  • In a hard disk drive (HDD) control system, a state-space controller/observer design is popularly adopted fur its advantages such as effective filtering of position and velocity, use of estimation error to handle servo defects, etc. In this report, a systematic method is proposed to accommodate the transport delay in the plant dynamics into the state estimator. • In the designs of integrated circuits, the buffer circuits used for driving a large capacitive load from minimum-structured logic circuit outputs have important effects upon system throughputs. Therefore it is important to optimize the buffer circuits. In this paper, the principle of designing CMOS buffer circuits which have the minimum delay and drive the given capacitive load is discussed. That is, the effects of load capacitance upon rise time, fall time, and delay of the CMOS inverter and the effects of parasitic capacitances are finely analysed to calculate the requested minimum-delay CMOS buffer condition. This is different from the method by C.A. Mead et. al.[2.3.4.]which deals with passive-load-nMOS buffers. Large channel width MOS transistor stages are necessary to drive a large capacitive load. The effects of polysilicon gate resistances of such large stages upon delay are also analysed. And, the area of buffer circuits designed by the proposed method is smaller than that of buffer circuits designed by C.A. Mead's method.

  • This paper presents a novel hall sensor fault detection and fault-tolerant control method for a high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. A phase locked loop (PLL) type position estimator is used with a conventional interpolation based rotor position estimator to reduce position errors due to misalignment of hall sensors. The expected trigger time of hall sensor's output is used for detecting hall sensor fault condition and the PLL type position estimator is reconfigured for fault-tolerant control at the hall sensor fault condition. The proposed method can minimize current ripples during the transition from sensored control using hall sensors to sensorless control. Experimental results have been proposed to prove the validity of the proposed method.

  • A method that predicts the flying state of the head slider in an optical disk drive (ODD) or a hard disk drive(HDD) was investigated. The dual solver based on the Newton method and the quasi-Newton method have been developed to simulate the steady-state flying conditions. The numerical results show the effectiveness and reliability of this new solver.

  • In This paper, the output characteristics and vibrations were compared and analyzed according to operation method in 100W class. The voltage source is applied only two phase in BLDC drive system therefore commutation torque ripple and imbalance of RMF occurred. Due to this efficiency was significantly degraded because mechanical loss is increased, besides the vibration and noise were greatly generated. The vibration and output characteristics were compared and analyzed according to three phase and BLDC drive system.

  • This paper proposes a new and simple input prediction method for robust servo system. A robust tracking control system for optical disk drives was proposed recently based on both Coprime Factorization (CF) and Zero Phase Error Tracking (ZPET) control. The CF control system can be designed simply and systematically. Moreover, this system has not only stability but also robustness to parameter uncertainties and disturbance rejection capability. Since optical disk tracking servo system can detect only tracking error, it was proposed that the reference input signal for ZPET could be estimated from tracking errors. In this paper, we propose a new control structure for the ZPET controller. It requires less memory than the previously proposed method for the reference signal generation. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method is effective.

  • Systematic design of a controller for a water temperature system was considered, with the intention of devising an accurate control experiment. The results of an experiment using a water temperature system based on the pole placement regulator showed water temperature oscillation and steady state error. This paper proposed a. method for eliminating both the oscillation and the steady state error. The oscillation was eliminated by a drive delay compensation technique, in which a future state value of the system was predicted through a real time computer simulation. The steady state error was eliminated by an steady state error correction technique, in which an actual steady state heatrate in the system model was replaced by an imaginary heatrate. By combining these two techniques, we obtained an experimental result for water temperature control of 0.01 (.deg. C) accuracy. Furthermore, the proposed method was evaluated relatively by comparing the experimental results using several other methods and proved to be the most accurate and convenient control method for the delay system.

  • Tracking control schemes on the precise mechanical system in presence of nonlinear dynamic friction is proposed. A nonlinear dynamic friction is regarded as the bristle friction model to compensate fer effects of friction. The conventional SMC method often shows poor tracking performance in high-precision position tracking application since it cannot completely compensate for the friction effect below a certain precision level. Thus to improve the precise position tracking performance, we propose the SMC method combined with the disturbance observer having tunable transient performance. Then this control scheme has the high precise tracking peformance as well as a good transient response when it is compared with the conventional SMC method and the similar types of observers, The experiment on the XY ball-screw drive system with the nonlinear dynamic friction confirms the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

  • This paper presents a new approach for fault diagnosis in three-level neutral point clamped inverters. The proposed method is based on the average values of the positive and negative parts of normalized output currents. This method is capable of detecting and locating multiple open-circuit faults in the controlled power switches of converters in half of a fundamental period of those currents. The implementation of this diagnostic approach only requires two output currents of the inverter. Therefore, no additional sensors are needed other than the ones already used by the control system of a drive based on this type of converter. Moreover, through the normalization of currents, the diagnosis is independent of the load level of the converter. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic technique are validated by experimental results obtained under steady-state and transient conditions.
