The fingerprint image quality relies on the clearness of separated ridges by valleys and the uniformity of the separation. The condition of skin still dominate the overall quality of the fingerprint. However, the identification performance of such system is very sensitive to the quality of the captured fingerprint image. Fingerprint image quality analysis and enhancement are useful in improving the performance of fingerprint identification systems. A fuzzy technique is introduced in this paper for both fingerprint image quality analysis and enhancement. First, the quality analysis is performed by extracting four features from a fingerprint image which are the local clarity score (LCS), global clarity score (GCS), ridge_valley thickness ratio (RVTR), and the Global Contrast Factor (GCF). A fuzzy logic technique that uses Mamdani fuzzy rule model is designed. The fuzzy inference system is able to analyse and determinate the fingerprint image type (oily, dry or neutral) based on the extracted feature values and the fuzzy inference rules. The percentages of the test fuzzy inference system for each type is as follow: For dry fingerprint the percentage is 81.33, for oily the percentage is 54.75, and for neutral the percentage is 68.48. Secondly, a fuzzy morphology is applied to enhance the dry and oily fingerprint images. The fuzzy morphology method improves the quality of a fingerprint image, thus improving the performance of the fingerprint identification system significantly. All experimental work which was done for both quality analysis and image enhancement was done using the DB_ITS_2009 database which is a private database collected by the department of electrical engineering, institute of technology Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya, Indonesia. The performance evaluation was done using the Feature Similarity index (FSIM). Where the FSIM is an image quality assessment (IQA) metric, which uses computational models to measure the image quality consistently with subjective evaluations. The new proposed system outperformed the classical system by 900% for the dry fingerprint images and 14% for the oily fingerprint images.

In this study, seasonal variations of the dry deposition velocity and deposition flux for the sulfur dioxide were analysed. The field observation was performed during one year (from November 1, 1995 to October 31, 1996) in Chunchon basin. The turbulence data were measured by 3-dimensional sonic anemometer/thermometer, and were estimated by mean meteorological data obtained at two heights (2.5 m and 10 m) of meteorological tower. Also, the estimation methods were evaluated by comparing the turbulence data. The results showed that the estimated dry deposition velocity and turbulence parameter such as uc and sensible heat flux using mean meteorological data were relatively similar to the sonic measurements, but all showed somewhat large differences. The dry deposition velocity was large in summer and small in winter mainly due to canopy resistance (rc). The major factor which affects diurnal variation of the velocity was aerodynamic resistance (rw). The SO2 dry deposition flux was large in winter and small in summer in Chunchon.
Twelve-year-old rootstocks of sycamore and sweetgum were coppiced at monthly intervals for one year. Sprout growth was measured three and five years after cutting. After three years, average dry weight of the sprouts cut in May, June and July was lower by 36% for sycamore and by 24% for sweetgum than those cut during the other months of the year. However, these differences were reduced to be 23% and 14%, respectively, after five years.
In order to clarify an effect of seedling weight on the growth pattern of ginseng, seedlings ranged from 0.4g plant to 1.8g plant were transplanted, and then the characters of 5- and 6-year-old ginseng were investigated. The characters of root and leaf, such as length and diameter of main root, root weight, leaf area, and leaf dry weight of 5- and 6-year-old ginseng originated from large seedlings were superior as compared with those from small seedlings, and percentage of missing plant was increased with the increase of seedling weight. There were, however, no significant difference in stem length, stem dry weight, number of seeds per plant and number of palmate leaves and leaflets per plant in 5- and 6-year-old ginseng and these characters were not affected by the weight of seedings transplanted. Root field per unit area was higher in seedings of above 0.6g/plant than in small seedlings.

