Purpose: This study was designed to help preparing the evidence-based data for the manual of heat applications by finding the differences of superficial and core temperatures after applying dry and moist heats on shoulder and thigh. Methods: Moist and dry heats were alternately applied on the 33 subjects a day apart from May 15, 2010 through June 9, 2010. The experiment was conducted with $23^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$ room temperature and 50% to 66% of moisture from 2 to 6 p.m. After heat was applied on the shoulder of the subjects wearing shorts and gowns for 30 minutes, their superficial and core temperatures were measured. The same method was used on the thigh after two hours. Results: Both superficial and core temperatures on the shoulder and thigh increased significantly after heat therapy. There was no significant difference between the temperatures before and after intervention according to applying methods and regions. Conclusion: This study provides a theoretical basis that a dry heat is a convenient nursing intervention for hypothermic patients.

Four different data reduction methods for the heat transfer coefficients from experimental data under dehumidifying conditions are compared. The four methods consist of two heat and mass transfer models and two fin efficiency models. Data are obtained from two heat exchanger samples having plain fins or wave fins. Comparison of the reduced heat transfer coefficients revealed that the single potential heat and mass transfer model yielded the humidity-independent heat transfer coefficients. Two fin efficiency models-enthalpy model and humidity model-yielded approximately the same fin efficiencies, and accordingly approximately the same heat transfer coefficients. The heat transfer coefficients under wet conditions were approximately the same as those of the dry conditions for the plain fin configuration. For the wave fin configuration, however, wet surface heat transfer coefficients were approximately 12% higher. The pressure drops of the wet surface were 10% to 45% larger than those of the dry surface.

This study was conducted in order to find an ideal working fluid kind and a proper filling amount in the heat pipe as well as an inclined angle of heat pipe when they are placed to recover exhaust gas heat in the hot air heater. Followings are the findings of this research. 1. Of the four different working fluids-gasoline kerosene distilled water and acetone-acetone filled heat pipe showed the best performance giving out more homogeneous temperature profile on the radiating part than the kerosene and gasoline heat pipe an carrying out heat transmitting function better than the distilled water heat pipe by 10~2$0^{\circ}C$ higher on the radiating part. Acetone would be a good choice for recycling of exhaust gas heat in the hot air heater. 2. Of the filling amount of working fluid inside the heat pipes dry-out situations possible caused by insufficient filling were found in the filling amount of 5, 7.5 and 10% heat pipes as heat supply rate increases gradually in the range of 50 to 15kJ/sec. but no dry-out and stabilized heat transmitting performance occurred in the heat pipes of 12.5 and 15% filling at the same heat supply rate. It recommends that filling amount shall exceed 12.5% at least with the working fluids of this experiment. 3. The test revealed that the heat transmitting performance of heat pipe was more affected by filling amount rather than inclined angle.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate comfort functions while wearing firefighters' protective gloves in dry and wet conditions at $70^{\circ}C$ air temperature with radiant heat. Four types of firefighting gloves from Korea, Germany, United States, and Japan were evaluated in both dry and wet conditions by eight male firefighters. Firefighters put their hands and forearms wearing gloves into a hands-radiant chamber that maintained at an air temperature of $70{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ ($T_a$) and globe temperature $106^{\circ}C$ ($T_g$). During the exposure, subjects followed a fixed protocol of manual movements and stopped the exposure when they felt being intolerable. Results showed that completion time was extended by 6 min on average when gloves got wet and 15 min for the Japanese gloves was extended when compared to its dry condition (p<.001); microclimate humidity on the palm at the last stage was greater for wet conditions than dry conditions in the all gloves; and skin temperatures on mid-fingertip, palm, and hand were significantly lower for wet conditions than dry conditions especially for Japanese gloves (p<.001). These results indicate that the exposure time without thermal pain to radiant heat could be extended by wetting gloves during the low radiant heat exposure.
Heat transfer and pressure distribution for heat exchanger type of domestic gas boiler are different from shape, pitch, thickness of fin and array of pipe respectively. In order to measure the pressure distribution across the heat exchanger, a suction type wind tunnel was constructed and velocity distribution was measured for pilot tube(4 point) of rack type. The experiments were performed for 5 different air flow mass, rpm=3,6,9,12,15 and transverse axis of heat exchanger(x-length) is 5cm respectively. Results showed that above 9.5m/s, pressure distribution dispersion for wet type of heat exchanger is on the increase and above 5.5m/s, pressure distribution dispersion for dry type of heat exchanger is on the increase. Also, pressure distribution dispersion by comparing two different types heat exchanger, dry type of heat exchanger showed a higher augmentation than wet type of heat exchanger.

