In this study, the significant wave height and wave period of a specially designed observation system that connected two drifting buoys to an ocean data buoy was observed for 23 days from February 7 to 29, 2020, and the results were compared and analyzed. The results indicated that, in comparison to the ocean data buoy, the drifting buoy exhibited greater variability in significant wave height over shorter time intervals. The wave period of the ocean data buoy also appeared longer than that of the drifting buoy. The greater the observed significant wave height and wave period from both the ocean data and drifting buoys, the more pronounced the differences between the two observation instruments become. Moreover, the study revealed that the disparity in observation methods between the ocean data and drifting buoys did not significantly affect the significant wave height characteristics, as long as the period remained unchanged for up to half of the observation time.
For the study of oceanic surface current, this work presents a system design which is composed of three parts, a Global Positiong System(GPS) unit, a transmitter with radio frequency (RF) modem and an antenna which are housed in a plastic spherical buoy, and computerised of VHF receiving system. The key idea for this study is to employ a commercially available GPS on a drifting buoy and to utilize the receiver position information from the buoy in determining the Lagrangian motion of surface ocean waters. Great efforts has been paid to the system design which would demand several points in harsh conditions common in the sea surface, that is power supply problems housed inside of a plastic buoy, optimizing transmitting radio frequency which limits transmitting distance to a receiving station. for all these difficulties, the system appears to be promising in future oceanic applications and is considered to economical compared to ARGOS drift buoy which is being used by commercial base. We believe that the system needs to be improved in terms of several aspects such as a longer transmitting distance, a power supply and software. for the test experiments in situ, the system has employed off the coast of Ku Ryong Po int the southeast part of Korea and successfully collected the surface current data. The results are presented for two cases from 21 to 31, March 1994 and 21 to 25, June 1994 in terms of current statistics and trajectories of drifting buoys.

An initial attempt to establish predictive system of sea surface current and trajectories of drifting bodies for seas adjacent to Korea is described. A predictive system for the Korea Strait area was first set up based on Data Tables for surface tidal currents, surface wind-driven currents and density-driven currents. Simulations thus performed were in general agreements with satellite tracking buoy observations available in this region.

The surface current in the region from Mara-do to mid of the Pacific has been measured by tracking the position of a buoy. The buoy was accidentally released from its original location, near Mara-do, and it has been drifting following the surface current. The tracking started on 27 December 2001 and continued until 29 June 2002. We combined the trace oi the buoy with the wind data available.

This is a brief report on the development of a system which provides fishing vessels with a real-time key information that can direct to regions of high fish density. Water temperature and Plankton distribution are the base parameters and various public information have been examined and summarized. The suface water temperature can be obtained from NOAA's high resolution infrared data base and the vertical water temperature can be obtained from TAO/TRITON's buoy near the equator and ARGOS's drifting buoy covering wider Pacific ocean. MODIS's data is also utilized for sea color information. A model data format is proposed and a few examples are demonstrated.

The light buoy, a floating structure at sea, is prone to drifting due to external factors such as oceanic weather. This makes it imperative to monitor for any loss or displacement of buoys. In order to address this issue, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries aims to issue alerts for buoy displacement by analyzing historical buoy position data to detect patterns. However, periodic lifting inspections, which are conducted every two years, disrupt the buoy's location pattern. As a result, new patterns need to be analyzed after each inspection for location monitoring. In this study, buoy position data from various periods were analyzed using convex hull and distance-based clustering algorithms. In addition, the optimal data collection period was identified in order to accurately recognize buoy location patterns. The findings suggest that a nine-week data collection period established stable location patterns, explaining approximately 89.8% of the variance in location data. These results can improve the management of light buoys based on location patterns and aid in the effective monitoring and early detection of buoy displacement.

Positions of five drifting buoys deployed on August 2020 near southwestern area of Jeju Island and numerically predicted velocities were used to develop five Artificial Intelligence-based models (AI models) for the prediction of particle tracks. Five AI models consisted of three machine learning models (Extra Trees, LightGBM, and Support Vector Machine) and two deep learning models (DNN and RBFN). To evaluate the prediction accuracy for six models, the predicted positions from five AI models and one numerical model were compared with the observed positions from five drifting buoys. Three skills (MAE, RMSE, and NCLS) for the five buoys and their averaged values were calculated. DNN model showed the best prediction accuracy in MAE, RMSE, and NCLS.

The function of navigational aids are to be coincided with the development of navigational equipment and increase of traffics on the sea fairway. Supplementary function or side effect of wharf-edge illumination would be effective to indicate fairway indirectly and collision avoidance between ships and bridge against background light in port area at night also a serious-view light on the bridge posts would be effective to ensure the drifting ships by wind and current force adjacent bridge area.
Competitive power of pelagic fishery in Korea has been weakened by the domestic and international problems such as wage increase and exclusive economic zone. To make it worse, fishing fleet spends more than 80% of fishing time on searching fishing grounds. Real-time information on oceanographic data, temperature in particular, are likely to contribute to raise efficiency of fishing. However, available data obtained by satellite remote sensing, fixed buoy and drifting buoy, limited to sea surface or fixed positions. ARGO (Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography), an international program, has delivered vertical profiles of temperature and salinity in the upper 2000m of the world ocean every 10 days using freely moving floats. We have developed real-time oceanographic information system for pelagic fishery based on the Argo data which has the contents of vertical profile, horizontal distribution and vertical section of temperature around fishing grounds and searched data can be download unrestrictedly. Comparison of skipjack catch with sea surface temperature and depth of $20^{\circ}C$ derived from Argo data in the West Equatorial Pacific revealed that Argo data are able to help fishing fleet to find fishing grounds and to increase catch.

In order to improve the accuracy of particle tracking prediction techniques near the Korean Strait, this study compared and analyzed a particle tracking model based on a seawater flow numerical model and a machine learning based on a particle tracking model using field observation data. The data used in the study were the surface drifter buoy movement trajectory data observed in the Korea Strait, prediction data by machine learning (linear regression, decision tree) using the tide and wind data from three observation stations (Gageo Island, Geoje Island, Gyoboncho), and prediciton data by numerical models (ROMS, MOHID). The above three data were compared through three error evaluation methods (Correlation Coefficient (CC), Root Mean Square Errors (RMSE), and Normalized Cumulative Lagrangian Separation (NCLS)). As a final result, the decision tree model had the best prediction accuracy in CC and RMSE, and the MOHID model had the best prediction results in NCLS.
