  • The facilities producing the nuclear energy chosen for resolving the recent global energy problem have been increasingly constructed, and hence more frequent durability tests on radiation shielding concrete are required due to NPP(Nuclear Power Plant) life extension and increase of radioactive waste repositories. Bulk dry density is one of the critical factors ensuring the durability and performance of the radiation shielding concrete because the design of the radiation shielding reinforced concrete structures for NPPs is based on the bulk dry density of the concrete. Bulk density of unconsolidated shielding concrete can be calculated utilizing a test assuring to satisfy the bulk dry density, or existing credible data set. This study evaluated correlation between bulk density and bulk dry density of the concrete used for Korean NPPs (y=1.0913X-0.2458) and developed a correlation expression considering standard deviation of bulk dry density (y=1.0913X-0.3358).

Evaluation of Methods for Determination of Bulk Density of Eight Kinds of Forage under Air-dry and Wet Conditions

  • The conditions of measurement for the determination of bulk density were evaluated to assess the bulkiness of 8 kinds of forage. The bulkiness of the forages was determined with 4 different sizes of forage samples with 7 different pressure application under air-dry and wet conditions. The dry bulk density (DBD) curvilinearly regressed with the pressure applied. The particle size of the samples and kinds of forage used in the present study did not affect changes in values of DBD determined under pressures over $20g/cm^2$ up to $200g/cm^2$. The values of the wet bulk density (WBD) increased as an increment of particle size, but were not always regressed on the particle size of the 8 kinds of forage. The DBD determined on 8 mm particles showed a higher correlation coefficient with neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents. The DBD may be a useful tool for the assessment of NDF in forage, when it is determined under condition of a pressure of $100g/cm^2$ or over with a particle size of 8 mm. The WBD may not be utilized for the direct measurement of the physical characteristics of forage, but may be required a thorough consideration on water solubility of forages. Further studies are needed to clarify the DBD contribution to the prediction of forage intake by ruminants.

글로벌 금융위기 전후 한국 건화물 선사의 재무비율 변동에 대한 비교 분석 (A Study on Financial Ratios Change of Korean Dry Bulk Shipping Firms before and after the 2008 Global Financial Crisis)

  • 2008년 9월 미국의 서브프라임 모기지 부실에 의한 리먼브러더스 사태로 시작된 글로벌 금융위기가 세계 건화물해운시장에도 영향을 끼쳐 건화물 물동량 감소와 선박의 공급과잉으로 세계 건화물해운산업과 조선산업에 심각한 불황을 유발하였다. 이러한 상황에서, 국제경제의 동향에 민감한 한국경제의 구조 여건상 한국의 건화물선해운기업(또는 건화물선사)도 2008년 이후 현재까지 어렵게 경영을 헤쳐가고 있다. 이와 같은 심각한 불황과 그 여파로 건화물선사의 수익이 급감 할 수밖에 없게 되었으며 열악한 재무구조로 인해 경영이 부실해지고 급기야 도산과 파산하는 해운기업이 속출하게 되었다. 이러한 점을 고려하여 동 연구는 2008년 글로벌 금융위기를 기점으로 2005년부터 2007년까지와 그 후 2010년부터 2012년까지로 기간을 선정한 다음 한국의 외항 건화물 해운기업을 건전기업과 부실기업으로 구분하여 두 기업집단 간의 주요 재무비율에 어떠한 변화와 차이가 있었는지 t 검정을 통해 분석하였다. 실증분석에서 두 집단 간에 차이를 보인 주요 재무비율로는 수익성비율과 성장성비율이다. 본 연구의 의의는 첫째, 해운기업 경영에도 역시 재무건전성에 대한 체계적인 관리가 중요하며 이를 위해 수익성이 높은 화물을 계약하는 영업전략이 중요하다. 둘째, 선박의 효율적인 운항 및 관리로 성장성이 지속되는 기업으로 경영해야 한다는 것이다.

탈유당 탈지분유의 입자구조 특성에 관한 연구 (Characteristics of Particles Structure of Delactosed Nonfat Dry Milk)

  • In comparison with calcium caseinate, delactosed nonfat dry milk has a greater particle size but also a higher bulk density, reflecting the differences in their composition and physical structure. Particles of delactosed nonfat dry milk were bigger than those of nonfat dry milk as a result of swelling and aggregation. The particle size was shown not to be correlated with the bulk density. The differences in particle characteristics between delactosed nonfat dry milk and nonfat dry milk were caused by the removal of lactose producing highly porous particles. The particles of delactosed nonfat dry milk were observed to be much more irregular, rough, hollow, fragile, and swelling as a result of solvent treatment.

