For the purpose of providing high data rate real-time services, radio transmission technologies (RTT) for ship ad-hoc network (SANET) based on the Recommendation ITU-R 1842-1 are designed. Physical layer parameters of SANET are contrived to meet the requirements of the specification. In order to improve the link reliability for SANET, in this paper, we investigate the performance of the SANET with the multiple antennas, where receive combining (RC), transmit diversity (TD), and beamforming (BF) are employed, respectively. Based on the analysis of the packet error rate (PER) under the highly correlated maritime wireless channel model, we select the efficient multiple antenna schemes for SANET to improve the link reliability. In addition, the optimal MCS levels for the single-carrier (SC) SANET with the bandwidth of 25 kHz, and the multi-carrier (MC) SANET with the bandwidth of 50 kHz and 100 kHz are finalized.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of various diversity techniques which can contribute to provide efficient multimedia broadcasting services via hybrid/integrated satellite and terrestrial network. Space-time coding (STC) can achieve the diversity gain in a multi-path environment without additional bandwidth requirement. Recent study results reported that satellite systems can achieve high diversity gains by appropriate utilization of STC and/or forward error correction schemes. Based on these previous study results, we present various cooperative diversity techniques by combining STC and rate compatible turbo codes in order to realize the transmit diversity for the mobile satellite system. The satellite and several terrestrial repeaters operate in unison to send the encoded signals, so that receiver may realize diversity gain. The results demonstrated in this paper can be utilized in future system implementation.
In this paper, we have analyzed the MC-DS/CDMA system with input signal synchronized completely through adjustment of the gain in the PLL loop, by using the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) technique, which is said to one of the optimal diversity techniques under the multi-path fading environment, assuming that phase error is defined to the phase difference between the received signal from the multi-path and the reference signal in the PLL of the receiver. Also, assuming that the regarded radio channel model for the mobile communication is subject to the Nakagami-m fading channel, we have developed the expressions and performed the simulation under the consideration of various factor, in the MC/DS-CDMA system with the hybrid SC.MRC-(2/3) diversity method, such as the Nakagami fading index(m), $the\;number\;of\;paths\;(L_p),$ the number of hybrid SC.MRC-(2/3) $diversity\;branches\;(L,\;L_c),$ the number of users (K), the number of subcarriers (U), and the gain in the PLL loop. As a result of the simulation, it has been confirmed that the performance improvement of the system can be achieved by adjusting properly the PLL loop in order for the MC/DS-CDMA system with the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) diversity method to receive a fully synchronized signal. And the value of the gain in the PLL loop should exceed 7dB in order for the system to receive the signal with prefect synchronization, even though there might be a slight difference according to the values of the fading index and the spread processing gain of the subcarrier.

The paper considers a spectrum sharing cognitive radio (CR) network coexisting with a primary network under the average interference power constraint. In particular, the secondary user (SU) is assumed to carry delay-sensitive services and thus shall satisfy a given delay quality-of-service (QoS) constraint. The secondary receiver is also assumed to be equipped with multiple antennas to perform maximal ratio combining (MRC) to enhance SU performance. We investigate the effective capacity of the SU with MRC diversity under aforementioned constraints in Nakagami fading environments. Particularly, we derive the optimal power allocation to achieve the maximum effective capacity of the SU, and further derive the effective capacity in closed-form. In addition, we further obtain the closed-form expressions for the effective capacities under three widely used power and rate adaptive transmission schemes, namely, optimal simultaneous power and rate adaptation (opra), truncated channel inversion with fixed rate (tifr) and channel inversion with fixed rate without truncation (cifr). Numerical results supported by simulations are presented to consolidate our studies. The impacts on the effective capacity of various system parameters such as the number of antennas, the average interference power constraint and the delay QoS constraint are investigated in detail. It is shown that MRC diversity can significantly improve the effective capacity of the SU especially for cifr transmission scheme.

