Classification of Gripping Movement in Daily Life Using EMG-based Spider Chart and Deep Learning (근전도 기반의 Spider Chart와 딥러닝을 활용한 일상생활 잡기 손동작 분류)

  • In this paper, we propose a pre-processing method that converts to Spider Chart image data for classification of gripping movement using EMG (electromyography) sensors and Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) deep learning. First, raw data for six hand gestures are extracted from five test subjects using an 8-channel armband and converted into Spider Chart data of octagonal shapes, which are divided into several sliding windows and are learned. In classifying six hand gestures, the classification performance is compared with the proposed pre-processing method and the existing methods. Deep learning was performed on the dataset by dividing 70% of the total into training, 15% as testing, and 15% as validation. For system performance evaluation, five cross-validations were applied by dividing 80% of the entire dataset by training and 20% by testing. The proposed method generates 97% and 94.54% in cross-validation and general tests, respectively, using the Spider Chart preprocessing, which was better results than the conventional methods.

The Signal Acquisition Algorithm for Ultra Wide-band Communication Systems (UWB 통신시스템에서 동기 획득 알고리즘)

  • Due to the extremely short pulse in the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, the accurate synchronization acquisition method is very important for both high data-rate WPAN and low data-rate WPAN. In this paper, we propose the synchronization acquisition algorithm based on two-step signal search method to acquire the synchronization in the UWB multi-path channel. At the first step, the search window is divided by two and the window that has higher power is chosen as a next search window. This operation is repeated until the measure power of the search window is smaller than the threshold value. At the second step, we employ Linear Search algorithm to the search window obtained at the first step for fine search. The proposed algorithm is proved that the synchronization acquisition is faster than the parallel search algorithm and it shows good performance in environment of the SNR extreme changes by the simulation.

Object-based Image Classification by Integrating Multiple Classes in Hue Channel Images (Hue 채널 영상의 다중 클래스 결합을 이용한 객체 기반 영상 분류)

  • In high-resolution satellite image classification, when the color values of pixels belonging to one class are different, such as buildings with various colors, it is difficult to determine the color information representing the class. In this paper, to solve the problem of determining the representative color information of a class, we propose a method to divide the color channel of HSV (Hue Saturation Value) and perform object-based classification. To this end, after transforming the input image of the RGB color space into the components of the HSV color space, the Hue component is divided into subchannels at regular intervals. The minimum distance-based image classification is performed for each hue subchannel, and the classification result is combined with the image segmentation result. As a result of applying the proposed method to KOMPSAT-3A imagery, the overall accuracy was 84.97% and the kappa coefficient was 77.56%, and the classification accuracy was improved by more than 10% compared to a commercial software.

Generation of Large-scale Map of Surface Sedimentary Facies in Intertidal Zone by Using UAV Data and Object-based Image Analysis (OBIA) (UAV 자료와 객체기반영상분석을 활용한 대축척 갯벌 표층 퇴적상 분류도 작성)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the possibility of precise surface sedimentary facies classification and a more accurate classification method by generating the large-scale map of surface sedimentary facies based on UAV data and object-based image analysis (OBIA) for Hwang-do tidal flat in Cheonsu bay. The very high resolution UAV data extracted factors that affect the classification of surface sedimentary facies, such as RGB ortho imagery, Digital elevation model (DEM), and tidal channel density, and analyzed the principal components of surface sedimentary facies through statistical analysis methods. Based on principal components, input data to be used for classification of surface sedimentary facies were divided into three cases such as (1) visible band spectrum, (2) topographical elevation and tidal channel density, (3) visible band spectrum and topographical elevation, tidal channel density. The object-based image analysis classification method was applied to map the classification of surface sedimentary facies according to conditions of input data. The surface sedimentary facies could be classified into a total of six sedimentary facies following the folk classification criteria. In addition, the use of visible band spectrum, topographical elevation, and tidal channel density enabled the most effective classification of surface sedimentary facies with a total accuracy of 63.04% and the Kappa coefficient of 0.54.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the orthogonal MC DS-CDMA system and no-overlapping MC DS-CDMA System, which were divided by the normalized spacing between adjacent subcarrier over Nakagami-m fading channels. In order to reduce the number of selective paths occurring in the MC system, the Hybrid SCMRC technique was applied, which was compared with the case when the MRC technique was used. As a result of simulations, it was found that the Hybrid SC/MRC method could be replaced by the MRC method and if the number of subcarriers was increased when the given bandwidth was fixed, the interval between subcarriers increased and bigger bandwidths were required. an, the number or subcarriers should be selected in consideration or given bandwidth.

