Eye Blink Detection and Alarm System to Reduce Symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome

  • In recent years, and with the increased adoption of digital transformation and spending long hours in front of these devices, clinicians have observed that the prolonged use of visual display units (VDUs) can result in a certain symptom complex, which has been defined as computer vision syndrome (CVS). This syndrome has been affected by many causes, such as light refractive errors, poor computer design, workplace ergonomics, and a highly demanding visual task. This research focuses on eliminating one of CVSs, which is the eye dry syndrome caused by infrequent eye blink rate while using a smart device for a long time. This research attempt to find a limitation on the current tools. In addition, exploring the other use cases to utilize the solution based on each vertical and needs.

자가 경혈지압이 대학생의 눈 건강에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Self-acupressure on the Visual Health of College Students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of self-acupressure on the visual health of college students. Methods : A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were determined by OSDI(ocular surface disease index) and the Schirmer test, they were assigned to an experimental group of 22 and control group of 22. The experimental group participated in self-acupressure, which were practiced 2 times a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Results : Scores of ocular surface disease index, Schirmer test and ocular fatigue were significantly better in the experimental group after the intervention compared to the control group. Conclusions : The result indicate that self-acupressure is an effective nursing intervention for improving the dry eye syndrome and decreasing ocular fatigue in college students.

지역사회 거주노인의 안구건조증 유병률과 관련요인 (Dry Eyes and its Associated Factors in the elderly living in the community)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 지역사회 거주 노인의 안구건조증, 수면장애, 우울의 유병률과 안구건조증 관련 요인을 파악하여 노인의 안구건조, 수면장애, 우울의 관련성을 규명하기 위함이다. 연구대상은 만 65세 이상 재가 노인으로, 일반적 특성과 우울, 수면의 질, 안구건조증 측정도구가 포함된 질문지를 이용하여 설문조사를 하였다. 149명의 자료를 분석한 결과 노인의 안구건조증 발생은 연령(χ2=4.50, p=.034), 직업유무(χ2=7.14, p=.008), 만성질환(χ2=6.59, p=.010), 약물(χ2=4.86, p=.027), 눈수술 여부(χ2=6.02, p=.014), 수면장애(χ2=7.29, p=.007)에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 다중로지스틱회귀분석에서는 수면장애가 안구건조에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 규명되었다(OR=2.45, 95% CI=1.17-5.13). 따라서, 노인의 안구건조증 관리 및 예방을 위해 수면장애를 유발하는 원인을 찾고 수면의 질을 증진 시킬 수 있는 간호중재 및 전략을 수립하는 것이 필요하다.

한방 안과에 내원하여 안저 검사를 시행한 환자 463명에 대한 후향적 연구 보고 (The Retrospective Study of 463 Patients who had Funduscopy Examination at Korean Medicine Ophthalmology)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze and report status of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology patients who did funduscopy examination. Through this, we hope that the development of our diagnosis and treatment. Methods : From June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2019, Based on the electronic medical records of patients who had funduscopy examination at Korean Medicine Ophthalmology, Busan University Korean Medicine Hospital, the gender, age, visiting motives and paths, diagnosis, examination number of years, other eye examinations and treatments method were summarized and analyzed. Results : 463 patients were able to check the electronic medical records. They were 283 females and 180 males. The mean age of the patients was 51.5 years and elderly patients who 50s and 60s were 49.3% of whole patients. The most common motives for Korean Medicine Ophthalmology visitation was 'combination treatment with other department in Korean Medicine Hospital'. Outer eye diseases were 283 cases, inner eye diseases were 198 cases. Dry eye syndrome, asthenopia, visual discomfort, conjunctivitis, and eye discomfort were most common in the outer eye diseases. Cataracts, Vitreous floater, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Ocular Pain were most common in the inner eye disease. The most common parts of outer eye diseases were Conjunctival, lacrimal gland, paralytic, corneal, eyelid and front uveal, scleral disease and then in inner eye diseases parts, Retinal, lens, vitreous, glaucoma, optic nerve, behind uveal, choroid disease were most common. The number of funduscopy examination was ups and downs. Herbal medicine was the most common used. Conclusions : The funduscopy examination is essential for diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. We hope that the use of fundus examination and other ophthalmologic examination will be expanded soon in Korean Medicine Ophthalmology.

Estimating Leaf Area Index of Paddy Rice from RapidEye Imagery to Assess Evapotranspiration in Korean Paddy Fields

  • Leaf area index (LAI) is important in explaining the ability of crops to intercept solar energy for biomass production, amount of plant transpiration, and in understanding the impact of crop management practices on crop growth. This paper describes a procedure for estimating LAI as a function of image-derived vegetation indices from temporal series of RapidEye imagery obtained from 2010 to 2012 using empirical models in a rice plain in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do. Rice plants were sampled every two weeks to investigate LAI, fresh and dry biomass from late May to early October. RapidEye images were taken from June to September every year and corrected geometrically and atmospherically to calculate normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Linear, exponential, and expolinear models were developed to relate temporal satellite NDVIs to measured LAI. The expolinear model provided more accurate results to predict LAI than linear or exponential models based on root mean square error. The LAI distribution was in strong agreement with the field measurements in terms of geographical variation and relative numerical values when RapidEye imagery was applied to expolinear model. The spatial trend of LAI corresponded with the variation in the vegetation growth condition.

