Mexico's Contemporary Popular Geopolitics about the Silk Road

  • This article attempts to explain current social perceptions in Mexico about the Silk Road. Based on a critical geopolitics approach, the author analyzes how the idea of the Silk Road is socially constructed in Mexican popular geopolitics, focusing on studying digital mass media between 2013 and 2020. The main research questions are: how is the Silk Road notion constructed in Mexican popular geopolitics and what are the geopolitical implications for Mexico? The article discovers that in Mexico, the idea of the "Silk Road" is profoundly close to the idea of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) given China's geostrategic discourse that constructs the BRI as a "New Silk Road". The article also argues that Mexico's social-political agency to deal with China may be hindered by divergent social perceptions in favor and against the "Silk Road".

Cryptocotyle lata (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) Adult from a Korean Raccoon Dog, Nyctereutes procyonoides koreensis

  • Total 513 heterophyid flukes were collected from a carcass of wild Korean raccoon dog, Nyctereutes procyonoides koreensis, in Korea. With morphological and molecular characteristics, the flukes were identified to Cryptocotyle lata. The adult C. lata were minute, transparent, pentagonal, 522 ㎛ long by 425 ㎛ wide. Ceca extended into post-testicular region. Ventrogenital sac elliptical, 79 ㎛ by 87 ㎛ with genital pore and ventral sucker. Two testes semielliptical and slightly lobed, located in the posterior region, right testis 173 ㎛ by 155 ㎛, left testis 130 ㎛ by 134 ㎛. In a phylogenetic tree, the fluke specimen of this study was grouped with C. lata divergent from Cryptocotyle lingua. We report here N. procyonoides koreensis first as a natural definitive host of C. lata.

The Impact of ESG Performance on Corporate Value of Chinese Companies

  • This study examined the influence of ESG performance on the firm value of Chinese equipment manufacturing companies over the period from 2011 to 2020. The analysis indicated that while ESG performance exerted a negative influence on firm value, this impact was not statistically significant. These findings substantiate the Institutional Difference Hypothesis (IDH), which posits that country-specfic institutional variations sifnificantly shape the strategic decision-making of organizations. When disaggregating the three components of ESG, variations in the results were observed both for overall ESG performance and for each individual dimension. Of the three dimension elements, the environmental (E) and governance (G) facets had a negative bearing, whereas the social (S) facet had a positive influence. Notably, only the governance dimension (G) demonstrated a statistically significant influence. These outcomes affirm the institutional difference hypothesis, illustrating divergent results across distint ESG dimensions.

  • There are three objectives of this paper. First, we present an elegant and simple generalization of Abel's theorem (i .e. tile Abel summability (on the unit disk of the euclidean plane) is regular). Second, we consider the definition of Abel summability through lim (equation omitted) which immediately has clear connexctions with CeSARO summability and Cesaro sums (equation omitted). This approach examplifies some simple aspects of so-called Tauberian theorems of divergent series. Third, we present the applications of the previous results to find the limits of transition probabilities of homogeneous Marker chain. Finally, we explain why the original Abel's theorem which looks obvious is difficult to be proved, and can not be proved analytically.

Ability and Creativity : Their Role in Science and Technology

  • In addition to exceptional abilities and domain-specific aptitudes, frequently creativity potentials are used to explain high achievements in science and technology. In the Guilford tradition, research focuses increasingly on convergent versus divergent thinking, that is, a suspected dichotomy between intelligence and creativity. Despite important insights from this about relationship of ability and creativity, a number of important questions remain unanswered. These relate not only to conceptualization and measurement problems regarding the hypothetical constructs "scientific ability" and "creativity", but also their diagnosis and nurturance in childhood and adolescence. It would appear that, in view of current research paradigms, the role of ability and creativity needs to be redefinded in order to more reliably predict and explain excellent achievements in science and technology. Advances are mostly expected from synthetic approaches. Thus, I will be presenting new theoretical models and empirical research results. Finally, consequences for the prediction and promotion of mathematical-scientific and technical talents will be discussed including the consideration of sex-related problems.

The First Record of the Genus Hercostomoides (Diptera, Dolichopodidae) from Korea

  • A genus Hercostomoides Meuffels and Grootaert, 1997 is a small group of long-legged fly with only two recorded speices, H. indonesianus(Hollis, 1964) and H. bhartii Grichanov, 2017 in the world. They are mainly distributed in the eastern Oriental region and this is the first record of H. indonesianus distributed in Korea. This genus of the subfamily Sympycninae has the following characteristics: wing veins, R2+3 and M1+2, distinctly divergent at distal end in both sexes; propleuron with strong black seta and a few short pale setulae above fore coxa; hind femur without anterior preapical seta. Description and figures about firstly recorded species are provided.

