Chaterji strengthened version of a theorem for martin-gales which is a generalization of a theorem of Marcinkiewicz proving that if $X_n$ is a sequence of independent, identically distributed random variables with $E{\mid}X_n{\mid}^p\;<\;{\infty}$, 0 < P < 2 and $EX_1\;=\;1{\leq}\;p\;<\;2$ then $n^{-1/p}{\sum^n}_{i=1}X_i\;\rightarrow\;0$ a,s, and in $L^p$. In this paper, we probe a version of law of large numbers for double arrays. If ${X_{ij}}$ is a double sequence of random variables with $E{\mid}X_{11}\mid^log^+\mid X_{11}\mid^p\;<\infty$, 0 < P <2, then $lim_{m{\vee}n{\rightarrow}\infty}\frac{{\sum^m}_{i=1}{\sum^n}_{j=1}(X_{ij-a_{ij}}}{(mn)^\frac{1}{p}}\;=0$ a.s. and in $L^p$, where $a_{ij}$ = 0 if 0 < p < 1, and $a_{ij}\;=\;E[X_{ij}\midF_[ij}]$ if $1{\leq}p{\leq}2$, which is a generalization of Etemadi's marcinkiewicz-type SLLN for double arrays. this also generalize earlier results of Smythe, and Gut for double arrays of i.i.d. r.v's.
Various fluorine-containing materials are used in electronic devices like LCD display panels and Li-ion batteries. The structural conformation of fluorine in fluorinated materials is an important contributing factor that influences the chemical and physical properties. The conformation can be changed by heat and stress during manufacture or use. Understanding the conformational changes is critical for understanding the performance and durability of electronic devices. Solid-state NMR spectroscopy could be widely used for the analysis of various fluorine-containing materials for electronic devices. However, conventional CPMAS probes cannot be used for in-situ analysis of fluorine-containing electronic devices like LCD panels and Li-ion batteries. In this paper, we show the design, construction, and optimization of a $^{19}F-^{13}C$ double-resonance solid-state NMR probe for a 400MHz wide-bore magnet with a flat square coil for in-situ analysis of fluorine-containing electronic devices without observing fluorine background signals. This custom-built probe does not show any fluorine background signals, and can have higher efficiency for lossy samples.
The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique was applied to investigate the effects of Reynolds number and the characteristics of the organized motions or coherent structures as a function of downstream position from x/D=2 to 6 in a turbulent axisymmetric shear layer at Reynolds numbers of 78,400, 117,600, and 156,800. Data were collected simultaneously using the 138 hot-wire probe used by Citriniti and George (2000). The POD was then applied to a double Fourier transform in time and azimuthal direction of the double velocity correlation tensor. The lowest azimuthal mode for all POD modes, which dominated the dynamics at x=D = 3 in the previous experiments, dies off rapidly downstream. This is consistent with a trend toward homogeneity in the downstream evolution, and suggests that some residual value may control the growth rate of the far jet. On the other hand, for the higher azimuthal modes, the peak shifts to lower mode numbers and actually increases with downstream distance. These mixing layer data, normalized by similarity variables for the mixing layer, collapse at all downstream positions and are nearly independent of Reynolds numbers.

