRS is composed of two steps. At first step, the time correction is calculated using offset and the clock drift rate between the two nodes based on the LTS method. Two nodes become a synchronized state and the time variance can be compensated by the clock drift rate. At second step, the synchronization node transmits reference signals periodically. This reference signals are used to calculate the time difference between nodes. When this value exceeds the maximum error tolerance, the first step is performed again for resynchronization. The simulation results on the performance analysis show that the time accuracy of the proposed algorithm is improved, and the energy consumption is reduced 2.5 times compared to the time synchronization algorithm with only LTS, because CDRS reduces the number of message about 50% compared to LTS and reference signals do not use the data space for timestamp.
The fission track registration techniques for accurate determinations of uranium in solid- and liquid-state geological materials were recommended and their applicability were examined. The determination of uranium can be achieved by optical counting of neutron-induced fission tracks of $^{235}U$ registered on solid-state track detectors under high magnification. In a dry registration method using powdered pellets of rocks (e.g., granite and coal) showing good uranium-affinity, it was not easy to decide an overall mean concentration over the total sample owing to track-clusters caused by frequent presence of uranium-bearing minerals. Separate scanning for homogeneous and track-clustered parts may be an alternative choice. Assuring the homogeneity over the whole sample, high reproducibilities were confirmed both from duplicate detections using mica and Lexan polycarbonate detectors and from multiple measurements at different thermal neutron fluences. The wet registration method using sealed quartz tubes is recommended to overcome the common heterogeneity in uranium concentrations of $10^1ppm$ and more. Adopting the wet registration, the uranium homogeneity was recovered below the $10^0ppm$ level and the lower detection limit was proved to reach without difficulty the $10^2ppb$ (i.e. $ng\;g^{-1}$) level.
Intramuscular fat content(lMF) is considered as one of major economic traits in the pig breeding and industry. In general, high IMF results in better meat quality. Several approaches to detect quantitative trait 10ci( QTL) for IMF indicated a strong possibility of the existence of a QTL related to IMF between the microsatellite marker SW71 and SW1881 on SSC6q. Porcine FABP3 has been considered as a candidate gene affecting IMF due to its physiological roles and position on the pig genome. Two novel mutations, g.-114T> C and g.-158T>G were detected by duplicate sequencing of the porcine FABP3 promoter region. These two mutations were identified as absolute linkage disequilibrium. The g.-158T> G mutation was used for investigating relationships with growth and fat deposition traits. The GG genotype of the g.-158T> G polymorphism showed highly negative effects(P< 0.01) on body weights at 3 and 12 weeks of age, and a positive effect(P< 0.05) on IMF. However, backfat thickness(BF) and carcass fat(CF) content were not significantly associated with the genotype. The result indicates that the novel mutations, identified in this study, could be utilized as possible genetic markers to improve IMF, independent with BF.

Recently P2P (Peer-to-Peer) networks and applications have been expanded to various field. However, because the construction of P2P network did not influence a underlying network topology or property, it may be inefficient. Especially, this inefficiency is more serious in MANET because MANET has narrow bandwidth and energy constraint. When we use a proactive routing protocol in MANET, we can know hop counts between two nodes. And, we can construct a P2P overlay network using this hop count information. However, In case of using hop count only, we can avoid a interference path selection problem and a zig-zag problem. We propose a method of improving P2P contents distribution using virtual positions. We calculate virtual positions from hop counts using the trigonometry. This method solves a interference path selection problem and a zig-zag problem. This method also allows a P2P network to influence underlying network topology. We adopt this method to a network which uses a virtual geographic routing, a proactive routing protocol, or a reactive routing protocol. We show that our proposed methods improve P2P contents distribution performance over MANET through a simulation.

This study analyzed patent trends of seismic nodal systems and the technical characteristics of core patents of three major companies, including Fairfield, Sercel, and Wireless Seismic, to examine the focus of technology development of each company. From the analysis, the patent application growth rate of seismic nodal systems has steadily increased since early to mid-2000s and has recently shown a higher growth rate. Over the same period, the patent application growth rate of the three major companies examined was higher than that of the global trend, and patent infringement cases was also examined to evaluate market competition in this field. Analysis of the technical characteristics of the three companies' 33 core patents showed that they are generally focused on seismic signal detection. Sub-technologies included improved reliability of data acquisition, data transmission efficiency, and overall operating of the seismic nodal system. New entrants in field of technology development or manufacturing of seismic nodal systems where the market is growing must closely analyze the contents of major companies' products and patents to prevent possible patent disputes or duplicate research.

Additional frequencies are allocated in maritime digital data exchange to alleviate overload of the VHF data link. The shipborne ad-hoc network (SANET) for this frequencies was subsequently proposed, which provides various IP-based services to ships on behalf of satellite communications. In SANET, a ship should determine its own IP address to achieve IP connectivity to the shore. Accordingly, this paper proposes a SANET configuration (SANETconf) protocol as an IP configuration protocol. SANETconf propagates non-overlapping IP addresses across the network from the shore to ships. A ship obtains its IP address by exchanging Request and Response messages with its neighbors. Therefore, SANETconf eliminates the process of DAD and managing the movement of ships. Extensive simulations were performed to verify the applicability of SANETconf. Based on results, 85% of the ships can determine their own IP address within one frame. Also, SANETconf has a high resource efficiency by using 0.024 percent of resources for IP configuration.
The incorporation of RAPD markers into the previous classical and RFLP genetic linkage maps will facilitate the generation of a detailed genetic map by compensating for the lack of one type of marker in the region of interest. The objective of this paper was to present features we observed when we associated RAPD map from an intraspecific cross of a Glycine max$\times$G. max, 'Essex'$\times$PI 437654 with the public RFLP map developed from an interspecific cross of G. max$\times$G. soja. Among 27 linkage groups of RAPD map, eight linkage groups contained probe/enzyme combination RFLP markers, which allowed us the incorporation of RAPD markers into the public RFLP map. Map position rearrangement was observed. In incorporating L.G.C-3 into the public RFLP linkage group a1 and a2, both pSAC3 and pA136 region, and pA170/EcoRV and pB170/HindIII region were in opposite order, respectively. And, pk400 was localized 1.8 cM from pA96-1 and 8.4 cM from pB172 in the public RFLP map, but was localized 9.9 cM from i locus and 18.9 cM from pA85 in our study. A noticeable expansion of the map distances in the intraspecific cross of Essex and PI 437654 was also observed. Map distance between probes pA890 and pK493 in L.G.C-1 was 48.6 cM, but it was only 13.3 cM in the public RFLP map. The distances from the probe pB32-2 to pA670 and from pA670 to pA668 in L.G. C-2 were 50.9 cM and 31.7 cM, but they were 35.9 cM and 13.5 cM in the public RFLP map. The detection of duplicate loci from the same probe that were mapped on the same or/and different linkage group was another feature we observed.
