  • Breakup models are evaluated using the experimental drop trajectory ill this study. The experimental conditions corespond to Weber # 56, 260, 463. Computations are carried out using a modified KIVA-II program with 2 different breakup submodel(TAB and Wave breakup model) and dynamic drag model which the drag coefficient changes dynamically with distortion parameter. Results show that computation with wave breakup model represents the experimental drop trajectory better than that with TAB submodel. And result with wave breakup model shows similar breakup pattern to experimental breakup process. It is thought that in wave breakup model the small drops are shed from the parent drop throughout parcel lifetime such thai this modelling represents the real breakup process well.

  • High velocity, gas-assisted liquid drop trajectories were investigated under well-controlled experimental conditions at elevated gas densities and room temperature. A monodisperse stream of drops which are generated by a vibrating-orifice drop generator were injected into a transverse high velocity gas stream. The gas density and air jet velocity were adjusted independently to keep the Weber numbers constant. The Weber numbers studied were 72, 148, 270, 532. The range of experimental conditions included studied the three drop breakup regimes previously referred as bag, stretching/thinning and catastrophic breakup regimes. High-magnification photography and conventional spray field photographs were taken to study the microscopic breakup mechanisms and the drop trajectories in high velocity gas flow fields, respectively. The parent drop trajectories were affected by the gas density and the gas jet velocities and do not show similarity with respect to the either Weber or the Reynolds number, as expected.

  • Drop placement accuracy and precision are the critical performance values of industrial ink jet deposition systems. Imperfect components and environments have severe impacts on drop placement. Litrex has identified over 120 error sources and developed engineering solutions to address the errors. In this paper, improved results using thermal compensation and stage mapping techniques are demonstrated. A recent progress in inkjet fabrication of multi-color electrophoretic display on flexible substrate with large distortion is also demonstrated.

  • The primary goal of this paper is to facilitate the rate-distortion control in compressed domain, without introducing a full decoding and re-encoding system in pixel domain. For this aim, the error propagation behavior over several frame-sequences due to DCT coefficients-drop is investigated on the basis of statistical and empirical properties. Then, such properties are used to develop a simple estimation model for the CD distortion accounting for the characteristics of the underlying coded-frame. Experimental results show that the proposed model allows us to effectively control rate-distortions into coded-frames over different kinds of video sequences.

  • High pressure injection is recently used to reduce the emissions and increase the power of DI diesel engine. This high pressure injection makes the spray strike the cylinder wall. This spray/wall impingement is known to affect the emission and performance of DI diesel engine such that it is very important to know the spray/wall impingement process. In this study, multidimensional computer program KIVA-II was used to clarify the effect of spray wall impingement by different injection spray angle with the spray/wall impingement model consiedering rebound and slide motion and also the improved submodel for liquid breakup, drop distortion model.

  • In this paper, a novel dead time minimization algorithm is proposed for improving the output waveform of an inverter. The adverse effects of the dead time are mainly described by the voltage drop and the distortion factor of waveforms. The principle of the proposed algorithm is organized with forbidding unnecessary firings fo the inverter switches which are not conducted even though the gate signal is impressed. The proposed methods are explained with the conduction mode of output currents. The H/W and S/W implementation method of the proposed algorithm are also presented. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the simulation and experimental results with conventional methods. It can be concluded from the results that the proposed algorithm has the advantage which is able to reduce the harmonics in the output voltages and which the output voltage can nearly be equal to the reference value. Another advantage of the proposed method is the reduction of total numbers of switching so that the switching losses of inverter drives can be minimized.

  • This paper presents the implementation for a network structure of railway cars using a point to point communication. Most of network's representative specifications for a train are the FIP (Field Bus), MVB (Multifunction Vehicle Bus), CAN and WTB (Wire Train Bus) which is used by ALSOM, SIEMENS and BOMBADIER as major in this field. These networks in a physical layer use a multi-drop method, connected from $1^{st}$ car to $n^{th}$ car of a train through a cable without any extra services such as an electric part, amplifier. However waveforms which is passed through a long cable in the multi-drop are distorted by a capacitance or resistance of the cable or environments. Also since using a cable connected directly from $1^{st}$ car to $n^{th}$ car, if over two trains make double head, it isn't easy to distinguish ID for each railway cars. So by using the point to point network per each car, it is able to reduce a distortion. Also since reducing distortion, this communication speed can be been higher and transmit and receive any packets more stably. Using proposed token in a packet, this can make ID per each railway car automatically. Finally experimental results show the good performance and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper reports the contamination performance of transmission line porcelain insulators tested under five different contaminant conditions - clean and ESDD (equivalent salt deposit density) level (A, B, C, and D) through measurement of their leakage current under drop of potential method. To estimate the contamination for transmission line porcelain insulators, leakage current waveform and its maximum value were measured under step-up power test. In the clean insulators test, % distortion factors decreased with increasing step-up power, and as the ESDD level increased, some characteristics such as frequency analysis, harmonics and % distortion facotor could be used for contamination diagnosis of the transmission line porcelain insulators.