A flexible but implantable polyimide-based neural implant was fabricated for reliable and stable long-term monitoring of neural activities from brain. The developed neural implant provides 3-dimensional (3D) $3{\times}3$ structure, avoids any hand handling, and makes the insertion more efficient and reliable. Any film curvature caused by residual stress was not observed in the electrode. The 3D flexible polyimide electrode penetrated a dense gel whose stiffness is close to live brain tissue, because a ${\sim}1{\mu}m$ thick nickel was electroplated along the edge of the shank in order to improve the stiffness. The recording sites were positioned at both side of the shank to increase the probability of recording neural signals from a target volume of tissue. Impedance remained stable over 72 hours because of extremely low moisture uptake in the polyimide dielectric layers. At electrical recording test in vitro, the fabricated electrode showed excellent recording performance, suggesting that this electrode has the potential for great recording from neuron firing and long-term implant performance.
RNA molecules which bind to the G-rich sequence in the 5'-UTR RNA which plays an important role in expression of N-ras, were selected. The secondary structures of five selected RNA aptamers including primer sequence were found by the CLC RNA workbench ver. 4.2 program (www.clcbio.com) and investigated with RNA structural probes such as RNase T1 which has specificity for a G in single-stranded region, RNase V1 specific for double strand and nuclease S1 specific for single strand. The generalized secondary structure model was proposed and characterized. It was composed of a central long double strand region flanked by single strand region at both end sides. The double strand region had an internal single-strand region and bulges. The single strand loop in the right side was composed of four or five nucleotides.
A small number of active galactic nuclei are known to exhibit prominent double peak emission profiles that are well-fitted by a relativistic accretion disk model. We develop a Monte Carlo code to compute the linear polarization of a double peaked broad emission line arising from Thomson scattering. A Keplerian accretion disk is adopted for the double peak emission line region and the geometry is assumed to be Schwarzschild. Far from the accretion disk where flat Minkowski geometry is appropriate, we place an azimuthally symmetric scattering region in the shape of a spherical shell sliced with ${\Delta}{\mu}=0.1$. Adopting a Monte Carlo method we generate line photons in the accretion disk in arbitrary directions in the local rest frame and follow the geodesic paths of the photons until they hit the scattering region. The profile of the polarized flux is mainly determined by the relative location of the scattering region with respect to the emission source. When the scattering region is in the polar direction, the degree of linear polarization also shows a double peak structure. Under favorable conditions we show that up to 0.6% linear polarization may be obtained. We conclude that spectropolarimetry can be a powerful probe to reveal much information regarding the accretion disk geometry of these active galactic nuclei.

One of the important roles of a DNA chip is the capability of detecting genetic diseases and mutations by analyzing DNA sequence. For a successful electrochemical genotyping, several aspects should be considered including the chemical treatment of electrode surface, DNA immobilization on electrode, hybridization, choice of an intercalator to be selectively bound to double standee DNA, and an equipment for detecting and analyzing the output signal. Au was used as the electrode material, 2-mercaptoethanol was used for linking DNA to Au electrode, and methylene blue was used as an indicator that can be bound to a double stranded DNA selectively. From the analysis of reductive current of this indicator that was bound to a double stranded DNA on an electrode, a normal double stranded DNA was able to be distinguished from a single stranded DNA in just a few seconds. Also, it was found that the peak reduction current of indicator is proportional to the concentration of target DNA to be hybridized with probe DNA. Therefore, it is possible to realize a sim71e and cheats DNA sensor using the electrochemical measurement for genotyping.
Three different parallel antennas are designed to investigate plasma uniformity and magnetic field using a double Langmuir probe and a magnetic probe. Butterfly antenna has the highest density of ~~$2\times10^{11}(\textrmcm^{-3})$ among the three antennas and has electron temperature less than 2 eV, lower than the spiral antenna. It is found that the power efficiency becomes lower with spaced parallel antenna elements due to oppositely directed currents and positive coupling.
Objectives The present study was designed to systematically characterize the denaturation and the renaturation of double stranded DNA (dsDNA), which is suitable for DNA hybridization. Methods A series of physical and chemical denaturation methods were implemented on well-defined 86-bp dsDNA fragment. The degree of each denaturation was measured and the most suitable denaturation method was determined. DNA renaturation tendency was also investigated for the suggested denaturation method. Results Heating, beads mill, and sonication bath did not show any denaturation for 30 minutes. However probe sonication fully denatured DNA in 5 minutes. 1 mol/L sodium hydroxide (alkaline treatment) and 60% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) treatment fully denatured DNA in 2-5 minutes. Conclusions Among all the physical methods applied, the direct probe sonication was the most effective way to denature the DNA fragments. Among chemical methods, 60% DMSO was the most adequate denaturation method since it does not cause full renaturation during DNA hybridization.

In this work, the study on the $SiO_2$ film non-uniformity by PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) was performed. Plasma diagnostics was analyzed by a DLP(Double Langmuir Probe) and a probe-type QMS(Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer) in order to investigate the spatial distribution of the plasma species in the chamber. The relationship between the plasma species and the depositing rate of the films was examined. On the basis of this work, it was confirmed that O radical density mainly contributed to the increase in the depositing rate of the $SiO_2$ films and the electron temperature in the plasma had a main effect on the formation of the oxygen radicals.