Dual Modulation Driving for Poly-Si TFT Active Matrix OLED Displays (다결정 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터 Active Matrix OLED 디스플레이를 위한 이중 변조 구동)

  • We developed a new ANGLED display driving method which used both amplitude and pulse width modulation. For pulse width modulation, we divided a picture frame time into S sub-frames. For amplitude modulation, we used three OLED luminance(or current) levels which were controlled by TFT's gate voltages. By combining these two modulation methods, we obtained 35(=243) grey levels. And we designed a new data electrode driving circuit block with two shift registers without using DAC's. To verify the feasibility, we simulated the key circuit components by HSpice with TFT parameters extracted from current-voltage characteristics of 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ channel length polysilicon TFT's. From the simulation results, we found that 320${\times}$240, dual scan, 243 grey level AMOLED display can be designed with this method.

Improved Cancellation of Impulse Noise Using Rank-Order Method (Rank-Order 방법을 이용한 개선된 임펄스 잡음 제거)

  • This paper proposes a cancellation algorithm of impulse noise using a rank-order method. The proposed method is a fast and simple algorithm that is composed of two parts. The first part involves noise detection using a fuzzy technique, where an image is divided into RGB color channels. Then every pixel in each color channel is investigated and assigned a probability indicating its chances of being a noise pixel. At this time, the rank order method using a noise-detection mask is utilized for accurate noise detection. Thereafter, the second part involves noise-cancellation, where each noise-pixel value in an image is replaced in proportion to its fuzzy probability. Through the experiments, both the conventional and proposed methods were simulated and compared. As a result, it is shown that proposed method is able to detect noisy pixels more accurately, and produce resulting images with high PSNR values.

  • In this paper, a frame synchronization structure for the Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation method in underwater acoustic communication was proposed. The proposed frame synchronization structure is largely divided into two. First, the approximate position and frequency offset of the frame are obtained by non-coherent correlation and sliding Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method. Second, after compensating for the frequency error to the received signal, the exact position of the frame is obtained by coherent correlation method. Maritime experiments were conducted to confirm the performance of the 2-STEP frame synchronization structure. It was showed that the limitations of the non-coherent correlation and sliding FFT method can be verified when the power of the received signal was greatly reduced due to the channel characteristics. As a result, stable frame synchronization could be obtained by compensating for the frequency error and then using the coherent correlation method.

MDA-SMAC: An Energy-Efficient Improved SMAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In sensor medium access control (SMAC) protocol, sensor nodes can only access the channel in the scheduling and listening period. However, this fixed working method may generate data latency and high conflict. To solve those problems, scheduling duty in the original SMAC protocol is divided into multiple small scheduling duties (micro duty MD). By applying different micro-dispersed contention channel, sensor nodes can reduce the collision probability of the data and thereby save energy. Based on the given micro-duty, this paper presents an adaptive duty cycle (DC) and back-off algorithm, aiming at detecting the fixed duty cycle in SMAC protocol. According to the given buffer queue length, sensor nodes dynamically change the duty cycle. In the context of low duty cycle and low flow, fair binary exponential back-off (F-BEB) algorithm is applied to reduce data latency. In the context of high duty cycle and high flow, capture avoidance binary exponential back-off (CA-BEB) algorithm is used to further reduce the conflict probability for saving energy consumption. Based on the above two contexts, we propose an improved SMAC protocol, micro duty adaptive SMAC protocol (MDA-SMAC). Comparing the performance between MDA-SMAC protocol and SMAC protocol on the NS-2 simulation platform, the results show that, MDA-SMAC protocol performs better in terms of energy consumption, latency and effective throughput than SMAC protocol, especially in the condition of more crowded network traffic and more sensor nodes.

An efficient Frequency and Symbol Synchronization Scheme for DVB-T System (DVB-T 시스템을 위한 효율적인 주파수 및 심볼동기 구조)

  • This paper proposes an efficient frequency and symbol synchronization structure which could solve problems of the conventional methods to implement DVB-T receive modem which adopted OFDM transmission method. The main considerations of frequency synchronization algorithms are that the frequency tracking performance is not stable enough, and lots of symbols are required, especially when the decimal part of normalized frequency offset (which original frequency offset is divided by the subcarrier spacing) is around $\pm$0.5 to solve these problems, we propose an efficient frequency offset is divided by the subcarrier spacing) is around $\pm$0.5 by using the average of coarse synchronization over several symbol. Also, we suggest a new symbol synchronization structure which is easy to implement without performance degradation in multipath fading channel with only coarse symbol synchronization by making window offset to the range of guard interval in contrast to the conventional structure of dividing symbol synchronization in fine and coarse mode during synchronization. By extensive simulation, we have shown the superiority of the proposed schemes.