Pasture formation and management are crucial to avoid yield reduction. This experiment aimed to examine the effects of tall fescue-centered mixed-seeding combinations on yield and vegetation changes in perennial pastures in the central region for two years, from September 2020 to October 2022. The treatments were arranged in three replications in a randomized block design: control (C), tall fescue-based mixture-1 (T-1), and tall fescue-based mixture-2 (T-2). The tall fescue (TF), orchard grass (OG), perennial ryegrass (PRG), Kentucky bluegrass (KBG), and white clover (WC) were used. The emergency rate of grasses (70.0 to 73.3%) did not differ among mixed seeding combinations. Overwintering rates (81.7 to 83.3%) were similar among treatments. The plant height of grasses was similar at each harvest date, with the highest height (86.2 cm) recorded in the second harvest of the first year, followed by that (58.4 cm) in the third harvest of the first year; it was least (38.9 cm) in the fourth harvest of the second year. There was no significant difference in the dry matter yield of grasses among the mixed seeding combination treatments in the first, third, or fourth harvests of the first year (p>0.05). For second-year grasses, dry matter yield was not significantly different in harvest date among the treatments (p>0.05). Based on mixed seeding ratio, orchard grass showed the highest yield at 70% in the C treatment, followed by tall fescue at 80% and 60% in the T-1 and T-2 treatments, respectively, in the first harvest after seeding. There was no significant difference in feed value between treatments (p>0.05), but a significant difference was observed between the third and fourth harvest (p<0.05). Therefore, it indicated that it is important to create perennial pastures in the central region through mixed seeding combinations centered on tall fescue.
The present paper deals with nine kinds of trace metal contents among 79 samples, more than 20 species of edible marine algae collected during 1973∼1975 along the coasts of Korea. Among the metals detected by the atomic absorption spectrometer, Mg content is variable in 2.09∼13.84mg/g-dry on an average and 5.31mg/g-dry in a mean of green, brown and red algae, whereas Fe is 0.148∼2.343 and 0.747mg/g-dry; Mn 0.015∼0.191 and 0.063mg/g-dry; Zn 0.007∼0.082 and 0.030 mg/g-dry; Cu 0.005∼0.054 and 0.017mg/g-dry; Pb 0.0017∼0.082 and 0.0043mg/g-dry Co 0.0009∼0.0024 and 0.0016mg/g-dry; Cd 0.0002∼0.0034 and 0.0011mg/g-dry, and Cr is 0.0007∼0.0074 and 0.0021mg/g-dry, both on an average and in a mean respectively. The trace metal contents in the seaweeds investigated are variable according to species, collecting seasons, places and kinds of metal It is interesting that in Sargassum thunbergii some metal contents such as Fe, Mn, and Zn are specially high in September1974 through the year investigated.
The dark respiration, photosynthesis($CO_2$ refixation), $CO_2$ balance and chlorophyll content of 1st-year conelets and 2nd-year cones of Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis S.et.Z.) were investigated after pollination up to the end of maturation. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The growth of 1st-year conelet was 3.6cm in length. 2.4cm in diameter and 3.058 in dry weighs during the first year. The growth of 2nd-year mature cone was 13.5cm in length, 9.3cm in diameter and 141.0g in dry weight in the late of 2nd-year. 2. The refixation of carbon dioxide released from a cone by the dark respiration was less than 50 percent at light saturation through the growing period. The refixation of carbon dioxide released by dark respiration for one year was 7.3 percent in 1st-year conelets and 8.7 percent in 2nd-year cones. 3. The dark respiration rate of cones by increasing temperature was rapidly increased with increasing temperature up to $25^{\circ}C$. The dark respiration rate of cones was much higher in non-growing season than that in growing season at the same temperature. 4. The rates of dark respiration and $CO_2$ refixation, based on the dry weight, were much higher in 1st-year conelet than that in 2nd-year cone. 5. The $CO_2$ balance for a cone was negative from pollination to the end of maturation. The net dark respiration loss for a cone was 7.23g $CO_2$/year in 1st-year conelet and 164.8g $CO_2$/year in 2nd-year cone. 6. The respiratory loss efficiency for a cone(=$CH_2O$ weight calculated by net dark respiration/dry weight of cone) for one year was 1.61 in 1st-year conelet and 0.81 in 2nd-year cone for one year. 7. The total chlorophyll content of surface scale of the cone was lower than 2mg/g dw through the growing period, and chl. a/b ratio was 2 to 3.