Control of cavitation in Venturi using hemispherical bump (반구형 융기부를 이용한 벤투리에서의 캐비테이션 제어)

  • In this study, we investigated how the performance of a Venturi changes when a hemispherical bump is applied to the divergent part of the Venturi tube and what causes the performance difference. The Venturi-tunnel experiment was conducted in the Reynolds number range of 0.2 × 105 - 1.2 × 105 and cavitation number range of 0.9 - 10. The bump was found to reduce the pressure loss coefficient and increase the discharge coefficient by shortening the cavitation length. The decrease in the cavitation length by the bump was explained by the strengthening of the re-entrant jet. The wake generated from the hemispherical bump seems to increase the adverse pressure gradient on the Venturi surface, thereby strengthening the re-entrant jet.

How do learners discover the topic in team project-based learning?: Analysis of Learners' Creative Activity in the process of selecting the topic

  • Team project learning is a type of Project-Based Learning, which is an effective learning method for developing collaborative competency and interpersonal communication skills, as well as for developing cognitive competency such as critical thinking, creative thinking, and analytical skills. This research, conducted to analyze learning activities, focuses on students' creative thinking and activities in TPBL(Team Project-Based Learning). A qualitative approach including a reflective journal based on the 6 stages of TPBL, was adopted for this purpose. In this study, 69 reflective journals on the three stages (developing a theme, researching, theme-making) of 23 undergraduate students were categorized on the basis of three criteria: divergent thinking factors, convergent thinking factors and affective factors. The results show that the participants' journals demonstrated twenty-eight activities from nine cognitive factors and nine activities from three affective factors were derived from reflect journal. This finding indicates that more appropriate instructional strategies are needed for students to enhance their creative thinking skills and activities

The Validity of Teacher Nominations for the Selection of Scientifically Gifted Students (과학영재 선발을 위한 교사 추천의 타당성 분석)

  • As the validity issue of teacher nominations for the identification of gifted students has been raised recently, this study purports to test the validity of teacher nominations for selecting scientifically gifted students. As the criterion variables, domain specific traits such as science creative problem solving skills and science attitudes and domain general characteristics such as divergent thinking skills, creative attitudes, intrinsic motivation, and leadership were analyzed. Scientifically gifted students, potentially gifted students who had never been enrolled in gifted programs but were nominated as the scientifically gifted by teachers, and general class students participated in the study. The results of ANOVA showed that there were significant differences in all variables but originality factors of the TTCT and science creative problem solving skill test between gifted/nominated students and general class students; gifted/nominated students were significantly superior in these variables to general class students. The discriminant functions analysis yielded a discriminant function that significantly discriminated between gifted/nominated and general class students. Variables loaded on the discriminant function were science creative problem solving skills except for the originality subfactor, and science efficacy. These results imply that while teachers are likely to consider adaptation-oriented academic excellency related to logical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and science performance when nominating students, they may ignore the innovation-oriented property which is indicated as the fluency and originality factors of TTCT. Also, the criteria of teacher nominations are presumed to be congruent with the selection criteria of the gifted education program which pursued academic excellency as the educational goal. This suggests that with such criteria, high performing students in the science area can be sufficiently identified by teachers with no further identification procedures or/and tests.

A Review of the Cognitive Neuroscience of Creativity (창의성에 대한 인지신경과학 연구 개관)

  • Creativity refers to the ability to generate novel and useful ideas. Understanding the mechanism of creativity and its enhancement is important in order to solve major problems of the modern society and to improve the wellness of mankind. Creativity is a highly heterogeneous and complex ability which should not be conceptualized as a single entity. Thus, the current literature on creativity is based on a component process approach to creativity. The present study introduces cognitive neuroscience research studying the mechanism of divergent thinking, insight, relational thinking and artistic creativity which are the major components of creativity. Based on an expansive review, the early hypothesis of hemispheric asymmetry emphasizing the importance of the right as opposed to the left hemisphere is not supported by scientific evidence. In addition, there is no consensus or consistency on which specific brain region is related to a certain component of creativity. In fact, there is a mixture of studies reporting involvement of various brain regions across all four lobes of the brain. This inconsistency in the literature most likely reflects heterogeneity of the component processes of creativity and sensitivity of the neural response to differences across tasks and cognitive strategy. The present study introduces examples of representative studies reporting seminal findings on the neural basis and the enhancement of creativity based on innovative methodology. In addition, we discuss limitations of the current cognitive neuroscience approach to creativity and present directions for future research.
