  • This paper has develops a new framework to understand the human’s driving maneuver based on the expression as HDS focusing on the driver’s stopping maneuver. The driving data has been collected by using the three-dimensional driving simulator based on CAVE, which provides three-dimensional visual information. In our modeling, the relationship between the measured information such as distance to the stop line, its first and second derivatives and the braking amount has been expressed by the PWPS model, which is a class of HDS. The key idea to solve the identification problem was to formulate the problem as the MILP with replacing the switching conditions by binary variables. From the obtained results, it is found that the driver appropriately switches the ‘control law’ according to the following scenario: At the beginning of the stopping behavior (just after finding the stopping point), the driver decelerate the vehicle based on the acceleration information, and then switch to the control law based on the distance to the stop line.

  • This study aims to investigate dynamic properties of express buses in the very low frequencies which affect motion sickness incidence. Since passengers often use express buses for long distance traveling, it is a critical point whether a give rise to motion sickness or not. In the study accelerations at the three points on the floor of the six test vehicles were measured during the driving at constant speeds. By applying frequency weighting curves suggested in ISO 2631-1 and ISO 2631-3, physical amount of accelerations were changed into perceptual amount which determines incidence of motion sickness. Motion sickness dose values were calculated from the frequency weighted time history of accelerations, and compared between the vehicles, driving conditions, and the seat positions in the bus. During the driving on public road and high ways for 50 minutes vomiting incidence ratios ranged 0.4 to 0.8%, which were equivalent to 2.4 to 4.8% for 5 hours' driving. The value of 4.8 % means two among 45 passengers may vomit after the traveling, which is very serious situation. Considering the very smooth driving condition at which the data were collected, motion sickness dose values will increase in real situations

  • The minimum distance between tunnel and interchange has several steps to go through for road users; when road user comes out of tunnel, he/she reads information on road sign and tries to change the lane, and then reaches the destination (interchange). So that's why that minimum distance between tunnel and interchange has to be designed to reflect human factors sufficiently for road's users. This study aims to set for minimum distance between tunnel and interchange with involved human factors. People aged from their twenties to their seventies took part in this experiment by using driving simulator. As a result, the minimum distance between them was loom long. When it comes to this study for minimum distance between tunnel and interchange, this study will be significant in some ways reason why this method can be applied to all road facilities for road safety on scientific basis. In the near future, It will make a recommendation concerning the most suitable data for road safety by contributing better guideline.

  • This study presents the behavior characteristics of buried three-layered pipeline subjected to pile driving loads. The analysis considered the driving energy caused by 7 tonf of ram weight and 1.2m of stroke. Also the distance from vibration resource to pipeline varies in 5m to 30m. The vibration velocity and stress are investigated at the center of pipeline in longitudinal direction. In the same cover depth, attenuation ratio of vibration velocity and von Mises stresses for distance increment has shown a decreasing trend. The maximum stress occurs at the top and bottom for the inner pipe, however, an irregular stress distribution is found for the outer pipe.

  • The vehicle label fuel economy is used as an energy management indicator nationwide. It induces technology development of automobile manufacturers and plays a role of providing information when purchasing a consumer vehicle. However, consumers who purchase a new vehicle continued to complain that the label fuel economy is different from the mandatory fuel economy rate. The domestic fuel economy measurement method is the same as the North American measurement method. The results of the two test modes (urban (FTP-75 mode), highway (HWFET mode)) are calculated in five test modes reflecting various environmental conditions and driving patterns 5-cycle correction formula is used which is equivalent to the fuel efficiency value. In this study, to solve the consumers' curiosity about the fuel economy of new vehicle, we use domestic fuel economy measurement method to measure the new car condition within 150 km of driving distance and the cumulative driving distance condition of domestic label fuel economy test vehicle. A comparative evaluation of fuel economy was carried out for a durability vehicle of $6,500{\pm}1,000km$. A result, mean value of the fuel economy of the four gasoline vehicles increased by 2.7 % in the city center mode and by 2.5 % in the highway mode in the durable vehicle compared new vehicle. And in the case of the diesel vehicle it increased by 2.5 % and 3.9 % respectively. The harmful exhaust gas emitted from the vehicle also resulted in more emissions of both gasoline and diesel vehicles in new vehicles. It is considered that the increase of the frictional force of the vehicle driving system and the lubricating oil system would have an effect on the reduction of the fuel economy of the new vehicle, and it was found that the fuel economy and the exhaust gas were improved by proper cumulative distance (domesticate) to the new vehicle.

  • This article proposes a new technique for the reduction of vibration and noise in the geared system by adjusting the distance between gear shafts. The vibration and noise may be produced by the abnormal force applied to the tooth face. And the force may be the cause of ununiform velocity in the driven shaft. If the velocity is obtained to be uniform by adjusting the distance between shafts. the vibration and noise may be reduced to some extent. In order to review, a dynamic analysis model for the gear train used in a mill turret and a test rig are developed. The velocities in the driven shaft are calculated by dynamic simulations for the model and noises in the test rig are measured with varying of the distance between shafts. The comparison of simulation and test data shows that the distance between shafts at the most uniform velocity has the lowest level of noise.

  • A driving load estimation method for intelligent cruise control(ICC) vehicles has been proposed in this paper. Vehicle driving load is one of the most important factors of perturbations in vehicle control and can affect the control performance critically. The effect of the control with driving load estimation on vehicle-to-vehicle distance control has been presented and investigated via computer simulations and vehicle tests. The results show that vehicle-driving-load-adaptive control can provide an ICC system with a good acceleration tracking performance. In addition, the results show that driving load estimation can compensate not only the variation of driving load but also the modeling errors.

  • This paper addresses a method for evaluating perceived velocities of the graphic module in a driving simulator. The major two graphic factors associated with perceived velocities are analyzed: they are the lateral distance between a virtual driver and an array of environmental objects and the textural density of these objects. A graphical representation of a vehicle and its surrounding environment are constructed by employing a three-dimensional tool, Pro/ENGINEER and a virtual environment, dVISE. Using the developed virtual driving environment, experiments have been carried out to formulate the relationship between velocity perception and each factor. Based on the experimental results, nonlinear regression equations are derived to show how the perceived velocities are dependent upon distance/density.

  • With the active development of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the application of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) has been expanded. As wide driving region of IPMSM for electric vehicle (EV) traction motor is required, many studies are conducted to improve characteristics of a motor in both low and high-speed driving regions. A motor in high-speed driving region generates (produces) large stress to the rotor. Thus, the rotor needs to be designed considering the mechanical safety. Therefore, in this paper, we conducted stress analysis and electromagnetic analysis to determine the centerpost's distance which is considered important during the design of IPMSM for EV traction motor in order to secure mechanical safety and satisfy specifications of output requirement.