This study was carried out to have the basic and applied information to develop the cultivation methods and models and to increase the productivity of high-quality ginseng. Plant height was dramatically increased from one year old to four years old, and then it was grown up very slowly. Stem length was shown similar tendency as the plant height did. Its range were from 9.4 cm in one year old to about 42.4 cm in four year-old ginseng. The leaf area was clearly increased until four years old, $10.1cm^2$ in one year old to $204.9cm^2$ in four years old, while it was slightly increased after four years old. Root length was continuously increased from one year old until four years old, and then it was grown up very slowly. Tap root length which was measured was appeared about 8 cm from three years old to six years old, showing not much different among the year-olds. The root diameter was continuously increased from one year old to six year-old ginseng, about 2.9 mm and about 19 mm, respectively. The moisture content was higher on the shoot than that on the root. It was slightly decreased as they were getting old. In shoot part, the rate of leaves and stems based on dry weight was about 1 : 1. In the root, the dry weight of tap root was heavier than that of lateral root. The dry weight of shoot was decreased after four years old, while it of the root was continuously increased until six years old, resulting the production of ginseng root. Based on the results of this study, growth characteristics of shoot and root of ginseng were dramatically increased from one year old to four years old and then their growths were appeared different between shoot and root, showing not much growing in shoot and keep growing in root.
Woody crops cultivated in short-rotation coppices are attractive sources of lignocellulosic materials for bioethanol production, since they are some of the most abundant renewable resources. In this study, we evaluated the effects of the growth period on bioethanol production using short-rotation woody crops (Populus nigra ${\times}$ Populus maxiwiczii, Populus euramericana, Populus alba ${\times}$ Populus glandulosa, and Salix alba). The carbohydrate contents of 3-year-old and 12-year-old short-rotation woody crop branches were 62.1-68.5% and 64.0-67.1%, respectively. The chemical compositions of 3-year-old and 12-year-old short-rotation woody crop branches did not vary significantly depending upon the growth period. However, the 3-year-old short-rotation woody crop branches (glucose conversion: 26-40%) were hydrolyzed more easily than their 12-year-old counterparts (glucose conversion: 19-24%). Furthermore, following the fermentation of enzymatic hydrolysates from the crop branch samples (by Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCTC 7296) to ethanol, the ethanol concentration of short rotation coppice woody crops was found to be higher in the 3-year-old branch samples (~ 0.18 g/g dry matter) than in the 12-year-old branch samples (~ 0.14 g/g dry matter). These results suggest that immature wood (3-year-old branches) from short-rotation woody crops could be a promising feedstock for bioethanol production.

The objectives of this study are to obtain the basic knowledge of anatomical characteristics and wood properties of thinning trees of young teak (Tectona grandis L.F.) for fulfill the timber demand in Indonesia. Nine thinning trees of 5-year-old teak clone trees were used for analyzing the cell morphology and air-dry density. Vessel diameters in pore and outer pore zones were 165 and $90{\mu}m$, respectively. Mean value of fiber diameter, cell wall thickness, and fiber length in outer pore zone were $14.6{\mu}m$, $2.07{\mu}m$, and 1.04 mm, respectively. In addition, mean value of air-dry density was $0.55g/cm^3$. The measurement and values of vessel diameter, fiber diameter, cell wall thickness, fiber length and air-dry density in the experimental had lower than those in the older teak. Therefore, it could be suggested that the wood from thinning young teaks was not appropriate as construction material, but it could be used for furniture which do not need high of strength properties. Furthermore, since the measurements values of anatomical characteristics were still increasing from pith to bark, it could be suggested that 5-year-old teak clones are still in a juvenile phase. Positively significant correlations were found between air-dry density and cell wall thickness, indicating that cell wall thickness is strongly correlated with wood density of teak.