유가와 벌크선 운임의 상관관계 분석에 관한 연구 (The Inter-correlation Analysis between Oil Prices and Dry Bulk Freight Rates)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 유가와 벌크선 운임의 상관관계 및 영향력을 검증하는 것이다. 탄소배출 감축을 위해 석유의존도를 줄이고 친환경연료 선박의 개발이 추진되고 있지만, 현재의 진행상황으로 볼 때, 상당한 시간이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 반면, COVID 19 팬데믹 및 러시아의 우크라이나 침공에 따른 유가 변동성이 커지고 있다. 해운업에서 연료비용이 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으므로, 유가가 운임에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 점검이 필요하다. 유가 변수로 Brent, Dubai, WTI 그리고 운임변수는 BDI, BCI, BPI로 2008년 10월부터 2022년 2월까지 월별 데이터를 사용하였다. VAR(Vector Autoregressive) 모형을 이용한 상관관계 분석에서 BDI에 대한 충격반응 분석은 WTI가 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤고, 그 다음으로 두바이유, 브렌트유 순으로 차이를 보였다. 예측오차 분산분해 분석결과는 BDI에 대해 WTI, 두바이유, 브렌트유 순으로 설명력의 차이를 보였다. 선종별로 차이는 있으나, 대체로 WTI와 두바이유가 설명력이 높았다.

  • Erdosteine, an expectorant, has been known to show a very poor flowability. Furthermore, high dosing amount (300mg/cap) and bulk density make it more difficult to fill in a capsule less than No. 0 size as bulk state. We have studied the possibility of dry granulation process in purpose of getting a better flowability and manufacturing efficiency. A roller compactor was introduced for this purpose and the applicability of laboratory result into commercial scale instrument was also experimented.Roller compacting process was very favorable to obtain the granules with good flowability and improved density profiles. Long Short-Term Memory를 활용한 건화물운임지수 예측 (Prediction of Baltic Dry Index by Applications of Long Short-Term Memory)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to overcome limitations of conventional studies that to predict Baltic Dry Index (BDI). The study proposed applications of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) named Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to predict BDI. Methods: The BDI time-series prediction was carried out through eight variables related to the dry bulk market. The prediction was conducted in two steps. First, identifying the goodness of fitness for the BDI time-series of specific ANN models and determining the network structures to be used in the next step. While using ANN's generalization capability, the structures determined in the previous steps were used in the empirical prediction step, and the sliding-window method was applied to make a daily (one-day ahead) prediction. Results: At the empirical prediction step, it was possible to predict variable y(BDI time series) at point of time t by 8 variables (related to the dry bulk market) of x at point of time (t-1). LSTM, known to be good at learning over a long period of time, showed the best performance with higher predictive accuracy compared to Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). Conclusion: Applying this study to real business would require long-term predictions by applying more detailed forecasting techniques. I hope that the research can provide a point of reference in the dry bulk market, and furthermore in the decision-making and investment in the future of the shipping business as a whole.

수중환경에서 Fe계 벌크 비정질 합금의 트라이볼로지적 거동 (Tribological Behavior of Fe-based Bulk Amorphous Alloy in a Distilled Water Environment)

  • The tribological behavior of an Fe-based bulk amorphous alloy while sliding against a AISI 304 disc is investigated using a unidirectional pin-on-disc type tribometer in dry and distilled water environments. The rod-shaped bulk pins are fabricated by suction casting. The crystallinities of the bulk amorphous alloys before and after the friction tests are determined by X-ray diffraction. The friction coefficient and specific wear rate of the amorphous pin in the water environment are found to be twice and thrice as much as in the dry environment at a low applied pressure, respectively. However, at a higher pressure, the friction coefficient and specific wear rate are 0.4 and 1.02 mg/(Nm/s), respectively, in the water environment. A microstructure analysis shows that the worn surface of the alloy is characterized by delamination from the smooth friction surface, and thus delamination is the main wear mechanism during the friction test in dry sliding environment. In contrast, brittle fracture morphologies are apparent on the friction surface formed in distilled water environment. For the sample tested at a lower sliding speed, the XPS data from the oxide layer are similar to those of the pure element with weak suboxide peaks. For higher sliding speeds, all the main sharp peaks representing the core level binding energies are shifted to the oxide region.

벙커가격과 건화물선 지수(Baltic Dry-bulk Index) 간의 비대칭 장기균형 분석 (Analysis of Asymmetric Long-run Equilibrium between Bunker Price and BDI(Baltic Dry-bulk Index))

  • 본 연구는 해운산업의 경기를 나타내는 BDI와 벙커가격의 관계를 비대칭 공적분 모형을 사용하여 분석하였다. 기존연구는 선형의 공적분 모형을 사용하여 BDI와 국제유가의 관계를 분석하였으나, 본 연구는 기존연구들에서 드러난 BDI와 유가의 상승기와 하락기의 비대칭적인 특징을 적절히 포착할 수 있는 비대칭 모형을 사용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 기존연구에서 제시된 선형모형에 근거한 분석은 두 변수간의 장기균형 관계가 존재하지 않는 것으로 나타난 반면 본 연구에서 제시한 비대칭 모형을 통해 장기균형 관계가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, BDI가 벙커가격에 영향을 미치고 있음이 확인되었으므로 두 변수간의 장기균형 관계는 비대칭 모형을 고려하는 것이 적절한 것으로 판단된다.

  • In this paper, two different methods are developed to be used for the design of noncontact dry gas seal which is used to prevent gas leakage of high speed rotating shaft-housing machineries. First method is using FEA to compute the deformation of seal face and the other is using Influence Coefficient Method in order to save computation of FEA. In both cases, heat load and mechanical loads are applied such as heat generation, bulk temperature and nodal force, bulk pressure, centrifugal force, respectively. ICM method is verified correct and effective and both methods give reliable and useful deformation results for the design of mechanical seals.