The satellite channel with a line-of-sight signal component is modeled by a shadowed Rician fading channel. We adopt a direct-sequence / code division multiple access (DS / CDMA), which has the advantage to suppress the multipath effect and increase the user capacity. The performance which is evaluated by bit error probability is subjected to the influence of branch number, multi-user number, and spreading code-length. As the result of the analysis, performance advance is achieved with multi-user number decreasing, number of brnaches increasing, and spreading code-length increasing as chip duration is constant. To use both of diversity combining scheme and channel coding is more efficient for performance improvement than the case using diversity combining scheme only. The use of BCH coding and convolutional coding shows better consequence than Hamming coding. Totally, the performance degradation for heavy shadowing is much larger than that for light and average shadowing as heavy shadowing decreases LOS signal.

The average bit error rate (HER) performance of a Gray coded arbitrary rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation (AR-QAM) signal with maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity in an arbitrarily correlated Nakagami-m fading channel is derived and analyzed. The derived two types of general solutions are a simple closed-form and an integral form, depending on the types of the values (integer and non-integer) of the fading parameter. Using the derived equations in this paper, we analyzed the HER performances numerically based on the practical base station antenna configuration. The results show that MRC reception is a very effective scheme so far even though the combined signals are not independent each other because of the correlation values. The antenna height and separation of the MRC system relate to the correlation coefficient value between antennas, and go a long way with the diversity advantage. In particular, it is needed to be determined the antenna height that is carefully do for the diversity advantage because the correlation coefficient and the antenna height gain are contrary to each other from the aspect of the system performance. The expressions presented here can offer a convenient way to evaluate the exact HER performance of an arbitrary rectangular QAM signal with MRC diversity reception for various cases of practical interest on a correlated Nakagami fading channel.

In this paper, we analyze the block error performance of the CDMA system, whose information data are spread spectrum with PN sequences, and the chip signals are modulated with BPSK signal, combining MRC(Maximum Ratio Combine) diversity techniques with repetition transmission, FEC(Forward Error Correction) code in mobile communication channel which is characterized by Nakagami fading. As a results of study, the coding techniques provide more efficient improvement than a diversity techniques, but coding techniques are required the adding bandwidth as many coding rate. Also, when the system is combined MRC diversity techniques with coding techniques, the amount of improvement is dramatically increased.
Self-encoded spread spectrum (SESS) is a novel modulation technique that acquires its spreading code from a random information source, rather than using the traditional pseudo-random noise (PN) codes. In this paper, we present our study of the SESS system performance under pulsed-noise jamming and show that iterative detection can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. The jamming performance of the SESS with correlation detection is verified to be similar to that of the conventional direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) system. On the other hand, the time diversity detection of the SESS can completely mitigate the effect of jamming by exploiting the inherent temporal diversity of the SESS system. Furthermore, iterative detection with multiple iterations can not only eliminate the jamming completely but also achieve a gain of approximately 1 dB at $10^{-3}$ BER as compared with the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) system under additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) by effectively combining the correlation and time diversity detections.

In this paper, we propose a class of spectrum sensing schemes for cognitive radio with receive diversity. By considering the generalized likelihood ratio test detector in each branch and exploiting non-linear diversity combining strategy, the proposed scheme exhibits reasonable performance for spectrum sensing even in the environment of heavier-tailed noise. From the results of analysis and computer simulations, it is observed that the proposed scheme provides significant performance gain and performance stability over the conventional schemes, especially in impulsive noise environment.

In this paper, we present a MIMO-OFDM broadband power line communication (BPLC) for Smart Grid and its associated applications and analyze its performance over the 3-phase 4-wire power line channels. For practical BPLC system simulation, we adopt the statistical power line fading channel model instead of the existing deterministic fading channel models (Zimmermann model, MTL model, and so on). In this paper, we implement $2{\times}2$ and $3{\times}3$ MIMO schemes using 3-phase 4-wire power lines. We investigate the capacity loss and BER performance of the proposed MIMO system by considering the effect of cross-talk between antenna paths. We choose space-frequency coding in order to reduce frequency interference between subcarriers and employ maximum ratio combining (MRC) that achieves both multiple antenna path diversity gain and multiple fading path diversity gain. We evaluate the proposed system performance through computer simulation in terms of the impulse noise index and the capacity loss ratio and compare the different signal combining schemes including MRC, equal gain combing (EGC), and selection combining (SC).
