PRESSURE MODULAION ON MICRO-MACHINED PORT FUEL INJECTOR PERFORMANCE

  • An experimental study was carried out to characterize the spray atomization process of micro-machined port fuel injectors with a piezoelectric atomization device, which can generate pressure pulsations through vibration of a piezoelectric transducer. In this study, several types of micro-machined arrays such as 30∼200-microns of hole arrays were tested. Both a dual-stream and a central-port injectors with micro-machined arrays were tested and compared with normal port fuel injectors. The spray visualization was conducted to characterize overall spray structure and phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA) system was used to quantify the droplet size and velocity. In addition, the pressure history was recorded by using digitized signal from pressure transducer. The results showed that modulation is effective to the spray atomization for tested injectors and atomization performance depends on injector design factors, orifice sizes, and frequency and power of the modulator. A number of resonance frequencies of the modulator was modified by injector parameters and temperature. In addition, our results suggested that design of sufficient space among holes is critical to avoid droplet coalescence in the multi-hole micro-machined injectors.

PFC프로세스 의한 Fe기 Fe78Si9B13 비정질 합금리본 제조에 있어서 습도변화가 표면결함 및 연자기적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Humidity Variation on the Surface Deffects and Soft Magnetic Properties in the Fabrication of Fe Based Amorphous Alloy Ribbon by the PFC Process)

  • 본 연구는 PFC(Planar Flow Casting)프로세스에 의한 Fe기 $Fe_{78}Si_9B_{13}$ 비정질 합금리본 제조에 있어서 습도변화(55~85 %)가 비정질 합금리본의 표면결함 및 자기적 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 비정질 합금리본의 접촉면과 자유면에서 관찰된 air pocket/droplet의 크기는 습도가 증가할수록 커지는 경향을 보임과 동시에 표면조도과 함께 크게 증가하였으며, 특히 습도 65 %에서 제조한 표면조도 값이 접촉면($Ra=0.60{\mu}m$, $Rz=3.11{\mu}m$)과 자유면($Ra=0.47{\mu}m$, $Rz=3.00{\mu}m$)에서 모두 가장 낮은 값이 얻어졌다. 또한 $23(OD)^*20(ID)^*20(H)$ 크기의 토로이달 코어로 제조된 자성코어의 연자기적 특성의 경우에도 65 %에서 제조한 비정질 합금리본의 시료에서 $B_s(B_{700})=1.055T$, $H_c=0.083Oe$, 투자율 = 1,197 및 core loss = 0.276 W/kg로 가장 우수한 값이 얻어졌다.

  • Ce-doped $Y_2$SiO$_{5}$ phosphor particles of spherical morphology, fine size, high crystallinity and high photoluminescence (PL) intensity were prepared by spray pyrolysis. When nitrate precursor solution is adopted, hollow particles were formed by uneven drying rate between surface and inside of droplet. Citric acid and ethylene glycol were introduced as polymeric precursor to control the morphology of particles. When polymeric solution is adopted, polymeric chain is formed by the esterification reaction between carboxyl and hydroxy groups of citric acid and ethylene glycol, and considered as controlling the drying characteristics of droplet. $Y_2$$SiO_{5}$ :Ce phosphor particles prepared from polymeric precursor solution were spherical, filled, fine size and not agglomerate before and after post heat treatment. The optimum doping concentration of cerium was 0.5 mol% of overall solution concentration. The optimum amount of TBOS of high PL intensity and pure crystallinity of X2-type $Y_2$$SiO _{5}$ was 105% of stoichiometric amount. The PL intensity of $Y_2$X$/_{5}$ :Ce phosphor particles prepared using the polymeric precursor solution was 164% of that of the nitrate precursor solution due to homogeneous composition and good morphology.y.

  • Computations were performed to investigate the spray characteristics of the twin fluid nozzle in three stage heavy-oil combustion burner. The burner geometry and flow conditions were provided by a burner company. The goal of the study is to estimate mean droplet size, initial velocity and spread factor of the nozzle through comparison between experiments and numerical analyses. Air stage ratio is 2:4:4 by mass, and O2 in exhaust gas is about 4 % by volume. Here, the agreement between the experiment and numerical analyses is evaluated by NOx generation. Spray characteristics will be linearly interpolated between fuel consumption rate l20L/h and 240 L/h.

