Effects of Aerosolized Sanitizers of Different Droplet Sizes on Foodborne Pathogen Reduction

  • The diffusivity of aerosol sanitizers may be determined by the weight and droplet size of the aerosol. To test the effects of droplet size, 2 types of aerosol sanitizers were prepared using different ultrasonic nebulizer frequencies (1.6 and 2.4 MHz) and their reduction activities were determined against Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella typhimurium. A sodium hypochlorite aerosol was treated for 10, 30, or 60 min in a model aerosol cabinet. When the aerosol prepared by nebulizing at 1.6 MHz was treated for 30 min, a 0.2 log reduction was observed in E. coli O157:H7 and 0.3 log reductions were exhibited in L. monocytogenes and S. typhimurium, respectively. After 60 min, the 3 pathogens were reduced by 1.7, 0.6, and 0.8 log units, respectively. However, when the aerosol prepared by nubulizing at 2.4 MHz was treated, the microbes presented 1.6, 0.5, and 0.6 log reductions at 30 min, and 1.8, 0.9, and 1.1 log reductions at 60 min of treatment, respectively.

액침법에 의한 바이오디젤유의 액적분포에 관한 연구 (A Study on Droplet Distribution of Bio Diesel Fuels Using Immersion Sampling Method)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the droplet distribution and Sauter mean diameter(SMD) of biodiesel fuel, using the immersion sampling method. This method involves using an optical microscope and a CCD camera, to take an image of the droplets. These images are then measured by using a 'Sigma Scan' processing program. The results of the above experiment are summarized as followed ; (1) There can be as much as a 10% error rate when measuring the diameter of these droplets, using the image processing method and the naked eye. (2) The result of droplet size distribution test, TVO(transesterified vegetable oil) big size droplet distribution were increased at ambient pressure $6kg/cm^2$. (3) When ambient pressure increased $6kg/cm^2$ above, SMD variation of TVO and UVO(used vegetable oil) 30 are small. (4) On Rosin-Rammler analysis, droplets size distribution of UVO(used vegetable oil) 30 uniform more than TVO 20 on ambient pressure $1kg/cm^2$.

  • The microfluidic controlled droplet manufacturing system is one of the most powerful methods for capsule manufacturing. The microfluidic control method can control the type and size of the capsule by changing the size and configuration of the channel. In addition, by increasing the number of channels, capsules of uniform size can be mass-produced. In this paper, a capsule manufacturing system including flow-focusing and T junction method was designed. In addition, the effectiveness of this system was verified by manufacturing multi-emulsion capsules with a size of 2.2 to 3 mm.

4-bit 디지털 미소분사기의 설계변수와 토출성능간의 영향분석에 관한 실험적 연구 (Design Parameters and Experimental Performance Evaluation of 4-bit Digital Multi-heater Microinjector)

  • We present the design, fabrication and experimental results of 4-bit digital microinjectors, whose ejected droplet volumes are adjusted by the digital operation of a 4-bit microheater array. We design the reference microinjectors as well as its comparative test structures. In the fabrication process, we use a five-mask micromachining process and the total chip size of the fabricated microinjector is $7,640{\mu}m{\times}5,260{\mu}m.$ We measure the ejected droplet volumes and velocities, which are adjusted from $12.1{\pm}1.0~55.6{\pm}14.7pl\;and\;2.3{\pm}0.1~15.7{\pm}0.8m/s.$ respectively, depending on the 15 possible combinations of 4-bit microheater array. We also experimentally characterize the effect of geometric variation including the microheater size, inter-microheater gap, microchannel width and sequential operation of microheater array on the ejected droplet volume and velocity. Among these parameters, we find that the microheater size is the most dominant parameter affected to the ejected droplet volumes and velocities. Thus, the present microinjector has a potential for application to the high-resolution inkjet printers with multiple gray levels or high-precision fluid injectors with variable volume control.