습도 변화가 눈에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Humidity Changes on Eyes)

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of changes in tear break-up time, accommodative response amount, and accommodative microwave on the eyes due to changes in humidity. Methods. A total of 48 adult men and women in their 20s (21.1±1.56 years old) were surveyed on dry eye questionnaires (OSID questionnaires), tear destruction time was measured by humidity (40%, 60%, 80%), and controlled reactions and controlled fine waves were measured through tactile tests. Result. As a result of the OSID questionnaire, there were 10 normal patients, 8 mild dry eyes, 1 moderate dry eye, and 5 severe dry eyes. The initial tear film destruction time was 7.34±4.67 seconds at 40% humidity, 8.99±4.75 seconds at 60% humidity, 10.26±4.52 seconds at 80% humidity, and the average tear film destruction time was 9.51±4.07 seconds at 40% humidity, 10.99±3.82 seconds at 60% humidity, and 12.05±3.42 seconds at 80% humidity. The accommodative response was -0.41~1.79D at 40% humidity, -0.34~1.79D at 60% humidity, and -0.30~2.01D at 80% humidity. The accommodative microwave was measured as 56.39~63.43dB when it was 40%, 56.41~62.64dB when it was 60%, and 55.96 ~61.13dB when it was 80%. Conclusion. As the humidity (40~80%) increased, the tear break-up time increased, and as the accommodative stimulus amount increased, the accommodative response amount increased. It was found that the accommodative microwave according to the amount of accommodative stimulation increased, and as the humidity increased, the accommodative microwave decreased.

정상안과 건성안에서 피팅상태에 따른 각막에서의 소프트렌즈 움직임 비교 (The Comparison of Lens Movement by the Fitting States of Soft Contact Lenses in Normal and Dry Eyes)

  • 목적: 소프트렌즈를 얼라인먼트(alignment) 피팅 또는 스팁(steep) 피팅하였을 때 각막에서의 렌즈의 회전 움직임, 순목에 의한 이동거리 및 중심위치가 정상안과 건성안에서 어떠한 차이를 보이는지 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 20~30대 남녀 40안을 정상안군과 건성안군으로 분류한 후 polymacon 재질의 소프트렌즈를 얼라인먼트 피팅 혹은 스팁피팅상태로 착용시키고 렌즈 착용 직후 및 눈물층이 안정화 되었을 때의 회전 움직임, 순목에 의한 이동거리, 중심위치를 비교하였다. 결과: 렌즈의 회전 움직임은 스팁하게 피팅하였을 경우 정상안 군은 얼라인먼트 피팅시와 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 건성안 군에서는 눈물층이 안정화되는 시점에서의 평균 회전 움직임이 정상안 군보다 통계적으로 유의하게 컸다. 정상안 군에서는 피팅에 따른 렌즈 이동거리의 차이가 없었으나 건성안 군에서는 스팁하게 피팅된 경우 렌즈의 이동 거리가 증가하였다. 각막에서의 렌즈 중심 위치는 얼라인먼트 피팅된 렌즈를 착용한 정상안 군의 경우 수직 방향으로의 분포가 더 컸으나 건성안의 경우는 수평 방향으로의 분포가 더 컸다. 또한 건성안에 렌즈를 스팁하게 피팅하였을 때에는 렌즈를 착용한 직후 렌즈의 중심 위치가 수직방향으로도 다소 넓게 분포하였으며 눈물층이 안정화된 후에는 오히려 수평 방향의 분포가 좁아져 눈물층의 안정화에 따라 렌즈의 중심 위치가 변함을 알 수 있었다. 결론: 본 연구를 통하여 건성안에서의 소프트렌즈의 움직임과 중심 위치가 정상안의 경우와 상이하며 특히 스팁 피팅시에는 그 차이가 더 두드러짐을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 건성안에 소프트렌즈를 피팅할 시에는 본 연구를 통하여 확인할 수 있었던 정상안과의 차이를 고려해야 할 것으로 생각된다.

Pubmed 검색을 통한 안 질환 관련 침 임상시험 현황 연구 (Clinical trials on ophthalmology with Acupuncture Reviewed in PubMed Database)

  • Objective : Acupuncture has been used for treating eye disease for thousands of years but there are few evidence based medicine (EBM) for its use. This study is a review of Clinical trials related to the treatment of eye disease by acupuncture therapy. Methods : We referred a Pubmed site by using searching word of "eye, acupuncture" (Limits: 10 Year, Clinical Trials, Humans, English). Results : Eight journals with twelve papers were searched. Eight of these studies were randomized and ten trials of acupuncture treatments reported significant effect. On the topic of these clinical trials, five of them were about dry eyes, four about disorder of refraction, two about intraocular pressure and one about visual function. The result of clinical studies represented the significant cure rate. Conclusion : We found that RCTs about the acupucnture for eye diseases were more and more published. But their average impact factor was 2.16 and average modified Jadad score was 3.89, so there needs more qualifying studies.

대학생의 안구건조가 삶의 질에 미치는 요인 (Factors influencing the quality of life by dry eyes of university students)

  • 본 연구는 대학생들이 주관적으로 인지하는 안구건강에 대해 조사하고, 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 대상자들이 안구건조증을 진단받은 경우는 18.4%이며, 주관적 안구건조감 경험은 63.2%이다. NEI-VFQ 평균은 82.3점이었으며, 시각과 관련된 사회적 기능이 평균 94.6점으로 가장 높게 나타났다. 시각관련 삶의 질에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 안경 착용이었으며, 이에 대한 설명력은 13.6%로 나타났다. 앞으로 안경이나 콘택트렌즈 착용기간 및 안구건조 중증도 등을 고려한 추가 연구가 필요하다.