Edge Activator가 수화 액정형 베시클의 입자크기와 피부 침투에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Edge Activator on the Droplet Size and Skin Permeation of Hydrated Liquid Crystalline Vesicles)

  • 베시클 막을 유연하게 만드는 edge activator를 혼합하여 수화 액정형 베시클을 제조하고 niacinamide를 베시클 안에 포집시켰다. 제조 과정 중 액정 상 형성 및 액정의 열적 상전이 현상을 편광현미경과 시차주사 열량계(DSC)를 통해 살펴보았다. Sodium deoxycholate, lysolecithin, polysorbate 80 등의 edge activator를 첨가하면 수화 액정형 베시클 입자가 수십 나노 사이즈로 줄어들었다. 수화 액정형 베시클을 활용하여 niacinamide를 피부 침투시키면 수용액 상태로 도포했을 때보다 피부 침투된 niacinamide의 양이 크게 증가하는데, 10% sodium deoxycholate를 혼합한 베시클에서는 niacinamide 침투량이 4배 가까이 증가하였다. 이러한 결과로부터 edge activator를 베시클에 혼합하면 베시클의 피부 침투력이 향상됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • Three design parameters were considered in this study: outlet nozzle angle (30°, 60°, 80°), neck length (1 mm, 3 mm), and flow rate (0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 lpm). A neck diameter of 0.5 mm induced cavitation flow at a venture nozzle. A secondary transparent chamber was connected after ejection to increase bubble duration and shape visibility. The bubble size was estimated using a Gaussian kernel function to identify bubbles in the acquired images. Data on bubble size were used to obtain Sauter's mean diameter and probability density function to obtain specific bubble state conditions. The degree of bubble generation according to the bubble size was compared for each design variable. The bubble diameter increased as the flow rate increased. The frequency of bubble generation was highest around 20 ㎛. With the same neck length, the smaller the CV number, the larger the average bubble diameter. It is possible to increase the generation frequency of smaller bubbles by the cavitation method by changing the magnification angle and length of the neck. However, if the flow rate is too large, the average bubble diameter tends to increase, so an appropriate flow rate should be selected.

  • In a drop-on-demand thermal ink-jet printer, the dot size of an ink droplet expelled from a printer depends on the absorption of the paper. This causes severe differences between output images on the different paper materials. In this paper, the color matching algorithm for different papers is proposed. To achieve corresponding color reproduction, dot gain compensatio nbased on saturation was applied to predict color reproduction on a printer. If the dot gain of pigment increases, the white portion of paper decreases while the saturation value increases monotonically. As the results of dot gain compensation, intensity change may appear. Therefore, an intensity compensation without any hue variation is followed to match the colors of different subtrates.

  • Potential fuel economy improvements and environmental legislation have renewed interest in Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. Computational models of fuel injection and mixing processes pre-ignition are being developed for engine optimisation. These highly transient thermofluid models require verification against temporally and spatially resolved data-sets. The authors have previously established the capability of PDA to provide suitable temporally and spatially resolved spray characteristics such as mean droplet size, velocity components and qualitative mass distribution. This paper utilises this data-set to assess the predictive capability of a numerical model for GDI spray prediction. After a brief description of the two-phase model and discretisation sensitivity, the influence of initial spray conditions is discussed. A minimum of 5 initial global spray characteristics are required to model the downstream spray characteristics adequately under isothermal, atmospheric conditions. Verification of predicted transient spray characteristics such as the hollow-cone, cone collapse, head vortex, stratification and penetration are discussed, and further improvements to modelling GDI sprays proposed.

Effect of Lecithin on Dermal Safety of Nanoemulsion Prepared from Hydrogenated Lecithin and Silicone Oil

  • In this study, a hydrogenated lecithin-containing nanoemulsion was prepared from hydrogenated lecithin and silicone oil. Tween-60 and liquid paraffin, widely known emulsifiers, were used as standard substances, and high shear was produced by utilizing a high shear homogenizer and microfluidizer. The properties of the nanoemulsion prepared with hydrogenated lecithin were evaluated by measuring interfacial tension, dynamic interfacial tension, droplet size, zeta-potential, friction force, skin surface hygrometery, and dermal safety. The interfacial tension of lecinol S10/silicone oil was lower than that of lecinol S10/liquid paraffin. The nanoemulsion prepared from hydrogenated lecithin shows lower zeta-potential, skin surface hygrometery, and friction force compared with a general emulsion. The silicone nanoemulsion prepared from hydrogenated lecithin showed a zero value in the patch test and thus exhibits high dermal safety.

고속유동장내 액체분열현상 (Phenomena of Liquid Jet Breakup in High Speed Gas Stream)

  • The present study investigates experimentally the characteristics of liquid jet, which is, the spray flow in the normal direction of the air stream under the flow conditions of air velocity $110\sim125m/s$. The present study adopts with the flow visualization technique using a short duration light bulb and the image processing analyse with CCD camera. Two types of injector were used: one is a flat plate type, and the other is backward facing step type, which height are 5, 8, 10mm. Dispersion of liquid jet can be represented by gray level of CCD camera. In the upstream of liquid jet, the backward facing step shows better liquid jet penetration. However, in the downstream. mean droplet size for backward facing step injector is smaller than that for flat plate injector