노즐 특성 변화에 따른 미분무수와 화염과의 상호작용에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis on Interaction between Fire Flame and Water Mist according to the Variation of Nozzle Performance)

  • In the present study, the numerical investigation on the effects of water-mist characteristics has been carried out for the fire suppression mechanism. The FDS are used to simulate the interaction of fire plume and water mists, and program describes the fire-driven flows using LES turbulence model, the mixture fraction combustion model, the finite volume method of radiation transport for a non-scattering gray gas, and conjugate heat transfer between wall and gas flow. The numerical model is consisted of a rectangular enclosure of $L{\times}W{\times}H=1.5{\times}1.5{\times}2.0m$ and a water mist nozzle that be installed 1.8m from fire pool. In the study, the parameters of nozzle for simulation are the droplet size and the spray velocity. Finally, the droplet size influences to fire flume on fire suppression than spray velocity because of the effect of terminal velocity, and the optimal condition for fire suppression is that the droplet size and the spray velocity are $100{\mu}m$ and 20m/s, respectively.

실린더내의 연료 액적의 기화 과정에 관한 수치 연구 (Simulation for Fuel Droplet Evaporation in Cylinder)

  • 본 연구는 불꽃 점화 기관의 실린더내의 연료 액적의 기화과정에 대한 수치 해석이다. 본 연구의 특징은 무차원 임계 액적 수명시간을 정의하여 가솔린엔진의 흡입 및 압축행정동안 연료 액적의 가열 및 기화과정을 모델화한 것이다. 수치해석 결과는 압축행정동안 기체 온도 및 압력의 동시적 증가는 액적의 기화율에 서로 보상적인 영향을 미치려는 경향을 보이고 있다. 즉 실린더 내 환경의 변화는 연료 액적의 기화과정에 민감하지 않다는 것을 보이고 있다. 이 프로그램은 압축행정 말기에 완전히 기화할 수 있는 액적의 크기를 예측할 수 있다.

  • The reproducibility of water droplet formation which is indispensible in the investigation of a drop-on-demand piezoelectrically driven inkjet was verified by checking the size of droplet and distance from the nozzle tip of inkjet head to droplet. Based on the reproducibility of droplet formation, we visualized the formation of micro-scale droplets by acquiring consecutive images at the jetting frequency of 500 Hz for which air bubbles were not generated. Two different electric waveforms were used to drive the piezoelectric actuator. The visualization system consists of a high-speed camera that can capture images up to 250,000fps, a long-distance microscope and a halogen lamp as a light source.

  • Q 스위칭 Nd:YAG 레이저 빔을 펌프광으로 하여 $35~62{\mu}m$ 크기의 물방울에서의 공명 유도라만산란 신호를 검출하였다. 신호광은 간격이 일정한 peak들의 형태로 나타났고 방울크기가 커질수록 그 간격이 좁아짐을 관측하였다. 또한 두 물방울을 결합하면서 유도라만산란 신호를 검출한 결과 결합된 물방울이 거의 구의 형태가 될 때 신호광이 공명 특성을 띠게 됨을 확인하였다. 실험으로 측정한 같은 모드순서의 공명모드 사이의 간격오차는 약 5%였다.

  • This paper presents the DOD (Drop-On-Demand) characteristic using the electrostatic field induced inkjet printing system. In order to achieve the DOD characteristic of electrostatic field induced inkjet printing, applied the bias voltage of 1.4 kV and the pulse voltage of $2.0\;kV\;{\sim}\;2.7\;kV$ using high voltage pulse generator. Electrostatic field induced droplet ejection is directly observed using a high-speed camera and for investigated DOD characteristic, CNT ink used. The electrostatic field induced inkjet head system has DOD characteristic using pulse generator which can be applied pulse voltage. The bias voltage has a good condition which form meniscus and has micro dripping mode for small size micro droplet. Also, the droplet size decreases with increasing the applied pulse voltage. This paper shows DOD characteristic at electrostatic field induced inkjet head system, Therefore. electrostatic DOD inkjet head system will be applied industrial area comparing conventional electrostatic inkjet head system.
