The purpose of this research was intended to investigate drag queens' and drag kings' gender identity not only as a comic and desexualized drag borrowing external characteristics of the opposite sex but also as the subject visualizing and performing' the third sex'. It also aimed to examine formative aesthetic characteristics and aesthetical value of drag queen's and drag king's fashion and to confirm the functions of drag queen's and drag kins's fashion to establish, visualize and Perform the discordant sex. For this process, research steps were as follows : 1. Understanding drag, drag queen and drag king in social, psychological context as well as in gender context. 2. Finding visualized forms which drag performance interchange with mass media 3. Analyzing similarities and differences between drag queen's fashion and drag king's fashion. 4. Examining the aesthetical characteristics and the value of drag queen's and drag king's fashion. The results of characteristics of drag queen's fashion could be categorized into stereotype, mimicry, kitch, inconsistency and commercialism. And the characteristics of drag king's fashion could be divided into reality, self-consciousness, mimicry, inconsistency, subversion and multiplicity. Drag queens create plausible impressions of feminity through the use of wigs, dresses, jewelry, makeup, hormones and through &role Playing&. Similarly drag kings produce a plausible masculinity taking gay male aesthetic using suits, crotch stuffers, facial hair, and greased hair. Male and female impersonation produce very different notions of gender performance for male and female embodiment. Drag kings' performance of masculinity demands authentic property of bodies so rather nonperformative, while drag queens' performance of femininity depends on more visible and theatrical fashion.

This paper presents a new estimation method of full scale propulsive performance for the pulling type podded propeller. In order to estimate the drag of pod housing, a drag velocity ratio, which includes the effects of podded propeller loading and Reynolds number, is presented and evaluated through the comparison of model test and numerical analysis. By separating the thrust of propeller blade and the drag of pod housing, extrapolation method of pod housing drag to full scale is deduced, and correction method of propeller blade thrust and torque to full scale is presented. This study utilized the drag coefficient ratio of the pod housing as a measure for expanding it to full scale, but in order to increase the accuracy of performance evaluation, additional study is necessary on the method for the full scale expansion via separating the drag of pod body, strut and fin which consist the pod housing.
One of the most important aerodynamic performance characteristics for projectiles is the total drag which can be typically divided into three components, pressure drag (excluding the base), viscous skin friction drag, and base drag. In a range of supersonic flight speeds the base drag is a major contributor to the total drag and can be as much as 50%∼70% of the total drag, depending on the afterbody configuration of projectiles. It is of especial importance to minimize this part of. the drag.
During the preliminary design phase of a supersonic aircraft, it is necessary to evaluate many potential engine/airframe combinations to determine the best solution to given set of mission requirements. And it is very important to establish a methodology to predict precisely afterbody drag so that accurate engine installed performance can be estimated. It was carried out in this paper to establish a methodology to predict afterbody drag of F-15K supersonic aircraft based on IMS(Integral Mean Slope) methodology, acquire afterbody drag data and compare its calculated data with the test data acquired from the wind tunnel test data based on 4.7% model scale. The comparison results showed good agreement between the calculated data and test data and it was found that the methodology described here to predict and test afterbody drag is acceptable.
Reduction of the fuel oil consumption and corresponding greenhouse gas exhausted from ships is an important issue for today's ship design and shipping. Several concepts and devices on the superstructure of a container ship were suggested and tested in the wind tunnel to estimate the air drag reduction. As a preliminary performance evaluation, air drag contributions of each part of the superstructure and containers were estimated based on RANS simulation respectively. Air drag reduction efficiency of shape modification and add-on devices on the superstructure and containers was also estimated. Gap-protectors between containers and a visor in front of upper deck were found to be most effective for drag reduction. Wind tunnel tests had been carried out to confirm the drag reduction performance between the baseline(without any modification) configuration and two modified superstructure configurations which were designed and chosen based on the computation results. The test results with the modified configurations show considerable aerodynamic drag reduction, especially the gap-protectors between containers show the largest reduction for the wide range of heading angles. RANS computations for three configurations were performed and compared with the wind tunnel tests. Computation result shows the similar drag reduction trend with experiment for small heading angles. However, the computation result becomes less accurate as heading angle is increasing where the massively separated flow is spread over the leeward side.
The flaw around a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) has been numerically investigated to improve resistance performance by modifying the hull form of the ROV. For the base hull form considered in this study, the form drag rather than the friction drag is dominant to the total drag Subsequently, the surfaces on which the local pressure highly acts have been modified to produce the streamlined-shape. Based on the surface modification, seven different hull forms have been chosen as candidates for drag reduction. Among the candidates, the semi-sphericalized housing and the streamlined-bow achieved greatest drag reduction comparing with the others. Consequently, the hull form combined with the semi-sphericalized housing and the streamlined-bow gave approximately 17% drag reduction at the design velocity of 3 knots.
The entry guidance design involves trajectory optimization and generation of a drag acceleration profile as the satisfaction of trajectory conditions during the entry flight. The reference trajectory is parameterized and optimized as piecewise linear functions of the velocity. A regularization technique is employed to achieve desired properties of the optimal drag profile. The regularized problem has smoothness properties and the minimization of performance index then prevents the drag acceleration from varying too fast, thus eliminating discontinuities. This paper shows the trajectory control using the simple control law as well as the information of reference drag acceleration.
End-Labeled Free-Solution Electrophoresis (ELFSE) is a new technique that is a promising bioconjugate method for DNA sequencing (or separation) and genotyping by both capillary and microfluidic device electrophoresis. Because ELFSE enables high-resolution electrophoretic separation in aqueous buffer alone (i.e., without a polymer matrix), it eliminates the need to load viscous polymer networks into electrophoresis microchannels. To achieve microchannel DNA separations with high performance, ELFSE requires monodisperse perturbing entities (i.e., drag-tags), which create a large amount of frictional drag when pulled behind DNA during free-solution electrophoresis, and which have other properties suitable for microchannel electrophoresis. In this article, the theoretical concepts of ELFSE and the required characteristics of the drag-tag molecules for the ultimate performance of ELFSE are reviewed. Additionally, the merits and limitations of current drag-tags are also discussed in the context of recent experimental data of ELFSE separation (or sequencing).
In this paper, the pumping performance of the two-stage disk-type drag pump which works in the outlet pressure range from 3 to 0.001 Torr is studied experimentally. The rotational speed of the pump is 24,000rpm, and nitrogen is used as a test gas. The pumping characteristics of various drag pumps are performed. The inlet pressures are measured for various outlet pressures of the test pump. The maximum compression ratios for zero throughput are 1000(two-stage BSC type), 740(helical-type), 90(BSC type) and 85(OSC type), respectively. The ultimate pressure of the two-stage disk-type drag pump is $8.1\times10^6$ Torr.
Accurate prediction of a supersonic missile base drag continues to defy even well-rounded CFD codes. In an effort to address the accuracy and predictability of the base drags, the influence of grid system and competitive turbulence models on the base drag is analyzed. Characteristics of some turbulence models is reviewed through incompressible turbulent flow over a flat plate, and performance for the base drag prediction of several turbulence models such as Baldwin-Loman(B-L), Spalart-Allmaras(S-A), k-$\varepsilon$, k-$\omega$ model is assessed. When compressibility correction is injected into the S-A model, prediction accuracy of the base drag is enhanced. The NSWC wind tunnel test data are utilized for comparison of CFD and semi-empirical codes on the accuracy of base drag predictability: they are about equal, but CFD tends to perform better. It is also found that, as angle of attack of a missile with control fins increases, even the best CFD analysis tool we have lacks the accuracy needed for the base drag prediction.