The temperature and humidity distribution in a dry room are studied numerically by using standard$\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulence model. In order to evaluate effective heat and moisture ventilation characteristics inside the room, the heat removal capacity and moisture exhaust efficiency are introduced. An effective ventilation control is analyzed by evaluating quantitatively temperature and humidity distributions. It was found that the mean absolute humidity inside the room was almost constant with approximately 0.1905g/kg air regardless of the models and the heat generation rates. This was believed that the moisture generation by workers was relatively small. 40% improvement of the critical decay time was achieved, through the modifications of design variables.

The protection of dry matter and nitrogen from rumen degradation of dhaincha seed (Sesbania aculeate) meal was studied using nylon bag technique. The dhaincha seed meal was subjected to various heat treatments that included oven drying, autoclaving and boiling. Similar experiment was conducted with fish meal as reference for comparison. The oven-dried dhaincha meal was found to retain more dry matter and nitrogen than was found boiled or autoclaved meal. While autoclaving appeared to improve nitrogen and dry matter retention to some extent, boiling seemed to cause more loss of dry matter from nylon bag. Heat treatment caused high retention of nitrogen by fish meal. The calculated effective protein degradation was 80.4% and 83.2% for the oven dried fish meal and dhaincha seed meal whereas same values were 74.2% and 86.7% for autoclaved fish and dhaincha seed meal respectively at the outflow rate of 4.4% per hour. The in vitro study revealed higher digestibility for heat treated samples by pepsin. The dry matter, nitrogen and ash content of dhaincha seed meal were 85.93%, 5.93% and 7.31% respectively.
The present study conducted comparative evaluation of wet dry floor heating systems using geothermal heat pump. Circulation hot water from geothermal heat pump which is $10{\sim}15^{\circ}C$ lower than that from boiler was used. In order to access indoor temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) it took 74 minutes for dry type and 247 minutes for wet type. Average floor temperature was $23.89^{\circ}C$ for wet type and $32.66^{\circ}C$ for dry type. Energy saving rate gradually increased by 66% after 138 minutes. In the results, for floor heating system using low temperature circulation water, wet type was not enough to meet stable and comfortable radiant floor heating due to low floor temperature and access time to indoor set temperature. While dry type was practicable for stable floor heating due to fast rise of indoor set temperature and comfortable floor temperature.

The small modular reactors (SMRs) of the integrated pressurized water reactor (IPWR) type have been widely developed owing to their enhanced safety features. The SMR-IPWR adopts passive residual heat removal system (PRHRS) to extract residual heat from the core. Because the PRHRS removes the residual heat using the latent heat of the water stored in the emergency cooldown tank, the PRHRS gradually loses its cooling capacity after the stored water is depleted. A quick restoration of the power supply is expected infeasible under station blackout accident condition, so an advanced PRHRS is needed to ensure an extended grace period. In this study, an advanced design is proposed to indirectly incorporate a dry air cooling tower to the PRHRS through an intermediate loop called indefinite PRHRS. The feasibility of the indefinite PRHRS was assessed through a long-term transient simulation using the MARS-KS code. The indefinite PRHRS is expected to remove the residual heat without depleting the stored water. The effect of the environmental temperature on the indefinite PRHRS was confirmed by parametric analysis using comparative simulations with different environmental temperatures.
In this study, the wet surface heat transfer coefficients and friction factors of PF heat exchangers are presented. Two sample with different fin pitch(1.25mm, 1.5mm) were tested. Tests were conducted in a open loop wind tunnel. The wet surface heat transfer coefficient was reduced following the procedure given in ARI 410-81. Results showed that the heat transfer coefficients of the heat exchanger with 1.5mm fin pitch were approximately the same as those with 1.25mm fin pitch, except at low reynolds number(Re<100), where the heat transfer coefficients of 1.5mm fin pitch were slighly higher than those with 1.25mm fin pitch. The friction factors of the 1.25mm fin pitch, however was 120 % to 160 % higher than those of the 1.5mm fin pitch. The wet surface heat transfer coefficients were lower than those of the dry surface. The wet surface friction factors, however, were higher than those of the dry surface.
