This paper describes an application of the adaptive finite element computations to a free surface flow problem in a canal. A-posteriori error estimates for the adaptive finite element computations are based on the dual extremum principles. Previously the dual extremum principles were applied to compute the upper and lower bounds of the added mass of two-dimensional cylinders in a canal[1,2]. However, the present method improves the convergence of the computed results by utilizing the local error estimates and by applying the adaptive meshes in the finite element computations. In a test result using triangular elements it is shown that the numerical error in the adaptive finite elements reduces quadratically compared with that in a uniform mesh subdivision.
The present study investigated the sleep patterns 1-to 3-year-old children and examined whether their sleep patterns would predict their early adjustment to daycare centers. The participants were 239 young children attending daycare centers in Seoul. The data on children's sleep patterns were collected by parent report. Children's adjustment to daycare was assessed by daycare providers' reports. The data were analyzed by means of Chi-square test, t-test, Pearson's correlation, ANOVA and discriminant analysis. The results were as follows: Children from dual-earner families had shorter nocturnal sleep duration than those from single-earner families. There was no significant relation between daytime sleep duration and sleep-onset time at night. It was found that children who go to bed earlier were more likely to get sufficient sleep without nocturnal wakefulness. Age and total sleep duration were seen to be significant variables when it came to discriminating between the adjustment versus maladjustment groups.
The purpose of this work is to analyze the effect of structure parameter disturbance on the dynamic characteristics of a hydropower station powerhouse. A vibration model with a head-cover system is established, and then the general disturbance problem analysis methods are discussed. Two new formulae based on two types of disturbances are developed from existing methods. The correctness and feasibility of these two formulae are validated by analyzing the hydropower station powerhouse vibration model. The appropriate calculation method for disturbance of the hydropower station powerhouse vibration dynamic characteristics is derived.
AFM tip has been used for surface profiling with a fine resolution, but there is a barrier to improve its performance because of the low aspect ratio. Many researchers have solved this problem with attaching carbon nanotube (CNT) to Si-tip. In this paper, we proposed the aligner system that composed of dual type stage system, and these stages could attach a carbon nanotube to tungsten-tip in vacuum condition. We used tungsten tip instead of Si-tip because of its conductivity. The aligner system proposed in this paper has 10 degree-of-freedom that 3 in the first stage and 7 in the second stage. With picomotors and piezotube, the first stage has the resolution about several tens of nm and the second stage has a resolution about a nm. We experimented on characterization of Nano Aligner System and operated picomotors in SEM environment.
In a dual lens stereoscopic camera, a convergence point determines the stereopsis effects of a video. When a user zooms an object, a convergence point is fixed since it is not coupled with a zoom function. Due to the fixed convergence point, it is possible for a zoom to cause the excessive binocular disparity resulting in visual discomfort. In this paper, to solve this problem, we build the relational model including all phenomena possible to arise and propose the adjustment methods of a convergence point by the positions of a focus, an object and a convergence point. We also evaluate the experiments measuring a binocular disparity and the subjective test to investigate the visual comfort. The results show that one of the proposed methods produced more comfortable 3D images to viewers than the others.
Instead of using signal-to-noise ratio, we attempt to optimize both the mean and variance responses using dual response optimization technique. The alternative experimental strategy analyzes a robust parameter design problem to obtain the best settings that give a target condition on the mean while minimizing its variance. The mean and variance are treated as the two responses of interest to be optimized. Unlike to the crossed array and combined array approaches, our experimental setup requires replicated runs for each control factor's treatment under noise sampling. When the postulated response models are true, they enable the coefficients to be estimated and the desired performance measure to be analyzed more efficiently. The procedure and illustrative example are given for the dual response optimization techniques of nonlinear goal programming.
Nowadays, bidirectional DC-DC converters are becoming more into picture for different applications especially electric vehicles. There are many bidirectional DC-DC converters topologies; however, voltage-fed Dual Half-Bridge (DHB) topology has less number of switches as compared to other isolated bidirectional DC-DC converters. Furthermore, voltage fed DHB has galvanic isolation, high power density, reduced size, high efficiency and hence cost effective. Electrolytic capacitors always have problem regarding size and reliability in DC-AC single phase inverters. Therefore, voltage-fed DHB converter is proposed for the purpose of power decoupling to replace electrolytic capacitor by film capacitors. A new control strategy has been developed for 120Hz ripple rejection, and it was verified by simulation.

The Probability Hypothesis Density (PHD) filter is a suboptimal approximation and tractable alternative to the multi-target Bayesian filter based on random finite sets. However, the PHD filter fails to track newborn targets when the target birth intensity is unknown prior to tracking. In this paper, a dual detection-guided newborn target intensity PHD algorithm is developed to solve the problem, where two schemes, namely, a newborn target intensity estimation scheme and improved measurement-driven scheme, are proposed. First, the newborn target intensity estimation scheme, consisting of the Dirichlet distribution with the negative exponent parameter and target velocity feature, is used to recursively estimate the target birth intensity. Then, an improved measurement-driven scheme is introduced to reduce the errors of the estimated number of targets and computational load. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve good performance in terms of target states, target number and computational load when the newborn target intensity is not predefined in multi-target tracking systems.

In the practical communication environment, the accurate channel state information (CSI) is difficult to obtain, which will cause the mismatch of resource and degrade the system performance. In this paper, to account for the channel uncertainties, a robust power allocation scheme for a downlink Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) heterogeneous network (HetNet) is designed to maximize energy efficiency (EE), which can ensure the quality of service (QoS) of users. We conduct the robust optimization model based on worse-case method, in which the channel gains belong to certain ellipsoid sets. To solve the non-convex non-liner optimization, we transform the optimization problem via Dinkelbach method and sequential convex programming, and the power allocation of small cell users (SCUs) is achieved by Lagrange dual approach. Finally, we analysis the convergence performance of proposed scheme. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve total EE of SCUs, and has a fast convergence performance.
The present research deals with the investigation of the effect of hall current in an orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic medium with two temperature in the context of multi-phase-lag heat transfer due to thermomechanical sources. The bounding surface is subjected to linearly distributed and concentrated loads(mechanical and thermal source).Laplace and Fourier transform techniques are used to solve the problem. The expressions for displacement components, stress components and conductive temperature are derived in transformed domain and furtherin physical domain with the help of numerical inversion techniques. The effect ofrotation and hall parameter hasshown with the help of graphs.
